When asked whether Neal could shift to guard—a position he played as a freshman at Alabama—Schoen kept things vague.

“He’s going to do whatever he can to help the organization,” Schoen said. “He’s motivated, he’s had a good offseason, he’s working hard.”

Translation: The team still isn’t sure where Neal fits best.

Fifth-Year Option Appears Unlikely.

It’s becoming increasingly unlikely the Giants will pick up Neal’s fifth-year option. Locking him in for 2026 would mean a guaranteed $16.7 million, and that’s a hefty price for a player who has underperformed and struggled to stay healthy.

Schoen confirmed no decision has been made, but the signs aren’t promising. When a team brings in a free agent like Jermaine Eluemunor and pays him to take over your position, it’s never a great endorsement.

Neal’s Injuries Have Stalled His Growth.

Drafted No. 7 overall in 2022 after a standout college career at Alabama, Neal’s NFL run has been rocky. He’s missed 22 of 44 regular-season games due to injury, including 10 in 2023 alone. He had ankle surgery in early 2024 and started the year behind Eluemunor on the depth chart.

Neal did return to the starting lineup in November after Andrew Thomas went down, but he’ll need a strong, healthy season to reshape the narrative.

Time Running Out to Prove Himself.

Neal is entering a critical year. The Giants need answers, and fast. Whether he stays at tackle or moves inside, his performance in 2025 will likely determine whether he remains part of the long-term plan.

Right now, it feels like a long shot that the team commits $16.7 million to a player who hasn’t delivered consistent results.

️ Rep the Team, No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue. General manager Joe Schoen is tasked with finding a long-term solution under center, but how will he approach it?

While many expect the Giants to address the position in the 2025 NFL Draft, there’s speculation about a possible veteran addition. One name that has emerged in rumors is Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Would the Giants Give Up the No. 3 Pick?

Reports about Stafford’s availability are conflicting, but some suggest the Rams could demand New York’s No. 3 overall pick. That price tag appears too steep, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter quickly dismissed the idea that the Giants would part with such a valuable asset.

“Let me be very clear: That pick is not in the conversation if Matthew Stafford and the Rams can’t get a deal worked out — and if Matthew Stafford becomes available and all of a sudden the Giants surface as a contender,” Schefter told the New York Daily News.

“If all those things happen … there is no way in hell that the Giants are giving up the third overall pick for Matthew Stafford. Zero. Zero.”

What Would a Trade Look Like?

The Rams are looking to recoup as much draft capital as possible and would need to push for a trade before Stafford’s contract guarantees kick in mid-March.

Adding to the Stafford-to-Giants speculation, NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently weighed in, stating, “I’d be so fascinated to see what trade compensation would look like if the Giants traded for Stafford. If they could hold onto the 3rd pick, they could have some really fun options.”

From my perspective, the Giants should avoid giving up any high-value picks, such as a first- or second-rounder. I’d enter negotiations with a firm stance that a third-round pick in 2025 is the highest I’d be willing to offer. Anything more would be too much for a short-term solution at quarterback.

Stafford would likely be a bridge quarterback, similar to how the Giants brought in Kurt Warner before drafting Eli Manning in 2004. However, his reported desire for a new contract complicates matters further.

The real question is: Does Schoen believe Stafford is the right fit, or will the Giants stay patient and focus on the draft?

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. My ideas may seem out of the box, but please bare with me. If Reese follows this, we dominate (IMO). My goal is to fix the team in free agency and then draft best player available in the draft. Please note a PFF score of 50.0 is average. My goal is for the team is to be FASTER on field in 2017 and also to leave us in position to resign Odell in future and draft a QB this year, which in my opinion we won’t do if we don’t fix lines in FA.

1. Release Dwayne Harris

Replace him with free agent Coradelle Patterson(PFF rating of 67.2 for 2016). Why? Even though Harris dominates on kick coverage he is mediocre on the depth chart receiver wise. Adding a more explosive option that is younger and can add SPEED(4.39 forty yard dash) to what I feel is an average speed team would be very smart. He is 25 years old, and would fill the need for a bigger(6’2″ 220) wideout in our WR group. I also add FA Marquise Goodwin of Buffalo. He is track fast(4.29 forty) and can catch. Plays specials and as a 5th wideout he is a nice change of pace. Deadly potential on WR screens as well. Please Note: I love Terrell Pryor but I believe Browns overpay to keep him as they have 104 mil in cap room.(not a typo).

2. Allow Hankins to leave as a free agent.

Allow Jonathan Hankins to leave as a free agent. Cut Robert Thomas and replace them with Dontari Poe(PFF rating of 70.5 2016) formerly of Chiefs. 27 years old NT/DT. He is a superior athlete that can get sacks up the middle. He runs a 4.98 forty yard(see my theme here?) dash at 320lbs. He even threw a td pass this year, while getting successful snaps in the goalie ala refrigerator Perry.

3. Release Will Beatty.

Bobby Hart and sign free agent Larry Warford(PFF rating of 82.0 for 2016) to play RG. He is 26 and is the type of fundamentally sound run bully we need inside to rebuild this line to elite status. a stomach of PUGH/WESTBURG/WARFORD would make major alleys to RUN rock in. If Warford signs with Lion, I would add Luke Joekel instead. He played Tackle and Guard and is 25 from the Jags as a Free agent.

4. Release Larry Donnell, Will Johnson, Matt Lacosse.

Release Larry Donnell, Will Johnson, Matt Lacosse and sign Levine Toilolo(PFF rating of 67.6 for 2016) of the ATL falcons to play TE, he is an unrestricted free agent. He showed himself to be a top 12 blocker and even flashed promise as a catcher/red zone threat. The 6’8″ 265lbs Stanford grad is smart, strong and gonna be cheaper than name brand guys while coming from a super bowl appearance. He and Adams would be like twin towers in the redzone at 6’8″ and 6’6″ with Tye giving quality back up minutes…. As a back up plan I also LOVE me some Jack Doyle(PFF rating 76.0) of Indianapolis. 26 year old and blocks like an old school guy, just doesn’t have the overall upside of Levine.

5. Release Leon Hall, Coty Sensabaugh, restructure DRC.

Release Leon Hall, Coty Sensabaugh, restructure DRC to 3.3 mil(instead of 6.8) per plus 1.2 mill upfront(with incentives) which should drop his cap hit by about 2.3 mil and sign free agent Sterling Moore(PFF rating of 72.3), free agent from New Orleans. I don’t know if you remember but this little f&#ker but he gave Odell issues when they met. He is fast and agile and nasty. He can play on the island like he did versus Odell or slot and he tackles. had 44 of them this year with 13 break ups and 2 picks. I see him as depth this year and a starter next year when DRC is unrestricted.

6. Release Marshall Newhouse, and do not resign John Jerry, move Eric Flowers to RT.

Release Marshall Newhouse, and do not resign John Jerry, move Eric Flowers to RT and sign Riley Reiff(PFF rating of 67.5) to play LT. 28 years old free agent from Detroit, he is durable and playing better ever year of his career. He has played on both sides of the line.

7. Release Rashad Jennings, Shane Vareen, Orleans Darkwa, Bobby Rainey.

sign Latavius Murray(PFF rating 72.0), 26 year old free agent from Raiders. He is the every down guy that we need to run inside and outside. With healthy mix of Perkins and whoever we draft, I think this unit could be a strength again. I only cut Vareen because to me he and Perkins similar with regard to role moving forward.

8. Release Trevin Wade, Mykelle Thompson and Nat Behre.

Release Trevin Wade, Mykelle Thompson and Nat Behre and sign free agent Dre Kilpatrick(PFF rating 74.7) from the Bengals. fiesty and long with a rangy style(6’2″) we lack in secondary. He can swing out to FS too in certain packages. 27 years old, he could be a player here for a good long time. Played huge games on island at BAMA. Young and seasoned. 46 tackles 3 picks 10 deflections in 2016 plus he and Landon already brothers from that SEC championship team.

9. Release Kevin Sheppard, JT Thomas.

Release Kevin Sheppard, JT Thomas and sign free agent Linebacker Kevin Minter(PFF rating of 81.0 for 2016). He had 88 tackles 3.5 sacks for Arizona last year and is 26 years old. This LSU player is a homeboy of Odell too having played under Les Myles for the tigers together. He adds SPEED and versatility to a mediocre group. He, Robinson and Kennard would be a solid group. Add in BJ Goodson and whoever we add in draft and we now have guys to cover the ever changing role of the leagues top TEs.

10. Resign JPP. Pay Cruz 15% over the league minimum.

Resign JPP. Pay Cruz 15% over the league minimum with incentives.
If we were to pull this off we could add game changers in draft. When I did the math here(roughly), I found that this is very much possible of us, assuming we don’t pay JPP the way we paid Vernon. We need JPP to take a discount of sorts. If not, I let him walk, promote Romeo Okwara and draft a replacement before end of round three of 2017 Draft.

Please are your thoughts. The Franchise tag can be used once…

The post Who Got The Franchise Tag? first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

Who Got The Franchise Tag?

The Franchise tag can be used once per year by each team. The Franchise Tag takes the average of the top-5 contracts that year per position and uses that as a baseline. For instance, if the average salary of the top-5 quarterbacks this year is approximately 20 million, which it is, if a team elects to use the franchise tag on their quarterback, they have to pay the quarterback that amount. Each position varies how much it is worth for the franchise tag, of course, because the top-5 salaries per position varies. Also, there is a “non-exclusive” franchise tag which allows teams to negotiate with players that received the non-exclusive franchise tag, but if a team gives the franchise tagged player an offer and the original team declines to match that offer, the new team must give up two first-round picks to the original team. The transition tag is similar to the non-exclusive version of the franchise tag. With the transition tag, the player gets paid the average of the top-10 positions for his position. However, the player is allowed to sign a contract with another team after signing the transition tag. That being said, the original team then has a chance to match the offer the player has signed with a different team in which case the player is forced to sign with his original team. Now that you hopefully have a good understanding of what the franchise tag is, we’ll take a look at which teams “won” or “lost” the franchise tag.

Denver Broncos: LB Von Miller (Exclusive) $15.7M

The Broncos wisely elected to use the franchise tag on Von Miller. Miller made a case throughout the season, and especially in the playoffs, that he is the best linebacker in the NFL. Miller’s pass rushing abilities propel him to the elite status he has. This was an expected decision by the Broncos, however, that being said, it is the first time a team since 2007 has used the exclusive franchise tag on a player that is not a QB. Miller could have possibly made upwards of $20M, but he will only make $15M thanks to the franchise tag. WINNER: Broncos

Washington Redskins: QB Kirk Cousins (Non-Exclusive) $19.5M

Cousins will make the highest base salary for a NFL quarterback in 2016. Cousins definitely showed in 2015 that he can be a $20M quarterback, however, in years passed Cousins has showed he isn’t even worthy of being a starter. In my opinion, one season will not define Cousins as a player. The quarterback position has become such an exclusive position that the Redskins didn’t have much of a choice but to tag Cousins. Had Cousins been smarter, he would have realized that chances are last year will be as good as he will ever be, which is pretty damn good considering last years numbers, thus signing a long-term contract when you are coming off of an elite season would have been the better option. Although the Redskins may not be happy they were able to secure their franchise quarterback for years to come, they are ultimately winners in my book considering chances are Cousins won’t have as miraculous of a season in 2016 and thus they will not need to pay him what they would have had to pay him had they signed a long-term deal this year. WINNER: Redskins

Carolina Panthers: CB Josh Norman (Non-Exclusive) $13.9M

The situation for Josh Norman and the Panthers is very similar to the Redskins situation with Kirk Cousins. Norman had the best season he will likely ever have. He should have been smart enough to try and realize that and get a long-term big money deal signed. The Panthers play a zone on defense so in my opinion a zone corner just isn’t worthy of money like Norman wants and probably will get. Guys like Revis who can shut down a receiver is worth big time money but when you play a zone you are responsible for your area thus teams that don’t play a zone won’t value you as highly as teams that do play a zone. The Panthers won this deal since Norman will no way no how have the season he did in 2015 again. WINNER: Panthers

Chicago Bears: WR Alshon Jeffery (Non-Exclusive) $14.6M

Alston Jeffery moved himself into the top-10 list of wide receivers this year. I questioned whether or not he would become better or worse with the departure of Brandon Marshall, but he clearly showed he can serve as the 1 option for the Bears. I like the move on both sides, but $14.5M for a receiver is remarkable considering Julio Jones, the leagues top receiver, is making $14.3M. WINNER: Alshon Jeffery

New York Jets: DE Muhammed Wilkerson (Non-Exclusive) $15.7M

Muhammed Wilkerson has emerged as one of the leagues best defensive ends. It was not a surprise to see the Jets use the franchise tag on him, but it also would not be a surprise to see the Jets trade Wilkerson at some point this offseason. The Jets have Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams who are both younger and reliable options at defensive end. They should definitely trade away Wilkerson’s rich contract for either some picks or a star at a needed position. Overall, both the Jets and Wilkerson won this deal as he will be making nearly the same as what JJ Watt is making, and the Jets have the value to trade for another 1st round pick. WINNER: BOTH

Baltimore Ravens:K Justin Tucker (Non-Exclusive) $4.5M

Although this is a very rich contract for a kicker, Justin Tucker is a top-3 kicker right now and he is just 26 years old. This is a good move for the Ravens as Tucker was uncooperative in signing a long-term deal. The Ravens should be able to work something out with their “franchise kicker” at some point this season/offseason. WINNER: Ravens

Buffalo Bills: OT Cordy Glenn (Non-Exclusive) $13.7M

Solid move by the Bills. They cut Mario Williams in essence because of his negative work ethic as well as his talent, but also to clear up room for the franchise tag. Glenn is one of the top offensive tackles in the league making this a good move for the Bills. I don’t see much changing between now and next season in terms of the amount of a long-term contract for Glenn so there is no winner in this deal. WINNER: Both

Kansas City Chiefs: S Eric Berry (Non-Exclusive) $10.8M

Another great defensive move by the chiefs. Berry is in my opinion the leagues best safety (yes, over Kam Chancellor). Berry was fantastic in his “comeback” season earning himself the franchise tag. He deserves to be making the most money for a safety in the league so the Chiefs franchise tagging him allowing another year to work out a long-term deal was a great move. WINNER: Chiefs

Los Angeles Rams: CB Trumaine Johnson (Non-Exclusive) $13.9M

Great for Trumaine Johnson, not so much for the Rams. Johnson not worth more than $10M in my view. This was a desperation move by the Rams as their other cornerback, Janoris Jenkins, is set to hit the market. Johnson will enjoy his $13.9M and he should be able to work out a deal with the generous Rams one the course of the season. WINNER: Rams

Miami Dolphins: DE Oliver Vernon (Transition) $12.7M

The Dolphins placed the transition tag on Oliver Vernon. This was a bad move by the Dolphins in my opinion. Vernon is worth about $14M, and the franchise tag is $15.7M. Chances are Vernon will sign a contract with another team and whether the Dolphins match or not will be seen, but if they don’t match they receive nothing in compensation and lose the transition tag for 2016. Had they placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Vernon, they would have most likely secured Vernon for 2016 and if another team decided to sign him off of the non-exclusive franchise tag, which is extremely rare, the Dolphins would be owed two first rounders. So although Oliver Vernon for $12.7M is cheap, they likely will lose him to another team of have to match a higher contract. WINNER: Neither

As for the Giants, there are three positives from all of this. First off, the Redskins owing Kirk Cousins $20M is laughable. Cousins showed he has the ABILITY to be a very good QB, but he has also showed that he has the ABILITY to be a very bad QB. Hopefully for Giants fans, Kirk Cousins will go back to his old normal self and lose games for the Redskins. Next, the signing of Muhammed Wilkerson was a positive even though the Giants were a front-runner to sign Wilkerson. Had Wilkerson hit the market, he would have made more that $15.7M per year. If the Jets do plan to trade Wilkerson, the Giants are a likely spot considering they have a highly coveted 10th overall pick and a need for a defensive end. Expect to hear the Giants linked with trade talks for Wilkerson over the next few months. Lastly, Oliver Vernon receiving the transition tag was the best news of all. I expected the Dolphins to franchise tag Vernon which would have kept him a Dolphin, but using the transition tag still keeps the possibility of Vernon being a Giant alive. The Giants would love to sign the 25 year old to a long term deal and add some pass rush to the defensive line.

The post Who Got The Franchise Tag? first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">5584</post-id>

Giants Looking For A Jason Pierre-Paul Return

Marco Ceo

New York Giants Rumors

Off Season

Headline

JPP

Giants Looking For A Jason Pierre-Paul Return Reports out today have Jason…

The post Giants Looking For A Jason Pierre-Paul Return first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

Giants Looking For A Jason Pierre-Paul Return

Reports out today have Jason Pierre-Paul in contract talks with the Giants, as they do not want JPP to hit the open market.

It is not sure what the terms of this contract currently are, but it is believed that Pierre-Paul is looking for a long-term deal.

ESPN’s Dan Grazino believes that the Giants will offer him 2-3 yrs at $7-8M plus playing incentives.

Giants have been working to try to get Pierre-Paul signed before market opens. https://t.co/0ZwDWKSZYX

— Dan Graziano (@DanGrazianoESPN) February 27, 2016

@funkeymonkey_72 He wants longer term. If the Jets are unable to arrive to an agreement on a long term deal they still would have the option to place the franchise tag on Wilkerson.

The franchise tag would keep Wilkeson for one year at a guaranteed rate estimated at roughly $16 million for 2016.

Yesterday the Jets released Antonio Cromartie to free up cap space and hopefully retain Wilkerson.

The Jets gave cornerback Antonio Cromartie four years.
