Marco,

Baker Mayfield said pretty much the same thing as Darnold. No question about both their respective passions for football. But we may be able to draft a QB in 2019 who will have less of a wait to start, than if the Giants pull the lever on a QB this year. With that said, the best way for the Giants to go is to hope that a team from 5-7 jumps on a possible trade down to #2. The minimum package should consist of 1st Rd. pick + 2nd Rd pick in 2018 and 1st & 3rd in 2019. If the Giants can acquire that or better, they should do it with the target being OG Quenton Nelson. He’s as safe a pick as there is and will man the OLG spot for at least a decade. Moreover, it gives the Giants a mauler who will be one of those “Hog Mollies” that Getty craves, and we will finally have a player on the O-Line that is a force (which we desperately need!).

In addition, maybe the Giants can move up a few more spots (within the top 9); acquire some more top draft choices for 2018 & 2019 and still bag Nelson.

TY for the comment.
I like the size of Darnold, I worry about the durability of Rosen & Mayfield. Regardless trading down is definitely on the table.

Marco,

Good point. But need I make the Big Ben vs, Eli comparison? Who has been more durable and who is the “thicker” QB?

Darnold is definitely in the mix and would likely flourish under Eli’s tutelage. However, do any of the top tier QB’s in the draft rate a #2 pick this year? I’m not so sure. We’ll find out more during the combine and at QB’s “Pro Days”. But I would bet that teams are going to make offers to both the Browns and the Giants to move up on draft day. Hopefully, Getty gets a good deal (maybe two) to trade down, and pulls the trigger while Nelson still remains available (at #11 – although it’s difficult seeing the Bucs pass Nelson up).
