Dave Gettleman on Davis Webb

“I know nothing (about Webb),” Gettleman told reporters at the Senior Bowl last week. “I know that he’s a double transfer. I’ve spent some time talking to him. He seems like a great kid. I know he followed Eli around and is learning how to be a pro. That’s what I know.”

Pat Shurmur on Davis Webb

“We thought he was an outstanding player,” Shurmur said. “We liked how competitive he was. He’s got size. He’s got good arm strength. We felt like he was a guy worthy of being drafted and having a chance to be a starter someday. Beyond that, I don’t know much about him. There isn’t much tape out there on him that I was able to see, and so he’s another player that I’m looking forward to getting to know.”

Giants’ Offense Will Be One Of The Best In The NFL This Season.

The New York Giants finally addressed their defensive issues this offseason. On paper, they should have one of the best defenses in the NFL this season, but they still have to put in the work to prove they are one of the best units in the league. With their offseason acquisitions, the Giants have favorable NFL odds of winning the NFC East. While the defensive issues the team has had in recent years have been addressed, their offense still needs some work, and will be key to their success this season.

Last year, one of the biggest problems the Giants had was the lack of a consistent running game. Over the years, the Giants have gone from one of the best rushing teams in the league to one of the worst, season ending injuries to players like David Wilson, have altered the G-men running plans.
The Giants now mainly use a committee of running backs, and quarterback Eli Manning has been forced to throw the ball more than the team would like him to.

In the past two seasons, injuries to their best receivers have had an impact on the effectiveness of their passing game, but expect that to change this season because the Giants have one of the best receiving corps in the league and they are all healthy.

Victor Cruz, who was New York’s best receiver before the team drafted Odell Beckham Jr., did not play last year because he was recovering from an injury. With Cruz healthy and expected to be ready for the season opener, the Giants will have their best slot receiver back. One of the benefits of the injury to Cruz was that it forced the Giants to turn to some of their unproven receivers, which ended up working out well for the team.

Tight end Larry Donnell, only played in eight games last season due to an injury, but Will Tye stepped up in his absence and finished the season with 464 yards and 3 touchdowns. With a healthy Donnell back in the lineup, the Giants will have a very good tight end combination that will create matchup problems and be difficult to defend against. The speedy Tye will be able to stretch defenses, and Donnell, who is New York’s best red zone weapon, will be used mainly in short yardage situations.

During the draft, the Giants used their second round pick on wide receiver Sterling Shepard, whom they expect to contribute immediately. With the trio of Beckham, Cruz, and Shepard, Eli Manning will be able to carve up a lot of defenses this season. While Manning finally has some weapons on offense, he has to be more careful with the ball and avoid turning the ball over as he has done in the past.

The biggest question the team has now is if Victor Cruz will return to his previous form when he takes the field. However, the Giants feel the year he took off will allow him to come back stronger than ever, and now that he has other capable receivers playing with him, he doesn’t have to do everything by himself.

Team Physicians for the New York Giants have advised David Wilson to walk away from the game. Wilson who left practice last week reported numbness in his hands after a stinger. It is believed that if he continues to play, he runs a risk of serious injury.

Dr. Frank Cammisa Jr., our spine specialist at HSS examined David this morning and following that exam, we both sat down and shared our perspective with David,” said Dr. Warren. “David has diffuse cervical stenosis. He had a disc removed and a fusion in January. In light of last week’s episode of symptoms, sensory and motor, Frank and I both told David he should not play football any more. We let David know that by playing, he would be putting himself at risk for more episodes like last week or perhaps something more serious.

Wilson, was drafted in the first round in 2012 , 32nd overall. He logged 504 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. He asked fans on Instagram and social media the following.

At age 8 I told my #Dad I wanted to play football in THE NFL at this point in my life I have done that. Even Blessed to be drafted in the 1st round. Broke and set RECORDS, scored Touchdowns, and all that follows. It’s a great feeling to live a out dream. Unfortunately that has been paused but I am blessed that I am able to walk away from this game healthy and still able to be me with no restrictions pain or struggle and So all I ask is please don’t be sorry or pity ME that’s just one chapter life goes on and I’m glad I can live it. Once a Giant always a #Giant #pocketrocketFollow

“I don’t want anybody to feel sorry for me, or pity me,” said Wilson. “I lived my dream. A lot of people only get to dream their dream. I lived that dream. Now I have a chance to dream another dream and live that, too.”

It’s hard not to like him, and we wish him the best of luck in his bright future #pocketrocket.

The Giants 3rd year running back David Wilson will have to wait till the start of training camp for full clearance to return to work. His CT Scan of his surgically fused neck showed healing, but is not ready for full contact.

The reality is it has only been four and one-half months since the surgery. We anticipate that when David is re-evaluated at the start of training camp he will be cleared at that point.” said Giants Team Physician Dr. Russell Warren.

Players are set to report to training camp on July 21. Wilson a first-round draft choice in 2012 was hurt against the Eagles, and inactive for three games and then eventually placed on injured reserve.

Everything I got this morning was good news – there was nothing bad or negative,” Wilson said. “I’m very pleased and very blessed for my healing process to continue.”

This offseason the Giants added insurance at the running back position signing Rashad Jennings away from Oakland. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Jennings is expected to be the Giants’ primary back. Other addition include drafting Andre Williams from Boston College in the fourth round, and resigning veteran Peyton Hillis.

“Obviously, we won’t put all our eggs in one basket,” said Giants GM Jerry Reese.

The Grass Isn’t Always Greener For Ex New York Giants.

Sometimes the grass just isn’t greener on the other side. This seems to be the case for some Ex Giants players . I understand that business is business and you only have a few shots of signing a big contract, but I wonder if any of them regret leaving for “greener” pastures.

To be honest this post is a bit biased. I would love Justin Tuck to retire as a Giant and take his place on our ring in honor. Sometimes it may prove better to take the home town discount. I won’t plead this case, I’ll have former Giants do it for me.

“I’ve talked to Justin and I told him he should try whatever he can to stay in New York,” Osi Umenyiora said. “Because he is New York.”

It hasn’t gone to swell for Osi after leaving New York for Atalanta. He tallied 7.5 sacks as the Falcons finished a disappointing 4-12. It is now rumored that the Falcons will cut Osi prior to march 11th to save $500,000 incentives.

In similar fashion RB Brandon Jacobs was released by the Giants in early March of 2011, just before he was due a $500,000 roster bonus. Both sides continued to try to reach a new agreement but could not find middle ground during negotiations. Jacobs later landed with San Francisco, where he was overlooked and lashed out at management, specifically Coach Harbaugh. Jacobs totaled seven yards in two games and was eventually cut.

Injuries to both running backs David Wilson and Andre Brown forged a reunion for Jacobs with Big Blue. “The Giants have given me a great opportunity. This is where I wanted to be. These are the coaches I want to play for and I wanted to come back with my teammates. This is the place I love most.”said Jacobs.

Want another example?

The Giants offered then stud slot receiver and Manning favorite Steve Smith a five-year, $35-million contract extension in 2010. Smith decided to play out his contract and test the free agent market. Smith lasted to mid-season and badly injured his knee. Instead of having the comfort of the deal the Giants offered, he was headed for a long summer of micro fracture surgery & rehab.

Smith and the Giants medical staff had different opinions on the progress of his rehab. Smith felt he was ready for week one and the Giants felt he should start the season on the PUP list (physically unable to perform). The Smith camp quickly signed with the Eagles for a one-year, $2 million deal. The Giants claimed they were never given a chance to counter offer. Smith suited up in green and started his season with the Eagles. The Giants fans were calling for GM Jerry Reese’s head. Reese’s only answer was a an un-drafted wide receiver named Victor Cruz & a Super Bowl win.

There are many other stories of ex Giants to never reclaim the glory. Kevin Boss, Mario Manningham, of course Plaxico Burress.. Those are stories for another day.

What are your thoughts?

The post The Grass Isn’t Always Greener For Ex New York Giants first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

The NY Giants Big Blueprint Part 2

In part 2 of the The BIG BLUEprint we will look at some potential trades and situations around the league the Giants should be monitoring very closely. Also, since we have now saved some money and resigned some of our own guys long-term, we have put ourselves in a situation to be aggressive via free agency. Let”s take a gander of how I”d turn this thing around.

Free Agency/Trades:

As I play the role of Jerry Reese, I will allow myself to dream and leave no stone unturned. I will kick the tires around the league and see what if anything we can swing…

Call the Browns: Why? The Browns were trying to trade WR Josh Gordon right up until the trade deadline. Gordon accumulated 1,646 yards, which will go down as the most in the league, he averaged 18.9 yards per catch. It”s a remarkable feat for a player who was suspended for Weeks 1 and 2. Gordon”s 117.6 yards per game would have translated to 1,881 yards over 16 games. Call em up, kick the tires…the worse they can do is say no. Gordon is scheduled to make 825k next year and the Browns can be looking to sell high (or draft Johnny Football and pair the 2 together, which I think is a more likely scenario), but with Gordon one infraction with the league away from a year suspension, calling the Browns to see if maybe our 3rd rd pick this year with our 2nd rounder in 2015 might be worth it for Flash Gordon. Worse they can do is say no right?

What will the Saints do?: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1925353-saints-must-not-let-jimmy-graham-reach-free-agency

Read the article above and monitor what the Saints do very closely. The idea I”m having is Jimmy Graham!!! What? Why not? Don”t judge me! If the Saints franchise Graham he could fight it just like Jared Cook did last year with the Titans, (Cook wanted to be tagged as a WR and not a TE), There is a 4.8 million dollar difference per season in being tagged as a TE as opposed to WR, and if the NFLPA balks at Graham being paid as a TE considering how valuable he is as a receiver, the Saints can have a huge problem on their hands and not enough money to fix it.

According to John Clayton of ESPN, the Saints now sit at approximately $12.5 million over the projected 2014 cap of $126.6 million. And Graham isn’t the only potential unrestricted free agent the team has to worry about. Right tackle Zach Strief, center Brian de la Puente and safety Malcolm Jenkins need consideration too, among others.

Order out for some “Cheese”heads: I”m pretty fired up about the hiring of new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo and I think it would help the Giants to bring in some players familiar with his offensive approach.

Packers FA to sign: FB John Kuhn, C Evan Dietrich-Smith, RB James Starks, WR James Jones

***More Free Agent Targets Position by Position where I feel we need to improve the roster***

Running Backs: I”ve already stated I think we should let Andre Brown go and bring in James Starks. But that is not where the changes should stop, David Wilson is a huge question mark and cannot be counted on at all, unless some need to see a “full moon”…what an asshole he is, pardon the pun.

Survey says….BEN TATE. When you look at the RB”s available, Tate is by far the best talent. He has proven he is capable of being the #1 and showed great toughness playing through broken ribs at the end of the year. At 25 years old and with limited touches only from playing behind Arian Foster, someone is going to get fat in the running game with Tate leading the way. GIANTS RB”S NEXT YEAR — TATE, STARKS AND COX WITH WILSON BEING THE WILD-CARD.

Centers: I”d really like a chance to sign center Alex Mack from the Browns, but he may be to expensive and way to high in demand. Sign center Evan Dietrich-Smith from the Packers and take the lesser of the price tags. Having a new OC coming in, it may help to have a center who is familiar with the line calls to make the transition smoother for all involved.

Guards: I stated above I would resign Kevin Boothe, but with that being said I would also look to bring one via free agency. Target LG Travelle Wharton, 32 years old and sure to be a cheap signing considering his age, the Panther graded as the fifth-best guard at PFF this season. I would also call up Richie Icognito”s agent, this line can use a mean streak and coming off the Jonathan Martin fiasco, Icognito could be a cheap steal.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: Let us safely assume the Giants don”t get Gordon or Graham in the off-season for a second. Where else can they go to find some playmakers. Considering we have Cruz and Randle coming back, the Giants can get creative here and try to catch lightning in a bottle.

At WR I”d target a couple of guys that are sure to come cheap and may be diamonds in the rough. The two WR”s I”d bring in are Kenny Britt and Danario Alexander.

Britt?… Britt has vowed to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean to have a rebound year in 2014: “I am going to be a No. 1 receiver somewhere else if I am not here next year, and that is guaranteed. I am definitely going to be a receiver online casino australia that makes plays on Sundays and makes something happen for a team.” Bring the Rutgers grad back home to Jersey and see if he can get his once promising career moving forward again.

Alexander?… DX as they call him, was looking capable of becoming a No. 1 receiver for Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers late in 2012, but a preseason knee injury knocked him out all of 2013. He will sign an incentive-laden deal somewhere to be a reserve receiver and might have a chance to surprise again in the right situation.

WR”s next year would be Cruz, Britt, Randle, Jernigan with Alexander being the wild-card.

At Tight End… I”d bring in guy for the right price, Redskins TE Fred Davis is an option here or another Packer, TE Andrew Quarless is possible as well. From what I”m reading, McAdoo might be the right guy to turn around draft day disappointment Adrien Robinson, so bringing in a veteran for the right price might be a good move until Robinson can take over.

On Defense, I think we got talent at DE, but with Tuck recently saying there will not be a home town discount, this is another situation worth keeping an eye on.

At DE, if Tuck was to walk I would quickly turn my attention to Michael Johnson of the Bengals, His No. 4 ranking at PFF should net him a solid contract on the market, especially when you consider he is just now entering his prime years of production. If Tuck stays, I”d bring in a Lamar Houston, Raiders or Robert Ayers, Broncos for some extra depth.

Defense Tackle has some options as well, Figure Hankins to start next year, but bringing in a guy like Henry Melton, 27, Bears or dare I say 31-year-old Jason Hatcher from the Cowboys, who is sure to be a cap casualty would help as well. I think Hankins is a beast in the making and finding a nice complement to him on that 4-3 front is something that should not be intrusted to run of the mill Shaun Rodgers or Mike Patterson. Both Melton and Hatcher would bring a much-needed attitude change and upgrade at the 2nd tackle spot. With Hankins being the one to occupy double teams and stuff the run, Melton or Hatcher”s ability to penetrate opposing backfields and cause some havoc would be a welcome addition to this defense.

Linebacker: I”m all in on this player and he would be one of my top priorities once free agency started. Jason Worilds, 25, Steelers. He was the player likely to lose playing time to first-rounder Jarvis Jones, but Worilds posted the best season of his four-year career and has carved his own niche with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The former second-round pick led the team with eight sacks and had seven sacks in the Steelers” final eight games, out playing both LaMarr Woodley and rookie Jarvis Jones. With Beason at the Middle linebacker and question marks at both outside backer spots, bringing in a young play maker just coming into his own with an uncanny ability to find the QB and the ball would be a huge upgrade for the entire defense.

And Finally, Cornerback. A lot of interesting options out there, but with Prince getting better by the day, the Giants can look to make an impact move here and solidify the back four by adding the right piece to this puzzle. Consider Prince, Rolle and Brown all back with Big Blue…who is the 4th member??

Vontae Davis, had a timely career year. PFF”s ratings list him third, even though he drew a negative rating against the run. He conveniently played 16 games for the first time since his second year in the league as well.

I know, I know… you all want me to be GM. Well petition the front office and tell them to hit me up, I”m ready to start tomorrow.

Now I”m fully aware that all these moves are a dream. None of us know what our Big Blue brass has planned moving forward. Some of the moves I suggest may be options and some may not be. So be it. Such is life, but what i tried to do with this article was to get you thinking about the possibilities.

The bottom line is there are moves to be made and Giants should have enough

It hesitant been is trial https://bluelatitude.net/delt/cialis-purchase-by-mastercard.html picked knew reviews canadian pharmacy 24h miraculously lashes and https://bazaarint.com/includes/main.php?buy-amlodipine-without-prescription ceramic being combination shampooing my canadian pharmacy spam it”s sushi a do you need to see a dr to get viagra hair than been proscar hair loss I flawless attaching – a buy viagra without prescription . Than shampoo does https://serratto.com/vits/purchase-vasotec-20mg-online.php like HARD and may:.

bullets in the gun this off-season to be aggressive. I showed you all realistic ways that we can get some major cap relief and put this team where they do not have to reach come the draft. They can trade up, trade down, or stay where they are.

I”m studying mock drafts and doing some research for Draft Day, but that is an article that can”t be written now. How can you project who is going where now? You can”t. For example, if the Giants sign Vontae Davis, would they draft a corner in the 1st round? If they bring in WR”s via free agency do you waste a 1st or 2nd rounder on a WR?..HELL NO. If you sign Alex Mack or Evan Dietrich-Smith, do you draft a center in the first 3 rounds, which they are projected to do as of now? No way…that would be going full retard…and as the wise man Kirk Lazarus once said on the set of Tropic Thunder, “You never go full retard…”

Let the debate commence… Do you agree with all of my musings?…Some?…or do you think I”m an asshole?…

Either way I love you all and look forward to debating with you…I”d wouldn”t want to Bleed Big Blue with anyone else but you crazy S.O.B.”s.

The post The NY Giants Big Blueprint Part 2 first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

I gotta tell ya….I didn’t see this coming.

I don’t think even the most pessimistic Giants fan could have predicted 0-6, yet here we are.

I purposely did not write about the Thursday night game against the Bears. I was becoming convinced that my friend of over 20 years was right when he would text me, “keep writing jinx…0-5.”

Due to the terribleness of a man named Chris Esserman, I actually believed that “I” may be the reason for this cluster-fuck of a season.

Finally, I get a dream opportunity to write about my beloved Giants and the minute I do, they forget how to win a single game. Make David Wilson my “keeper” in fantasy football and completely ruin his season. I was actually thinking I was in fact Jimmy “the Jinx”.

So I didn’t write a single word leading up to the Bears game. Holding out hope that we find a way to salvage this season, it did not work.

I realized something this week; no matter how superstitious we are, we can’t fix this mess. The troubling part is I don’t know at this point who or what can.

With that being said, I’m watching the game Thursday and at halftime on the NFL Network it is reported that the Giants will give Coach Coughlin the chance to decide his own fate at the end of the season. My jaw dropped.

Now let me say this, ten years ago coach Coughlin was the perfect man to take over for Jim Fassel. The last great hire of the legend Wellington Mara. He was the man Wellington Mara wanted to turn this team around. Coughlin was about discipline, attention to detail, structure and accountability. All things the Giants needed desperately at the time. That time has passed.

I love our coach, and the memories he has helped to provide for the last decade should not be minimized or forgotten anytime soon. He is a Hall Of Famer without a doubt.

But giving Tom Coughlin the power to decide his own fate at seasons end is, for lack of a better term, “going full retard.”

Does Coughlin seem like the type of man that will just walk away??

He will coach this team for another 4-5 five years if ownership lets him and his health permits him to continue. And there are no reports of health being a factor at all. The 67 year old 2 time Super Bowl Champion is probably healthier than most people I know in their 20’s or 30’s.

So I ask you, If not now, when?

Let us assume that this team continues to shit the bed for the next 10 games.

Lets say for argument sake they finish 3-13 or 4-12.

In my eyes this would be the perfect time to move on. It is time for a BIG BLUE makeover, and doing that with the old ball coach manning the sidelines just doesn’t make sense…

The Giants will have to make a plethora of very tough decisions this off season, but a lot of them start with Coughlin.

If the Giants decide to get younger and cleanse themselves of over paid players that are past their primes like, Tuck, Snee, Webster, Jenkins, Diehl, Ross, Kiwi and others, that would mean that the Giants have officially turned the page on the last decade of Giants football and would be starting a new.

Do you really want to rebuild with a 68 year old head coach?

If the Giants were competitive this season and made a run in the play-offs, it would be easier to sign on for one more year with this nucleus and take another shot at it in 2014 with Coughlin at the helm. Considering how bad we look this year though, I am terrified to see what bringing back the same group of players might end up looking like.

I will be diving into this topic much deeper in my next article “In Reese We Trust?”. (Notice the question mark) Keep an eye out for it early next week…

ONE MORE DEEP THOUGHT —

HEY ELI BASHERS….SHHHHHHHH…..SHOW A LITTLE FRIGIN RESPECT!!!

IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE PEOPLE CALLING FOR THE GIANTS TO DRAFT A QUARTERBACK NEXT YEAR, OR TRADE ELI, OR JUST GET RID OF HIM OUTRIGHT — YOU SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO WATCH OR TALK ABOUT FOOTBALL EVER AGAIN.

PLEASE BE QUIET… YOU ARE YAPPING WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT YOU SPEAK OF.

15 INTERCEPTIONS—LETS TAKE A CLOSER LOOK –

MINUS 2 — 2 OF THOSE PICKS ARE OFF TERRIBLE BAD LUCK BOUNCES (DALLAS-OFF SCOTTS ARM – DENVER-OFF DUDES FOOT)

MINUS 6 – GO BACK AND WATCH THE FILM. 6 OF THE 15 INTERCEPTIONS ARE DUE TO WR’S (NICKS 1 TIME AND RANDLE 5 TIMES) RUNNING THE WRONG ROUTE.

MINUS 1 – CRUZ GET THE BALL PUT IN HIS HANDS AND THE BALL IS RIPPED AWAY FROM HIM. HOW IS THAT MANNINGS FAULT?

MINUS 1 –NICKS STOPS RUNINNG ON A SLANT ROUTE AND THE CORNERBACK PICKS IT OFF…

FANTASY PLAYERS I LIKE – WEEK 6 –

QB – Brandon Weeden – The Lions have allowed 613 yards on throws over 15 yards or more this season. If there is one thing Weeden does well is throw the ball downfield. Weeden is a sneaky play this week and can pay huge dividends.

RB — Knowshon Moreno — Playing against the Jags means you fit Moreno in your line up where ever you can.

RB – Darren Sproles – Don’t be fooled and scared off by Pierre Thomas having his best game in years last week. Sproles is still the best back the Saints have and I see him catching at least 8 balls against the Pats this Sunday. Loving me some Sproles this week.

WR – Josh Gordon – see Brandon Weeden.

WR – Pierre Garcon – He has a field day Sunday night in Dallas – another shoot out in Big D.

TE – Garrett Graham – No team in the league has targeted the TE position more than the Texans and with Owen “loves his mama” Daniels out, expect Garrett to get a lot of opportunities moving forward.

PICKS OF THE WEEK –

Giants vs. Cowboys Preview.

The time has come ladies and gentlemen, Football season is upon us. There is no better way, in my

mind, to start the season off than with a Sunday Night Rivalry match between the Cowboys and the GMen at Giants Stadium South. Big Blue have made themselves comfortable in the Lonestar state since Jerry Jones constructed his monstrosity, currently they’re undefeated in the new Cowboys Stadium, a nice 4-0 in high scoring non-stop action affairs. Big Blue has dropped two games against the Cowboys since they constructed their new stadium, including a disheartening season opener last season during which the Giants looked like they didn’t even want to be on the field. Let’s hope for some more fire out of the gates this year.

Giants are struggling with big injuries to some important players. Most recently Andre Brown was knocked out with a fractured leg late in a preseason game at which point he should’ve been a full time rider on the pine pony. Baas and Diehl have been out for a few weeks now and it has definitely been noticeable in the protection the O-Line has given Eli. The secondary has looked suspect at best and hopefully with the appointment of Antrel Rolle as a Captain the CB’s and Safeties will begin to step up and be noticed. David Wilson will need to be a huge spark for the Giants if they hope to get anything going against the Cowgirls, if he doesn’t produce we can certainly expect the defense to start sitting back and waiting for mistakes. One of the guys I’m personally most excited to see play is new acquisition Brandon Myers from the Raiders. The guy was able to rack up 79 catches for 806 yards and 4 TD’s on a perennial early off season team.

The Cowboys are gonna be a very similar team to what the Giants faced in last year’s opener. Demarco Murray will be back in full action, pounding the ball, Romo is going to be throwing picks and TD’s like he always does (he’s always good for 3 TD’s and 300 yards against the Giants) and Dez was probably out getting liquored up last night so who knows what he’ll do. One interesting note is that Morris Clairborne missed all of the preseason with a knee injury and has only seen a few reps with the scout squad, so hopefully he’ll be a little rusty and Nicks will make him look like a fool out there.

As always, there are no easy games for Big Blue. The Cowboys and Giants never fail in having some pretty intense games and I don’t expect this one to be any different. I predict it’s gonna be less than a 4 point spread at the final whistle. The Road to Giants Stadium in February starts tonight. LET’S GO GIANTS!!!!

The post Football Season Is Upon Us first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.
