Rysen John Player Profile

If you have been paying attention to the NFL recently, it is obvious that the league has started to shift their search for the future to all over the globe. With games now being played in Europe and Mexico, it is no wonder that teams have really shifted a focus to finding future stars from other countries as well. Enter Rysen John, a wide reciver from British Columbia in Canada.

Rysen John Pros:

John has a lot of great things going for him. During his collegiate career at Simon Fraser University, John racked up some great numbers as their leading wide receiver. In 2019, John had 53 receptions for 861 yards and 10 touchdowns. Throughout that span he was able to average 86.1 yards a game. These achievements allowed him to earn the title of team MVP and Simon Fraser Offensive Player of The Year. His successful year of college football started to warrant the attention of NFL teams, as a rumored 15 NFL teams had shown interest in John.

No surprise there when you look at his measurables. John is 6’7 and 237 pounds, the perfect size for a RedZone target. However, it was his 40-yard dash time that really put him on the map for most NFL teams. John was able to clock in at a 4.6 40-yard dash time with that kind of size. This is why most NFL teams see him as a tight end at the next level. When you compare his 40-yard dash time with some of the greats at this position in Travis Kelce (4.61) and Zack Ertz (4.76) it is easy to see why John can look so appealing to teams.

It was also rumored that divisional rivals, the Redskins, were very interested in John as well. However, 5 minutes after the Giants made the call on Mr. Irrelevant, Tae Crowder, they called John and made him a part of Big Blue. John will no doubt be a possible favorite for Daniel Jones, who has plenty of targets at both wide receiver and tight end. However, those skill players do not all have the size that John offers. When you watch the highlights from John’s career at Simon Fraser it is clear to see that he spent plenty of time catching touchdowns on jump balls. More importantly, his ability to run routes and find holes in the coverage schemes of different defenses flash from the film.

Rysen John cons:

The most obvious con with John is not necessarily something that you can hold against him. The biggest con for John is that he has played his entire career in the region of Canada. No disrespect to Canada, but that essentially means that his competition was not the greatest. The concern would be that he may look flashy on film, but he was not necessarily going up against the great defenses of the SEC or BIG 10 in Canada. More importantly, as a wide receiver it is safe to assume John has not had too much experience blocking.

Blocking will have to be a skill that is developed over the next several months. This, however, was not a big enough concern for the New York Giants who felt like they found a gem in John, and as previously noted made him one of the first Undrafted Free Agents they contacted. It is likely that had COVID-19 not canceled John’s official pro-day, he would have been taken by an NFL team that would have fallen in love with his skills in person. Instead, the Giants find themselves with a new 6’7 RedZone weapon who could be the perfect complimentary piece to Evan Engram in two tight end sets.

“Rysen John Player Profile” was written by Guest blogger Christopher Keene Please leave feedback in the comment field below, I would love to know what you think.

The post Rysen John Player Profile first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">12376</post-id>

Interview With Giants Rysen John

Marco Ceo

2020 NFL Draft

Bleed Big Blue Interviews

Freddie Kitchens

Headline

Rysen John

Interview With New York Giants Undrafted Free Agent Wide Receiver / Tight…

The post Interview With Giants Rysen John first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

Interview With New York Giants Undrafted Free Agent Wide Receiver / Tight End Rysen John

The team at Bleedbigblue had the opportunity to sit down over a zoom call with New York Giants undrafted free agent wide receiver Rysen John.

Undrafted free agents usually fly under the radar, this is especially the case with John who played his collegiate football in Canada.

Topics Covered

The draft process between the NFL and the CFL.

Position change as requested by Freddie Kitchen.

Pros and cons of the virtual drafting process and training.

The Love of Monopoly and Uno.

Please check out the interview let me know what you think. He’s got some versatility and some value and definitely has some special teams value.

Joe Judge on LB Tae Crowder:
This is a guy that’s only played a couple years at linebacker. We see a lot of upside with him. Both in his physical skills as well as his emerging defensive understanding. New York routes bring this big play running back home.

I am sure that many of us Giants fans have found ourselves in the following situation before. It is the end of one NFL season and the excitement of maybe making the post season has been long gone. Instead of focusing on the season that is now lost, we look ahead to the players that are coming out of college and into the draft. Javon Leake, a running back from Maryland, was one of those players in February of this year when he attended the NFL combine.

You probably have also heard analysts say the following, “this player may not have ran fast, but they have in game speed.” Well that is the thought process that may have caused Javon Leake to slip in the NFL draft and become an undrafted free agent. After being picked up by Big Blue, he will be part of a group (including Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis) that is competing for back up carries behind work horse Sauqon Barkley.

Pros:
Leake was part of a committee of running backs at Maryland. In the 2019 season he was able to gain 736 yards overall averaging 7.9 yards a carry and 17 touchdowns. When you watch his highlights, he is much more of an outside threat, and a receiving type of running back. Possibly, a nice weapon to add on third downs. More importantly, especially in the eyes of Joe Judge, Leake is an animal on special teams. Leake was named 2019 Big Ten Return Specialist of the year.

He accumulated 804 return yards and averaged 26.8 yards a return during the season. This also included two that were returned for a touchdown. To say that Leak has some big play abilities is an understatement. This is a portion of special teams that the New York Giants have not had for a long time. The last real return man they had was Dwayne Harris, and even he never really lived up to the contract.

This undrafted free agent could be a new addition that could fill a variety of needs. Other awards and accolades include 2019 First Team All-Big Ten Return Specialists, 2019 Honorable mention All-Big Ten running back, and 5th all-time Maryland history in kick return yards.

Cons:
Lets be honest, if he could not earn the starting role at Maryland that is a concern. If you are not good enough to be a work horse at the college level, the chances of making it in the NFL are even less. More importantly, Leake’s measurables are hardly impressive. His 40-yard dash time was a mere 4.65, and when you have line backers running faster it can be concerning. His vertical jump and broad jump numbers were average at best. As previously stated, there are players who do not test well, and do not look great at the combine, but just play and participate way better on the field. Leake even said in a recent interview, “Game film is a more accurate indicator of my speed”. That is exactly the type of player the Giants have hoped they found in Leake.

He will probably be competing for back up carries most of the season, but the difference he can make as a special teamer could be almost immediate. One thing the combine does not have a test for is hard work and heart and those are both things that previous coaches have said Leake has plenty of. More importantly, as part of a committee, he has plenty of tread left on the tires. As in, he still has plenty of football left to play, and has little to no injuries in the past.

“Javon Leake Player Profile” was written by Guest blogger Christopher Keene Please leave feedback in the comment field below, I would love to know what you think.

The post Javon Leake Player Profile first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">12311</post-id>

The New York Giants Select T.J. Brunson:
The next guy is T.J. Brunson. T.J. played at South Carolina as you guys know. He’s a little bit smaller. He plays the stack Will linebacker. He’s fast, he’s really athletic, he’s got good instincts. He’s just a little bit on the small side but he plays at about 230. We feel like he will be a really good fit and also has a lot of special teams value.

Joe Judge on LB T.J. Brunson:
He’s a guy you see making tackles sideline-to-sideline. He’s also a guy in South Carolina’s scheme and (Will) Mushchamp’s scheme down there isn’t the simplest. Guys have been challenged mentally being down there. They’ve been coached hard. It’s very similar to the guys we talked about playing at Georgia and Alabama. Very similar schemes, very similar cultures. He’s a guy that was out there making a lot of calls so you can see the communication element with him on the field as well as the productivity on the field.

Video & Podcast Link.
Catch out our latest podcast episode regarding TJ Brunson & the New York Giants Draft selection.

ABOUT THE PODCAST

Bleedbigblue Podcast:
We are a dedicated New York Giants Podcast with live radio analysis of all topics NYG. He’s a guy that’s going to have interior swing value. We’re going to cross train him guard and center. He’s 6’5 and change, he’s 230, he runs well. Cam and all the young men we took in the seventh round, we like they are players with good developmental qualities and tools. They all can run, every one of these guys can run. We’re excited about that.”

Joe Judge on LB Cam Brown:
“Physically, he’s got good length. He’s got a frame to fill out and play. He plays with good energy. He plays aggressive and downhill. He’s going to bring versatility on the edge as well as a little bit of stack backer value. He brings impact in the kicking game with us. Looking at the way our defense is pieced up and set, we need guys that are versatile, that we can move by game plan and by need. Cam definitely fits within that. Sean Spencer (defensive line coach) on the staff has spoken very highly of Cam since he got here. He’s also a guy that when you talk to other guys on Penn State and you hit them with who the leader on the defense is, without hesitation, they all said Cam Brown. That stuck out to us. He’s been an alpha dog in the locker room and that brings the attitude we really look for on the field.”

Video & Podcast Link.
Catch out our latest podcast episode regarding Cam Brown & the New York Giants Draft selection.

ABOUT THE PODCAST

Bleedbigblue Podcast:
We are a dedicated New York Giants Podcast with live radio analysis of all topics NYG.
