Giants President John Mara shared an official statement addressing Jones’ departure from the team.

“Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him,” said Mara. “We mutually agreed that this decision was best for him and for the team.”

This decision marks a significant change for both the organization and Jones, who has been with the team since being drafted in 2019.

High Praise for Jones’ Character

Mara did not hold back his admiration for Jones’ professionalism.

“Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that,” Mara explained.

Despite the challenges leading to this moment, Mara made it clear that the team still holds Jones in high regard.

“We are all disappointed in how things have worked out,” he said. “We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Benched in Favor of Tommy DeVito

Earlier this week, Jones was benched in favor of third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito. The move hinted at a shift in the Giants’ strategy and raised questions about Jones’ future with the team. This release now confirms that the Giants are moving in a new direction.

While the decision may be difficult for fans and the organization, it underscores the Giants’ focus on their long-term plans. As for Jones, his next chapter awaits, and he leaves New York with the respect and gratitude of the franchise.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. This effectively marks the end of his career in East Rutherford. The decision came after a Week 10 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Germany, a performance that left fans and analysts alike questioning Jones’ future.

Giants Promote Tommy DeVito to QB1

Instead of elevating Drew Lock to the starting role, the Giants opted to promote Tommy DeVito to QB1. Head coach Brian Daboll explained the reasoning behind the move during a press conference:

“After evaluating a bunch of things and looking at a lot of tape and being around Tommy last year where he created a little bit of a spark for us, that’s the reason why we’re going with Tommy,” Daboll stated. “Drew will be the backup. Continue to work with him. He’s been nothing but a pro and as was Daniel.”

While Daboll avoided specifics about Jones’ demotion, financial considerations are likely a factor. The team faces an injury clause and a $23 million guaranteed salary for Jones in 2025. Acknowledging this openly could lead to complications with the NFLPA.

Daniel Jones Addresses the Fans

On Wednesday, Daniel Jones shared his thoughts in a prepared statement, expressing gratitude for his time with the Giants:

“The opportunity to play for the New York Giants was truly a dream come true,” Jones said. “I’m extremely grateful to the Mara and Tisch families for the chance to play here. The Giants are truly a first-class organization, and I have nothing but genuine respect and appreciation for the people who have built it and who helped carry on that tradition.”

Jones acknowledged his struggles this season and took accountability for the team’s lack of success:

“Of course, this season has been disappointing for all and, of course, I wish I could have done more. I’m 100% accountable for my part. I did not play well enough, consistently enough to help the team get the results.”

What’s Next for the Giants?

The Giants now turn to DeVito to create a spark as they prepare for their next game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fans will watch closely to see if this bold move can salvage the remainder of the season and set a new direction for the future.

 Subscribe

The post Daniel Jones Benched: Giants Turn to Tommy DeVito first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">46838</post-id>

Giants Fall to Panthers in Overtime: 20-17 Loss

Marco Ceo

New York Giants Game Recap

New York Giants News

Brian Burns

Brian Daboll

Daniel Jones

Evan Neal

Graham Gano

Headline

Jalin Hyatt

Tyrone Tracy

Struggles Mount as Giants Enter the Bye Week This game was tough…

The post Giants Fall to Panthers in Overtime: 20-17 Loss first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

Struggles Mount as Giants Enter the Bye Week

This game was tough to break down. Writing about these losses is getting more difficult as the season drags on. The 20-17 overtime loss to the Panthers highlights the ongoing struggles for the New York Giants. This article is late, let’s blame low enthusiasm..

Offensive Woes Continue

Daniel Jones may have played his final game as the Giants’ starting quarterback. Against the NFL’s worst defense, Jones struggled for most of the game. His performance raises questions about his future, and Brian Daboll might make a change soon.

Despite his poor showing, Jones showed some life in the final drive of regulation. He made solid throws and pushed the ball downfield without timeouts, forcing overtime.

Tyrone Tracy delivered another solid game but will likely be remembered for his costly overtime fumble. That mistake ultimately sealed the Giants’ fate.

Jalin Hyatt finally saw more action, catching four passes for 39 yards after being barely used all season. It’s a positive sign for the rookie’s development.

Evan Neal returned to the field for the first time since 2023. The right tackle looked decent, potentially earning a starting role after the bye week.

Defensive Struggles

The pass rush only managed one sack on Bryce Young, recorded by former Panther Brian Burns. Burns now has six sacks on the season but still hasn’t become the dominant force the Giants need.

Special Teams and Looking Ahead

Graham Gano bounced back after a rough start, nailing a clutch kick to send the game to overtime. His reliability could be a bright spot in an otherwise dim season.

At 2-8, the Giants sit at the bottom of the NFL standings. For now, they hold the first or second pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With the bye week ahead, fans are left wondering: Can this team win another game this season?

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. This defeat drops the Giants to 2-7, leaving fans wondering what the rest of the season holds.

Commanders Sweep Giants in 2024 Season Series

The Commanders are no longer the easy win on the schedule. With a 7-2 record and a commanding lead in the NFC East, the Commanders completed the season sweep of the Giants. This marks a troubling trend as the Giants struggle to find their footing.

Offensive Performance.

Daniel Jones Shows Improvement in the Second Half.

Quarterback Daniel Jones had a stronger second half, completing 16 of 20 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Jones even ended his touchdown drought at MetLife Stadium, a streak that had lasted since Week 17 of 2022. Using his mobility, Jones also showcased his toughness by breaking through defenders for a rushing touchdown. While a potential third touchdown was nullified due to a questionable pass interference call on Darius Slayton, Jones displayed resilience in his efforts.

Tyrone Tracy’s Contribution and Theo Johnson’s Redemption.

Running back Tyrone Tracy contributed in the first half with 50 rushing yards but saw limited action in the second half, adding only 16 more yards as the Giants shifted to a pass-heavy approach. Tight end Theo Johnson struggled early but redeemed himself with a touchdown catch that brought the Giants closer at 27-22. With his 6’6” frame, Johnson’s potential for making big plays should be utilized more often.

Defensive Struggles.

Pass Rush Falls Short.

The Giants’ top-ranked pass rush failed to sack Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. The defense couldn’t make stops on crucial third downs, allowing Daniels to keep the Commanders’ offense on the field. Without pressuring the quarterback, the Giants’ defense left themselves vulnerable and paid the price.

Special Teams and Looking Ahead.

The Giants’ decision to go for two points on touchdown drives may have cost them. The game wasn’t out of reach, and missing those extra points left the Giants in a hole they struggled to escape. With a 0-5 home record and the trade deadline looming, questions arise about potential roster moves. Will the Giants look to trade key players like Darius Slayton or Azeez Ojulari?

What’s Next?

The Giants’ final game before the bye week will be in Germany against the Panthers. Can they pull off a win? Unfortunately, he continues to falter when the stakes are highest and hasn’t found a way to deliver under pressure.

Jones had two chances to tie the game late but couldn’t make it happen. On the second attempt, Jones forced a throw into coverage and missed a wide-open receiver in the middle of the field, ending what had been a promising drive with no timeouts left and the ball being intercepted.

Tyrone Tracy looked like the clear first-choice running back, logging 20 carries while Devin Singletary saw just two. Tracy’s performance suggests he’s solidifying his spot as the Giants’ RB1.

Malik Nabers had some bright moments, but a dropped pass on a crucial third down ended a potential scoring drive. There’s no need to panic about the drops just yet — it seems to be more of a connection issue between Nabers and Jones.

Darius Slayton stood out with several impressive catches. If the Giants decide to trade him, they may get the best value now, with his stock as high as it’s likely to get ahead of the November 5th trade deadline.

Defensive Issues

Azeez Ojulari added two more sacks to his total, continuing to boost his trade value. Teams looking for pass-rush help will likely be reaching out to the Giants about him as the trade deadline approaches.

However, the Giants’ secondary was exposed, giving up several big plays to the Steelers’ receivers. Another concern was the benching of rookie Deonte Banks, especially with the team already thin at cornerback. Banks may not be ready to be the shutdown CB1 the Giants hoped for and could settle in as more of a CB2.

Special Teams and Missed Opportunities

The referees missed a roughing-the-kicker penalty on Matt Haack, which could have given the Giants some much-needed momentum. It’s unfortunate, but struggling teams often don’t get those calls on the road.

Kicker Greg Joseph was once again reliable, going 4-for-4 on field goals. He’s now 13-for-16 on the season, showing consistency when the Giants need it most.

What’s Next for the Giants?

With a 2-6 record, the Giants appear to be heading toward another high draft pick. Their next game against the Commanders won’t be an easy matchup either. The Commanders, currently sitting in first place, are poised to give the Giants serious trouble.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. Their total rushing yards added up to just 76, far below expectations, especially with former Giant Saquon Barkley dominating their defense.

Offensive Line Issues

The Giants’ offensive line held up decently for the first six weeks of the season. However, Andrew Thomas’ injury exposed major weaknesses. Joshua Ezeudu’s performance at left tackle was a significant problem, making it clear he isn’t the answer.

Daniel Jones and QB Concerns

Daniel Jones didn’t have much support, but he also struggled to respond to Philadelphia’s defense. His streak without a touchdown pass at MetLife Stadium continues—now four games into 2024 without a single passing touchdown at home. The streak stretches back to Week 17 of last season.

Drew Lock, who took snaps later, didn’t offer much of a spark. It’s unclear if Brian Daboll will start Lock next week against the Steelers. However, Lock’s uninspiring play gives little reason to believe he’s the solution.

Limited Impact from Malik Nabers

Malik Nabers was active but quiet. After a promising start to the season, he failed to register a catch in the second half, limiting his impact in a critical game.

Defensive Standouts and Setbacks

Dexter Lawrence continues to make his case for Defensive Player of the Year. Despite the team’s struggles, Lawrence has been dominant in 2024. The defense managed five sacks on Jalen Hurts, but the Eagles still racked up 269 rushing yards.

Saquon Barkley had a revenge game for the ages, torching the Giants with 176 rushing yards, a touchdown, and 187 all-purpose yards. The Giants couldn’t contain him throughout the game.

Special Teams and Outlook

Special teams didn’t have much to contribute. With only one field goal made by backup specialists, they couldn’t shift momentum.

At 2-5, the Giants are inching closer to another top draft pick. A win would’ve given them a glimmer of hope, but the lack of offensive production makes it hard to believe this team will turn things around in 2024.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. Here’s a breakdown of the game.

Offensive Struggles Continue.

Daniel Jones now sits at 1-14 in primetime games and 0-2 for 2024. Unfortunately, he continues to fall short under the spotlight.

The interception Jones threw in the red zone was a critical mistake. In that situation, it’s better to take the sack or throw the ball away—anything but turn it over. His decision-making let the team down.

Jones also missed key throws. One painful example was a 4th-and-3 pass targeting Darius Slayton when Wan’Dale Robinson was wide open.

At MetLife Stadium, Jones hasn’t thrown a touchdown since Week 17 of 2022 against the Colts. So far in 2024, he’s thrown 4 interceptions and 0 touchdowns at home.

On a brighter note, Tyrone Tracy had a breakout game. With 50 rushing yards, 57 receiving yards, and his first NFL touchdown, he proved he deserves more snaps. Tracy is making a case to be RB2 and could push for the top spot if Devin Singletary’s fumble issues continue.

Jalin Hyatt finally recorded his first catch of the season, but it was only for six yards on four targets. It’s hard not to wonder if the hype around Hyatt is beginning to fade.

Defensive Highlights.

Azeez Ojulari had a stellar performance with two sacks and constant pressure on Joe Burrow. His presence was felt throughout the game, especially with Kayvon Thibodeaux out.

Brian Burns seems to be finding his rhythm. He notched another sack and brought solid pressure off the edge.

Dexter Lawrence continues to dominate, earning his seventh sack of the season. He commands double teams on nearly every play and is building a strong case for Defensive Player of the Year in 2024.

Special Teams Missteps.

Greg Joseph struggled, missing two field goals after making eight straight. His inconsistency put the team in a tough spot.

Despite the loss, the Giants controlled much of the game, shutting down the Bengals’ offense for long stretches. Missed opportunities cost them a win in a game that was within reach.

Next Up: A Critical Matchup Against the Eagles

The Giants now face a crucial game against the Philadelphia Eagles. This matchup marks Saquon Barkley’s return to MetLife Stadium after leaving in free agency. The Giants need a win to prevent their season from slipping away early.

The last time the Giants hosted the Eagles, they walked away with a victory. Another win would go a long way in resetting the 2024 campaign.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. Let’s break down the major highlights.

New York Giants Offensive Breakdown.

Daniel Jones’ Resilience.

Daniel Jones delivered a solid performance, especially with his deep throws to Darius Slayton, including two big plays on one scoring drive. Despite an early fumble—caused by stepping on Andrew Thomas’ foot—Jones stayed composed. He bounced back by leading the offense down the field without missing a beat.

Tyrone Tracy Making His Case.

Tyrone Tracy had a breakout game, rushing for 129 yards on 18 carries. His physical style, especially lowering his shoulder on tough runs, stood out. Tracy’s burst through the line was evident, and he clearly outperformed Eric Gray. If Devin Singletary continues fumbling, Tracy could soon challenge for the starting role.

Darius Slayton Shines.

Despite two drops, Slayton had a solid game. His reliability was on display, and he hauled in deep passes that contributed to the win. If the Giants keep winning, it will be tough to trade Slayton, even though his contract is expiring.

Disappointing for Jalin Hyatt.

Jalin Hyatt, however, had a surprising zero-target game. For a second-year player, it’s concerning to see no impact so far this season. I thought this game we would see some flashes given the status of Malik Nabers.

Theo Johnson Stepping Up.

Theo Johnson showed promise as a receiver. His performance was encouraging, and if he can stay consistent, he could become a reliable option in the Giants’ passing game.

Offensive Line Improvements.

The Giants’ offensive line continues to show improvement. Despite Jones being sacked three times, the line has only allowed 12 sacks this season, a huge leap from last year. They also paved the way for 175 rushing yards, a major win for the offense.

New York Giants Defensive Breakdown.

Pass Rush Bringing the Heat.

The Giants’ pass rush dominated, recording seven sacks. Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux both got to Geno Smith, with Burns’ fourth-down sack being especially crucial.

Dexter Lawrence Dominates.

Dexter Lawrence was a game-changer, recording three sacks. His presence in the middle is a massive advantage for the Giants. No surprises here it’s what we expect.

Deonte Banks Solid in Coverage.

Deonte Banks bounced back from a few rough games. He held D.K. Metcalf in check, limiting his impact and helping the defense shut down Seattle’s passing attack.

New York Giants Special Teams Breakdown.

Greg Joseph Dependable as Kicker.

Greg Joseph has become a reliable asset. Since his first game miss, he’s been perfect, hitting 8-for-8 field goals. The Giants don’t need to rush Graham Gano back from injury as long as Joseph stays consistent.

Isaiah Simmons’ Big Play.

Isaiah Simmons delivered a game-saving play, blocking a potential game-tying field goal. Bryce Ford-Wheaton’s return sealed the win, swinging the momentum back to the Giants at the perfect time.

Next Week’s Challenge: Bengals on Sunday Night.

Next week, the Giants face the Bengals in prime time. Joe Burrow and his dynamic receivers, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, will be tough to contain. However, if the Giants play as they did against Seattle, they can pull off another win.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. There were several issues that stood out in this game, and the loss highlighted some critical areas that need improvement.

Daniel Jones’ Passing Struggles.

Statistically, Daniel Jones had a decent game, throwing for 281 yards on 29-for-40 passing. However, this doesn’t tell the full story. He struggled with his deep throws, with several underthrown balls. One deep ball was picked off on a free play that was called back, while another could have been intercepted by Malik Hooker. Jones needs to improve his deep ball accuracy, as his final deep attempt was also intercepted.

Malik Nabers Shines.

On a positive note, Malik Nabers continued his impressive season, catching 12 passes for 115 yards. He’s quickly becoming one of the better wideouts in the league. The Giants can only hope that his concussion isn’t serious, as Nabers has clearly become the team’s top receiver.

Wide Receiver Woes.

Outside of Nabers’ play, the Giants’ wide receivers didn’t help Jones much. There were far too many dropped passes, including a critical drop by Wan’Dale Robinson late in the game. This was a catch the Giants desperately needed to extend a drive that could have led to a win.

Running Game Disappears.

The Giants’ rushing attack was non-existent, with just 24 carries for 26 yards, averaging only 1.1 yards per carry. This is particularly concerning since the Cowboys had previously given up over 200 rushing yards to both the Saints and Ravens.

Jalin Hyatt’s Disappearance.

Jalin Hyatt has been almost invisible through four games, recording zero catches, zero yards, and only two targets. The Giants need more production from him. I’m waiting to see what the total snap count was for Hyatt, my guess was pretty low.

Deonte Banks’ Coverage Concerns.

Deonte Banks had a rough day, getting burned by CeeDee Lamb on a long touchdown. He’s looking more like a second corner rather than a lockdown one.

Pass Rush Problems.

Kayvon Thibodeaux managed one sack on Dak Prescott, but the Giants struggled to bring him down consistently. Brian Burns, meanwhile, has failed to make a significant impact, with only one sack through four games. Burns’ name wasn’t called much, which isn’t a good sign.

Kicking Game Keeps Giants Afloat.

Greg Joseph was the Giants’ entire offense, nailing five field goals, including one from 52 yards. A game of only field goals is obviously not a winning formula.

Cowboys Continue to Dominate the Rivalry.

The Cowboys have now beaten the Giants seven straight times, winning 14 of their last 15 matchups since 2017. The Giants’ inability to convert drives into touchdowns remains a consistent problem.

Looking Ahead.

The Giants now get a 10-day break before they travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. Seattle could be 4-0 by then, making it a tough matchup for the Giants. This extended time off gives the team an opportunity to regroup and fix their mistakes.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. With three games down, they sit at 1-2, but they could easily be 2-1. Let’s break down what happened in each game and why there’s hope moving forward.

Vikings’ Defense Proved to Be Legit.

The Minnesota Vikings were better than expected. Their defense has been one of the main reasons for their impressive 3-0 start. We didn’t expect them to dominate like they did. Sam Darnold, their quarterback, is showing why he could be in the running for Comeback Player of the Year. The Vikings’ win against the Giants was a wake-up call. They controlled both sides of the ball, and the Giants struggled to keep up.

Missed Opportunity Against Washington.

The second game was where the Giants had a chance to pull out a win. Daniel Jones played well, and the defense did its job. They bent but didn’t break, allowing only field goals, not touchdowns. But Washington managed to move down the field and secure enough points to win.

If the Giants had handled their roster management better, they might have pulled it off. Knowing Graham Gano was injured, a backup kicker should have been brought in earlier. This simple adjustment could have changed the game’s outcome.

A Solid Bounce Back Against the Browns.

In their third game, the Giants found some redemption. Daniel Jones had a solid performance, and rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers showed why he’s a rising star. The defense stepped up when it mattered, producing timely sacks and stops. This led to the Giants’ first win of the season against the Cleveland Browns.

Looking Ahead: Cowboys on Thursday Night.

NFL experts often say the first four games give you a real sense of a team’s potential. The Giants now face the Dallas Cowboys this Thursday. This game will be crucial in determining if they’ll sit at 2-2 or fall to 1-3 after four games. Either way, the Giants have shown promise, and there’s hope for improvement.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral.
