]]>The New York Giants have one of the biggest question marks on the roster at wide receiver. There’s some intriguing talent in the room, but outside of a few veterans, it’s largely an unproven group.
That makes training camp one of the most interesting position battles to watch this summer. During a recent episode of the Bleed Big Blue Podcast, we broke down who we think makes the final 53-man roster. Since recording, a few things have changed, including the return of Odell Beckham Jr., which definitely changes the outlook.
When we recorded the podcast, Odell Beckham Jr. hadn’t signed with the Giants. Now that he’s back in blue, I think he earns one of the six wide receiver spots.
The Giants didn’t bring Beckham back just for the headlines. If he’s healthy, I expect him to make the final 53-man roster and give this young group another veteran presence.
His signing makes the competition even tougher for everyone else!
One storyline I’ll continue to watch is Malik Nabers’ recovery.
Personally, I don’t think he’ll be ready for Week 1. That’s just my opinion based on where things stand today.
The good news is the Giants don’t have to rush him back. This coaching staff can afford to be patient and make sure he’s fully healthy before putting him back on the field.
Jalin Hyatt enters one of the biggest training camps of his career.
I said on the podcast that unless he has an outstanding preseason, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants look to move him before roster cutdowns.
The talent has always been there, but we’re entering Year 4 and he still hasn’t carved out a consistent role. At some point, potential has to turn into production.
Another thing that’s changed since we recorded the show is Gunner Olszewski’s season-ending injury.
Before the injury, Gunner’s biggest value came on special teams as a return specialist. With him now out for the season, I think Braxton Berrios slides right into that role while also giving the Giants depth at wide receiver.
Special teams often determine the final roster spots, and Berrios checks that box.
John Harbaugh has made it clear that roster spots are going to be earned, not handed out.
I don’t think this is a deep wide receiver room. I think it’s an unproven one.
There’s talent here, but there are still plenty of questions. Can Malik Nabers get back to full strength? Can Malachi Fields contribute right away? Does Odell Beckham Jr. still have something left? Can Darnell Mooney bounce back? Those are all legitimate questions that won’t be answered until training camp and the preseason.
The good news is the Giants have competition at the position, and that’s something they haven’t always had. By the end of camp, we’ll know if this group exceeded expectations or if wide receiver is still a position that needs to be addressed moving forward.

]]>As more stories continue to surface about the Brian Daboll era, one theme keeps coming up: accountability.
During our latest Bleed Big Blue Podcast, we looked back at Daboll’s time with the New York Giants and discussed whether the culture became too relaxed. While some reports have described the environment as being more player-friendly, it’s fair to ask whether that approach ultimately hurt the football team.
When Brian Daboll first arrived in New York, he was credited with changing the atmosphere around the organization. After years of losing, players seemed to enjoy coming to work again, and the team responded with a surprising playoff appearance in 2022.
But as the losses piled up over the next two seasons, the conversation changed.
Reports emerged suggesting the Giants had developed more of a “country club” atmosphere, where veteran players practiced less and accountability wasn’t always consistent. Whether every story is true or not, the perception alone says a lot about how the final years of Daboll’s tenure are being viewed.
If you’re winning, a relaxed culture can be seen as trusting your veterans. When you’re losing, that same approach quickly becomes a problem.
One decision that continues to stand out is Daboll’s handling of the defense.
The Giants repeatedly let games slip away because of late-game defensive collapses. Yet despite those struggles, defensive coordinator Shane Bowen remained in place throughout the season.
Looking back, that’s difficult to understand.
When a coach’s job is on the line, every option should be on the table. A coaching change may not have completely turned the season around, but it could have sent a message that everyone inside the building was being held accountable.
Instead, the Giants stayed the course, and the results never improved.
The hiring of Shane Bowen always felt rushed.
Whether circumstances forced the Giants into that decision or not, the defense never developed an identity. Week after week, fans watched a bend-but-don’t-break philosophy that too often turned into long drives, missed opportunities, and blown leads.
Personally, I’ve never been a fan of passive defenses.
I’d much rather see a defense attack, blitz, create pressure, and force opposing quarterbacks into mistakes. Even if you occasionally give up a big play, I’d rather live with aggression than watch offenses slowly march down the field.
That’s one reason there’s excitement surrounding new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson.
Everything we’ve heard about Wilson points toward an aggressive mindset. His defenses are expected to pressure quarterbacks, challenge receivers, and dictate the action instead of reacting to it.
That style is much closer to what Giants fans enjoyed under Wink Martindale.
An attacking defense fits the identity that John Harbaugh has consistently built throughout his coaching career. Physical football, discipline, and accountability have become trademarks of his teams, and that appears to be exactly what the Giants are trying to establish.
One of the biggest differences between the previous coaching staff and the current one may simply be expectations.
The message now seems clear: everyone is expected to do their job, and nobody is bigger than the team.
That’s the type of culture successful organizations build over time.
It doesn’t guarantee wins, but it creates an environment where players understand exactly what’s expected of them every single day.
Looking back, it’s easy to see why many Giants fans believe the team needed a culture reset.
Brian Daboll deserves credit for helping pull the franchise out of one of its darkest stretches, but the final years of his tenure also exposed issues with accountability and consistency.
Now the Giants have an opportunity to turn the page.
With John Harbaugh leading the organization and Dinard Wilson bringing an aggressive defensive philosophy, the hope is that the “country club” perception is replaced by a tougher, more disciplined identity.
If that happens, Giants fans may finally see a team that plays with the physicality and accountability they’ve been waiting for.

]]>The New York Giants didn’t just hire a new head coach this offseason, they assembled one of the most experienced coaching staffs in the NFL.
Under John Harbaugh, New York has surrounded its players with former head coaches, accomplished coordinators, and longtime NFL veterans. On paper, it’s exactly what Giants fans have been hoping to see for years.
But it also raises an interesting question.
If the Giants are successful in 2026, could this coaching staff get picked apart?
It’s not often you find this many accomplished football minds working under the same roof.
The Giants have built an offensive staff featuring names like Matt Nagy, Greg Roman, Brian Callahan, and several assistants with coordinator or head coaching experience. Every coach brings a different perspective, making this one of the deepest staffs in the league.
That’s a credit to John Harbaugh.
Great coaches tend to attract great coaches, and Harbaugh has done exactly that.
The downside?
Success usually comes with opportunities elsewhere.
If New York’s offense takes a major step forward, it wouldn’t be surprising to see other NFL teams pursue members of this staff for coordinator or head coaching jobs.
That’s a good problem to have.
While Matt Nagy carries offensive coordinator experience, it’s hard not to look at Greg Roman as one of the biggest influences on this offense.
Roman has built physical, run-first offenses throughout his NFL career, and his fingerprints could be all over what the Giants want to become.
Rather than one coach calling all the shots, this feels more like a collaborative offensive brain trust.
If everyone can work together, the Giants could benefit from having multiple experienced voices in the room instead of relying on one play-caller.
Giants fans have seen experienced assistants before.
When Jason Garrett joined Joe Judge’s staff, many questioned whether bringing in a former head coach would create tension. In hindsight, that situation feels much different.
Joe Judge was a first-time head coach still finding his footing.
John Harbaugh, meanwhile, has won at every level and commands immediate respect inside an NFL building. His experience allows him to empower talented assistants without worrying about conflicting personalities.
That leadership could be one of the biggest reasons this staff works.
One of the biggest reasons there’s so much excitement surrounding this team is the unknown.
Every offseason, fans try to predict wins and losses based on the schedule, but none of that means much before training camp.
Injuries happen. Young players emerge. Teams that look great on paper disappoint, while others exceed expectations.
The Giants are one of the league’s biggest wild cards entering the 2026 season because nobody truly knows what this offense will look like under John Harbaugh and this revamped coaching staff.
Everything points toward a more physical offensive approach.
John Harbaugh and Greg Roman have consistently built offenses around establishing the run, controlling the clock, and wearing defenses down.
That’s one reason it wouldn’t be surprising if the Giants add another running back before the regular season.
Cam Skattebo is working his way back, but there are still questions about the depth behind him. Adding another veteran to the room would provide insurance while reinforcing the physical identity this coaching staff appears to be building.
There’s plenty of excitement surrounding the New York Giants heading into the 2026 season, but there are still more questions than answers.
Can this experienced coaching staff unlock the potential of the roster?
Will the offense quickly establish the physical identity John Harbaugh and Greg Roman are known for?
Those questions won’t be answered until the games begin, but one thing is clear: this Giants team is built differently than we’ve seen in recent years.
If Harbaugh’s vision comes together, New York could finally have the culture, coaching, and physical identity fans have been waiting for.
And if that happens, Giants fans may have to worry about other teams trying to hire away some of the very coaches who helped make it happen.

]]>The New York Giants 2026 schedule has sparked plenty of debate, and one prediction keeps coming up among fans: Could the Giants realistically head into their bye week with a 5-2 record?
At first glance, it might sound optimistic. But after taking a closer look at the schedule, there are several games that are far more winnable than many national analysts seem to believe.
The season opens at home against the Dallas Cowboys. Rivalry games are always difficult to predict, but playing in front of the home crowd gives New York a legitimate chance to start the year with a statement win.
Week 2 presents one of the toughest challenges of the early season, as the Giants travel to Los Angeles. On paper, it’s one of the more difficult games before the bye and could be the biggest obstacle to a fast start.
After that, however, the schedule begins to open up.
The Week 3 matchup against Tennessee is one the Giants should expect to win if they’re serious about competing for the NFC East.
Good teams take care of business against opponents they’re expected to beat, and this is exactly the type of game that could set the tone for the rest of the season.
The Arizona Cardinals are still searching for answers at quarterback, making this another favorable matchup for New York.
Until Arizona proves it can consistently compete offensively, it’s reasonable to view this as another opportunity for the Giants to build momentum.
Many people are high on Washington after last season, but we’re not completely sold.
Jayden Daniels is undoubtedly a talented quarterback, but durability remains a concern, and we’re not convinced Washington deserves all of the offseason hype just yet.
Divisional games are always difficult, but this is far from an automatic loss.
Following Washington, the Giants face New Orleans before taking on the Houston Texans.
New Orleans is another matchup where New York should feel confident heading into kickoff.
Houston is a more interesting discussion. Their defense has the talent to cause problems, but offensively they still have questions to answer after an inconsistent season.
Many analysts have already penciled this in as a loss for the Giants, but we’re not ready to go that far. It’s a difficult game, but it’s certainly one New York can win.
When you step back and evaluate the schedule objectively, a 5-2 record before the bye isn’t nearly as unrealistic as some make it out to be.
That doesn’t mean the Giants will be favored every week, and plenty can change once the season begins. Injuries, player development, and early-season momentum will all play a role.
Still, if New York can win the games they’re supposed to win and split some of the tougher matchups, a strong start is absolutely on the table.
Nobody is handing the Giants five wins before the season starts. They’ll have to earn every one of them.
But looking strictly at the schedule, there’s a legitimate path to entering the bye week at 5-2, with some even believing 6-1 isn’t completely out of the question if everything breaks their way.
As always, the goal remains the same: compete for the NFC East, win the division, and build momentum toward a playoff run.

Despite another offseason filled with speculation, Thibodeaux remains on the Giants roster. While there is no indication that a trade is imminent, rumors have continued to circulate, with several teams reportedly expressing interest in the former first-round pick.
The bigger question isn’t whether the Giants want to trade Thibodeaux. It’s whether another team is willing to offer enough compensation to make a deal worthwhile.
While Kayvon Thibodeaux’s name has surfaced in trade rumors throughout the offseason, the reality is that the Giants are unlikely to receive a first-round pick in return.
In today’s NFL, teams are hesitant to part with premium draft capital, especially for a player entering the final year of his contract and potentially looking for a significant extension. In fact, the Giants would probably be fortunate to receive a second-round pick. That may be one of the biggest reasons Thibodeaux is still on the roster today.
If another team was willing to offer a first-round selection, the deal likely would have happened already. Instead, the Giants appear content to let Thibodeaux play out his contract year and see if he can take the next step in his development.
That approach makes sense. A productive season could either increase his value on the trade market or convince the Giants that he deserves to be part of the team’s long-term future.
One factor working in Thibodeaux’s favor is motivation.
Players entering contract years often produce some of the best football of their careers, and 2026 could be a defining season for the former Oregon standout.
Everything coming out of Giants camp has been positive. Thibodeaux appears to be embracing the culture Harbaugh is building and is reportedly doing all the right things both on and off the field.
Of course, some fans have wondered whether the positive reports are intended to boost his trade value. While that’s a fair question, the more likely explanation is that Thibodeaux understands the importance of this season.
Whether he is playing for a new contract with the Giants or another team, every snap matters.
One of the more interesting debates surrounding Thibodeaux is what kind of production would convince the Giants to bring him back.
Is there a magic number?
Ten sacks would certainly qualify as a successful season, but evaluating edge rushers goes beyond sack totals. Quarterback pressures, run defense, consistency, and impact in key moments all matter.
Sometimes the evaluation is simple: you know it when you see it.
If Thibodeaux becomes a disruptive force on a weekly basis and helps elevate the Giants defense, the front office will have a decision to make. If he simply puts up decent numbers without becoming a game-changing player, the conversation becomes much more complicated.
Another factor in all of this is Brian Burns.
The Giants already have significant resources invested in Burns, and eventually they will have to decide how they want to allocate money across the defensive front.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Thibodeaux cannot stay. The Giants are currently in good salary cap shape and have the flexibility to work out a deal if they truly believe he is part of the future.
The question is whether Thibodeaux can prove he is worth that investment.
A strong season would make that conversation much easier.
The Giants aren’t actively shopping Kayvon Thibodeaux, but they’re probably listening.
The problem is that no team appears willing to meet a price that makes moving him worthwhile. If a team was willing to offer a first-round pick, Thibodeaux likely would have been traded already. Even a second-round pick may be difficult to obtain given his contract situation.
That’s why the most logical outcome is also the simplest one.
Let Thibodeaux play.
Let him take advantage of the motivation that comes with a contract year. Let him show what he can do in John Harbaugh’s system. Then revisit the conversation after the season.
If he finally puts everything together and delivers the breakout year Giants fans have been waiting for, bringing him back becomes a much easier decision.
If not, the Giants will have their answer and can move forward accordingly.

]]>New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo recently delivered a message that should have Giants fans fired up heading into the season.
Speaking on NFL Network’s The Insiders, Skattebo confidently stated:
“I’m gonna get back to running people over.”
And honestly? I’m here for it.
Skattebo built a reputation as one of the most physical runners in football. Before injuries slowed his momentum, he showed the toughness, power, and downhill running style that made him a fan favorite. Now, the Giants appear to be building an offense specifically designed to maximize those strengths.
Here are three reasons why I believe Skattebo can back up his bold statement in 2026.
Everything starts in the trenches.
The Giants made a significant investment in their offensive line by selecting offensive guard Sisi Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Mauigoa is expected to step into the starting lineup immediately and bring a physical presence to the interior offensive line.
Adding a day-one starter with elite talent should help create more running lanes and improve consistency in the ground game.
For a runner like Skattebo, that’s a big deal. The more space he has before first contact, the more opportunities he’ll have to punish defenders at the second level.
One of the more underrated offseason additions was veteran fullback Patrick Ricard.
Ricard built his reputation with the Baltimore Ravens as one of the best blocking fullbacks in football. His familiarity with head coach John Harbaugh and the physical style Harbaugh wants to establish makes him a natural fit for this offense.
A fullback may not put up flashy statistics, but his impact can be enormous. Ricard’s ability to clear running lanes and eliminate defenders at the point of attack should help create favorable situations for Skattebo.
If the Giants are serious about becoming a smash-mouth football team, Ricard will play a major role in making that happen.
The coaching upgrades go well beyond hiring Harbaugh.
The Giants also added former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman as Senior Offensive Assistant and Run Game Coordinator.
Roman has built a reputation throughout his career for developing physical rushing attacks and maximizing the strengths of power-running backs. His offenses have consistently ranked among the league’s best rushing units, whether in Baltimore, San Francisco, or Buffalo.
Combine Roman’s run-game expertise with Harbaugh’s commitment to physical football, and it’s easy to see the direction this team wants to take.
The Giants are clearly signaling that they want to establish the run, control the line of scrimmage, and wear opponents down.
That philosophy fits Skattebo perfectly.
Final Thoughts
When Cam Skattebo says he’s ready to get back to running people over, there’s real reason to believe him.
The Giants upgraded the offensive line with Sisi Mauigoa. They added one of football’s premier blocking fullbacks in Patrick Ricard. They brought in Greg Roman to help shape the rushing attack. And they hired John Harbaugh to build a more physical football team.
None of that guarantees success.
But it does create the ideal environment for Skattebo to thrive.
If he stays healthy, Giants fans may finally get to see the version of Cam Skattebo that made defenders think twice about stepping in front of him.

]]>Building and maintaining an NFL roster is one of the toughest challenges in professional sports. Every offseason, teams are forced to make difficult decisions. Salary cap constraints, contract demands, and roster turnover are all part of the business. But there is another factor that often gets overlooked:
Winning.
When a team consistently loses, keeping talented players becomes significantly harder, regardless of the money involved.
Over the years, the New York Giants have watched several respected veterans leave the organization.
Players like Leonard Williams and Julian Love are good examples.
Williams was a key part of the Giants’ defensive front alongside Dexter Lawrence. Together, they consistently collapsed opposing pockets and helped fuel the team’s pass rush.
Love provided versatility in the secondary, filling multiple roles while bringing toughness and reliability to the defense. In today’s NFL, players who can play safety, cover in the slot, and contribute against the run are extremely valuable.
Neither player left because they suddenly became bad football players.
Instead, their departures highlighted a reality many struggling franchises face: players eventually grow frustrated with losing.
Fans often focus on contract numbers when a player leaves, but the situation is usually more complicated.
Professional athletes want to compete for championships. They want to be part of winning cultures and organizations moving in the right direction.
When a team struggles year after year, retaining talent becomes increasingly difficult.
Money matters, but so does belief in the direction of the franchise.
That’s why organizations that consistently win often have an easier time attracting and retaining players.
The most recent example is the Giants’ decision to trade Dexter Lawrence.
While Lawrence was one of the team’s best players, there comes a point where both sides have to be aligned on the future.
Personally, I wouldn’t want anyone on the roster who doesn’t want to be here.
If a player no longer believes in the organization’s direction or wants to move on, sometimes the best decision is to make the trade and continue building around players who fully buy into the vision.
It’s never easy to part with elite talent, but culture matters.
The good news for Giants fans is that the perception of the franchise appears to be changing.
The arrival of John Harbaugh has brought renewed credibility and optimism to the organization. Around the league, players recognize Harbaugh’s track record, leadership style, and ability to build winning football teams.
For the first time in a long time, there are signs that players want to come to New York rather than looking for reasons to leave.
That’s a significant shift.
The departures of Leonard Williams and Julian Love weren’t necessarily mistakes. Instead, they serve as reminders of how difficult it is to keep a roster together when a team isn’t winning.
The Giants’ biggest challenge moving forward isn’t simply managing contracts. It’s creating an environment where players believe they can win.
If John Harbaugh can establish that culture, the Giants may finally reach a point where talented players want to stay, free agents want to sign, and difficult roster decisions become far less common.
Because in the NFL, winning solves almost everything.

]]>While much of the attention has been focused on Odell Beckham Jr.’s return to the Giants, another veteran receiver may have a strong case to earn a roster spot.
With only one or two spots potentially available at the bottom of the receiver depth chart, the preseason could play a major role in determining who makes the final 53-man roster.
If we’re being honest, JuJu Smith-Schuster might be the most intriguing player in this competition.
While Beckham’s reunion with the Giants has generated plenty of headlines and excitement among fans, Smith-Schuster brings a different set of advantages that could appeal to the coaching staff.
For starters, JuJu has been in the NFL for several years but is still under 30 years old. He offers veteran experience without being at the end of his career, making him an interesting blend of experience and upside.
One of the biggest factors in determining the final roster spots is often special teams.
Smith-Schuster has shown a willingness to contribute in multiple phases of the game, something that can significantly improve a player’s chances of making the team. For players competing for depth roles, versatility is often just as important as production at wide receiver.
That’s where JuJu may have an advantage over some of the other veterans competing for roster spots.
Another factor working in Smith-Schuster’s favor is his familiarity with the offensive system.
After spending last season in Matt Nagy’s offense, JuJu enters camp with experience in similar concepts and terminology. That familiarity could help shorten his adjustment period and allow him to contribute sooner than some of his competitors.
For a coaching staff looking for reliable veterans who can quickly execute the offense, that experience shouldn’t be overlooked.
Another factor worth considering is that Braxton Berrios appears to have a strong path to the final 53-man roster.
Following the season-ending injury to Gunner Olszewski, Berrios is expected to handle both kick and punt return duties, giving him significant value on special teams. That could leave even fewer openings for receivers competing for depth roles, making the battle between veterans such as JuJu Smith-Schuster and Odell Beckham Jr. even more interesting.
The Giants are also monitoring the recovery of star wide receiver Malik Nabers, who is still working his way back from ACL surgery. While the organization remains hopeful, many believe his availability for the start of the season remains uncertain.
If Nabers is unavailable or eased back into action early in the season, the Giants may elect to keep additional depth at wide receiver. That scenario could improve the odds for players like Smith-Schuster, but it also means every preseason snap and special teams rep will carry even greater importance.
While the focus has largely been on the battle between Beckham, Berrios, and Smith-Schuster, another important storyline remains the health of Darius Slayton.
Slayton is recovering from sports hernia surgery, raising questions about his availability heading into training camp and the regular season. If his recovery extends longer than expected, it could create additional opportunities for receivers fighting for roster spots.
The Giants may ultimately decide to carry extra depth at wide receiver depending on how several injury situations develop throughout camp.
The battle for the final wide receiver spots could be one of the most entertaining storylines of the Giants’ preseason.
Odell Beckham Jr. brings familiarity and star power. Braxton Berrios offers versatility and return value. But JuJu Smith-Schuster may be the player who quietly checks the most boxes for the coaching staff.
Between his age, experience, willingness to contribute on special teams, and familiarity with offensive concepts, Smith-Schuster could emerge as a legitimate contender to make the Giants’ final roster.
As training camp approaches, don’t be surprised if JuJu becomes one of the most talked-about names in the Giants’ receiver room.

]]>With training camp just around the corner, the New York Giants have largely wrapped up their offseason work. While another move or two could still happen before camp opens, the roster is mostly set, making this the perfect time to evaluate what the front office got right and what could come back to haunt them.
Every fan has their own offseason grades, but rather than assigning a letter grade to the entire offseason, let’s focus on one question:
The Easy Answer Isn’t John Harbaugh
The obvious answer for the Giants’ best offseason move would be hiring John Harbaugh as head coach.vAnd don’t get me wrong, I hope that eventually becomes the correct answer.
Harbaugh brings credibility, leadership, and a winning culture. However, as exciting as the hire is, he hasn’t coached a game for the Giants yet. Until the season starts and we see his impact on the field, it’s impossible to declare him the team’s best offseason move.
That’s why I’m looking elsewhere.
One move that deserves a lot more attention is the Giants bringing back Jermaine Eluemunor. At roughly $13 million per season, Eluemunor likely could have earned more on the open market. Instead, the Giants kept a proven veteran who brings versatility, leadership, and stability to an offensive line that still has plenty to prove.
Not only did they retain a valuable offensive lineman, but they did so at what appears to be a team-friendly price. Considering how difficult it is to find quality offensive linemen in today’s NFL, this was a smart piece of business by Joe Schoen and the front office.
If I had to pick one move that stands above the rest, it’s the addition of Tremaine Edmunds. As someone who appreciates great defensive football, I love what Edmunds brings to this defense. The Giants didn’t just add an athletic linebacker. They added size, experience, leadership, and versatility to the middle of the defense.
What makes the move even more exciting is how Edmunds could impact the development of rookie linebacker Arvell Reese. Reese has the physical tools, speed, and upside to become a difference-maker, but having a veteran like Edmunds alongside him could accelerate his growth. Edmunds has seen it all in this league, and his presence should help Reese learn the nuances of the position while allowing the Giants to maximize his athletic ability.
For a defense looking to establish a new identity under John Harbaugh, Edmunds has the potential to become one of the most important additions on the roster.
The Move That Still Stings
Now for the difficult part.
I never expected Dexter Lawrence to be traded. When the move happened, it caught me completely off guard. At the same time, I understood part of the organization’s thinking. If a player is looking for a significant raise after an underwhelming season, difficult decisions sometimes have to be made.
The Giants ultimately received the No. 10 overall pick in return, which is significant value. Still, that’s not the part of the trade that concerns me.
Did the Giants Make a Mistake Passing on Caleb Downs?
The biggest concern isn’t necessarily trading Dexter Lawrence. It’s what happened afterward. The Giants had an opportunity to select Caleb Downs, widely viewed as one of the top defensive prospects in the draft, and instead chose a different direction. Now Downs is a Dallas Cowboy. That’s the part that could end up hurting.
Giants fans won’t have to wait long to find out if they made the right decision. New York will see Downs twice every season for years to come, and if he develops into the player many evaluators believe he can be, this decision could become one of the defining storylines of the offseason.
The hope, of course, is that Maui Noa develops into a star and proves the Giants made the right choice.
But until that happens, the comparison will be unavoidable.
Final Thoughts
As training camp approaches, I view the signing of Tremaine Edmunds as the Giants’ best offseason move, with the re-signing of Jermaine Eluemunor close behind.
On the other side, the biggest question mark isn’t necessarily the Dexter Lawrence trade itself. It’s whether the Giants will regret passing on Caleb Downs and allowing him to land with a division rival.
