The biggest story which we covered last week has been surrounding OBJ. There have been more and more rumors coming out about the Patriots ‘actively’ trying to acquire Odell. You can check out my opinion on Odell Beckham trade rumors.

Landon Collins

Another attention grabber out this week is surrounding safety Landon Collins. Collins is set to become a free agent March 5th if the Giants don’t come to a long term deal or use the franchise tag on him. Reports are saying the franchise tag on a safety this season would be in the ballpark of 12 Million or so. Odds are the Giants will reach a long term deal with Collins who has cemented himself as a leader in the secondary.

Odds are the Giants will reach a long term deal with Collins who has cemented himself as a leader in the secondary.

Olivier Vernon

Rumors have been swirling about the possibility of releasing OV to free up cap space. If that was the case the Giants would save 11 Million of the 19.5 Million he’s owed this year, leaving 8.5 Million as dead cap space.

PFF released the grades on the Giants defense and interestingly enough, OV was the highest rated player despite missing a significant part of the first half of the season.

In regards to OV I think the best bet for the Giants would be to keep him and if anything request a pay cut. He has already stated that he would like to come back for the final year of his contract which makes it seem likely that he would entertain the idea of taking the cut to benefit the team as a whole. I also don’t see the sense in creating another hole in positions that we don’t have much depth at. (DE/OLB)

Coaching updates

First year DB Coach Lou Anarumo will be interviewing for the defensive coordinator for the Bengals and is considered to be a prime candidate for the position. Anarumo has a history with Bengals HC Zac Taylor; that history is the factor that is expected to land him the job.

The post Midweek Giants’ News For February 20, 2019 first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">10796</post-id>

Another Round Of Odell Beckham Trade Rumors

Justin Alequin

New York Giants Rumors

Headline

Josh Rosen

Kyler Murray

Odell Beckham Jr

So we’re back to tackling more rumors. But Odell being traded? Our star wide receiver is up for grabs? His real favorite sport? I think not.

If you recall, rumors were floating around all season about Odell being traded. There were reports that the 49ers, Rams, and other teams were ‘in talks’ to get him. Look how well those rumors panned out.

Think about this as well; David Gettleman, after signing Odell to his monster 5 year 95 million dollar deal said, “We didn’t sign him to trade him”. That doesn’t sound like talk from a GM that wants to trade.

Now look at it from a more practical view. If we end up keeping Eli as our starter what would happen if we got rid of his favorite target? Sure we’ve got other great talent that can catch, but would we be helping ourselves in the long run? The simple answer is no.

And lastly… golf… yes. We heard rumors about Odell being a member in many golf courts and practicing each Saturday, even thinking about getting into competitions! Well, we think that is not a bad idea, he could even make commercials and get a lot a money, just thing about how much does a new golf drivers cost? Right? We are just gonna sit back and relax. Let’s see where this goes.

Josh Rosen Trade Rumors

Let’s switch gears a little bit here and tackle the Josh Rosen rumors. This one is a little more interesting to me. So the Cardinal’s (who hold the first pick) new head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, had been on record before stating that he “would take him (Murray) with the first pick of the draft”.

Think about that for a second. Why would a team need two first round talent quarterbacks? They wouldn’t; Josh Rosen could be available for a trade.

Logically a huge question is what would it cost the Giants to get him. I’m no expert on draft values so I’ll share what 24/7 Sports commented as a possible scenario for a trade.

“Some have speculated the Giants would have to trade the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft to acquire Rosen, but we don’t buy it. More likely, the Giants would send a package of draft picks to acquire Rosen that would include the No. 38 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft (the Giants’ second-round pick), a late-round 2019 draft pick, and a conditional 2020 draft pick.”

That seems like a doable scenario to me. Would the Giants actually benefit though? I think Rosen could develop well given the opportunity to sit behind a similar veteran quarterback in Eli Manning.

Would you like to see any of these scenarios play out? In our previous piece on Kyler Murray, this was one of the concerns that we raised. Making this twitter post is for sure a step in the right direction, but does it address every concern surrounding him?

The biggest question currently surrounding him now is is he big enough to play in the NFL? Maybe, maybe not. At the moment it doesn’t seem like the Giants do.

As reported on Bleacher Report, sources within the Giants are saying that Murray is “probably a little to small.” Whether or not these reports are true or not are yet to be determined.

Let’s review his size and how he stacks up against other quarterbacks.

Oklahoma has him officially listed at 5’10, 195 pounds. When you look around the league today, do any other quarterbacks fit that same build? Russell Wilson fits in right in there in that “undersized” quarterback category coming in at 5’11 205. Murray has even compared his play style to that of Wilson.

In my opinion, the Giants drafting him is going to come down to the interview. Is he gonna be able to sell himself to the front office? Another influencing factor is going to be his performance at the combine.

“Kyler Murray Too Short For The Giants” was written by Guest blogger Justin Alequin. You can find his other thoughts on whiskeybravobros.com Please Share this post & leave some feedback in the comment field below, I would love to know what you think.

The post Kyler Murray Too Short For The Giants first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">10739</post-id>

Kyler Murray gives awkward interview with Dan Patrick

Justin Alequin

New York Giants News

Dave Gettleman

Headline

Kyler Murray

So Kyler Murray sat down with Dan Patrick for an interview that…

The post Kyler Murray gives awkward interview with Dan Patrick first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

So Kyler Murray sat down with Dan Patrick for an interview that went something like this.

To say that it was bad is an understatement. I don’t think he answered a single question directly throughout the entire clip. With that said, I get it. That whole expression playing the cards close to the chest, it makes sense.

With that said, BE PREPARED! Kyler admitted during the interview that he knew it was going to be tough. If you know something is going to be tough doesn’t that mean you should have a game plan?

The kid obviously has a bright future ahead of him. He’s already been signed by the Oakland A’s as a center fielder. For sure he’s a great athlete, but he probably skipped out on his public speaking class and maybe his interpersonal communications class.

It’s hard for me to know how to feel based on this interview. Is he trying to play his cards right or is he just being coy? If he’s doing it on purpose, I’m not a fan. A quarterback is supposed to be a leader, and a leader says things with purpose and confidence. A leader inspires and gives direction. Dancing around questions and tiptoeing on issues is not a quality of a leader.

With that said, I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt. He’s 21 years old and the spotlight has got to be extremely daunting. He’s young and honestly probably doesn’t have his mind completely made up on what exactly he wants to do; which is fine. He’s got nothing but time on his side?

What did you think of his interview? Do you think he’s actually going to have a pro day? If he does end up declaring for the draft, where do you think he’ll end up? I think the stats and records can do the talking.

Saquon Barkley #26 RB
261 Rushes
1307 Rushing Yards
91 Receptions
721 Receiving Yards
Total: 2028 Yards from Scrimmage

With these incredible stats Saquon also broke the record for most receptions by a rookie (91) and joined an elite club of rookies by having over 2,000 yards in a rookie season.

What’s next for this kid? Only time will tell. For the moment, let’s just bask in his talent.

Next Season Talk

So to jump back to a hot topic, let’s play with one of the hottest rumors flying around in Giants world. Let’s take the view that Eli Manning is coming back as the starter for next year. In our current draft spot a quarterback might be available, they might not.

In the scenario that there isn’t a quarterback available, do we beef up the offensive line or do we play the other side of the ball and perhaps grab a pass rusher? In this scenario I would like to see a right tackle taken.

Often times when Eli is sacked fans immediately turn to the offensive line and begin to criticize. For the most part I’ll agree. I think one of the best decisions made over the previous off season, which really was a no brainer, was letting Ereck Flowers walk.

Is Chad Wheeler the solution. Hell no. So back to that scenario. Do we take the best player available or do we possibly reach a bit and plug a dooming hole we have on the offensive line.

If we’re putting all of our chips on Eli and we want to have a chance, I say we have to. It’s not the smartest or best decision by any means, but it’s very possible.

“Saquon Barkley, Has Officially Been Named NFL Rookie Of The Year.” was written by Guest blogger Justin Alequin. You can find his other thoughts on whiskeybravobros.com Please Share this post & leave some feedback in the comment field below, I would love to know what you think.

The post Saquon Barkley, Has Officially Been Named Pepsi Rookie Of The Year first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">10595</post-id>

Giants Are Keeping Eli Manning, As The Rumor Mill Continues To Spin.

Justin Alequin

New York Giants News

Dave Gettleman

Dwayne Haskins

Eli Manning

Headline

Landon Collins

Nate Solder

Odell Beckham Jr

We’re keeping Eli? It seems so. Reports are out claiming that Gettleman’s review of Eli Manning’s 2018 performance indicate that the Giants are going to keep him going into the final year of his contract. What does this mean? This points to the Giants likely drafting a quarterback in the first round. Currently we’re sitting at the 6th overall pick in the first round.

In connection with this rumor is another rumor that the Giants have contacted the Arizona Cardinals in order to trade up in order to get Dwayne Haskins (Who the Giants are “in love with”). Unfortunately, there is very little sustenance to either of these rumors. If this is indeed fact, what would that mean for us? Let’s consider a few possible options in this draft scenario. 1. We forfeit our 1st round pick next season 2. We give up a key player

Let’s consider that first scenario. This upcoming draft class has already been called “quarterback lean”. Many of the scouting pros have already said that none of the quarterbacks that have declared for the draft thus far are day one starters. Many of those same scouts and analysts are predicting next year to be a much stronger draft class. Do we risk a pick on potential talent and forfeit an opportunity next year?

Now let’s look at that second scenario; giving up a key player, or first round talent. The two names that immediately pop into my head are Landon Collins and Odell Beckham Jr. Both are key players on each side of the ball and have established themselves as stars on the Giants. Again, can we afford to risk such talent for potential?

In my opinion, we have time. Eli is by no means what he was but he did get in stride near the end of the season. I believe we need to see what’s available at the 6th pick. If a 1st round caliber quarterback is available, then take him. If not, we have other holes throughout the team that need to be plugged. Our offensive line needs to be fixed up. We were able to get Nate Solder in free agency but it doesn’t seem as though it was the fix that we absolutely needed. Eli manning was still sacked 47 times, 6th most in the NFL this season. Our pass rush is also an area that we need to further develop.

What do you think about these rumors? What would you like to see happen? We had major things happen this year both during the regular season and the pre-season. We had some exciting additions and unfortunately some “tragic” loses. Our season has been over for the last few weeks, but over the past weekend we got to have some fun. Four of our players (Saquon Barkley, Aldrich Rosas, Olivier Vernon, and Michael Thomas) made the cut and were invited to the Pro Bowl. Let’s breakdown their regular season performances.

Saquon Barkley (RB)
1307 Rushing Yards
11 Rushing TDs
721 Receiving Yards
4 Receiving TDs

Aldrick Rosas (K)
32/33 FGM

Olivier Vernon (DE/LB)
30 Tackles
7 Sacks
1 Forced Fumble

Michael Thomas (DB)
59 Tackles
1 Sack
1 Forced Fumble
2 Interceptions

Per usual, the game was entertaining but overall lacked luster (we know no one is trying to get hurt). We got to see some fun plays by Barkley on defense and the subsequent laterals that ensued.

With the offseason quickly approaching, many Giants fans have a slew of questions racing through their heads:

Do we keep Eli?

Do we draft a quarterback in the first round as an immediate starter or possibly to sit behind Eli?

Do we invest in an offensive line and give Eli another year?

At this point only time will tell. With Dave Gettlemen being ever difficult to read, a head coach who claims he wants the team to come back “as is”, and owners who aren’t very outspoken we will have to be patient and see what information comes out of the offseason ahead of the draft.

The talking heads in the media don’t quite know what’s going to happen with this upcoming draft either. We have experts claiming that this is a weak Quarterback draft class while others now claim it’s strong with Dwayne Haskins and Kyle Murray who recently declared. With the 6thoverall pick comes some concerns as well. Will there be a quarterback available at that spot or will we have to trade up and forfeit some draft capitol? These are questions that you can be sure are going through the minds of the Giants’ front office.

In the meantime, we’ve got one game remaining in this 2019 season. The LA Rams vs. the NE Patriots. What will be the outcome? Who do you want to win? Let us know in the comments below. Also, what do you want the future of the Giants to be? Who do you want under center next year?

“Entertaining But Lackluster Pro Bowl“ was written by Guest blogger Justin Alequin Please Share this post & leave some feedback in the comment field below, I would love to know what you think.

The post Entertaining But Lackluster Pro Bowl first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">10560</post-id>
