It was another long afternoon of missed tackles, blown assignments, and zero rhythm on that side of the ball. Let’s break it all down.

The Run Defense Is Becoming a Weekly Problem

San Francisco controlled the game at the line of scrimmage. The Giants gave up 159 rushing yards and never looked close to slowing Christian McCaffrey, who piled up 106 on his own. Every time he touched the ball he found space, either slipping through tackles or catching the Giants out of position. When the other team owns the run game like that, everything else becomes an uphill battle.

The Shane Bowen Situation Is Officially a Crisis

There is no avoiding the truth. The defense has now surrendered more than 30 points in three straight games. What was hyped as a potential top ten unit in August looks unprepared and poorly coordinated in November. The issues are not isolated. They show up in coverage, in the pass rush, in tackling, and in situational football. At this point it is difficult to justify keeping Shane Bowen in charge of this group. The results are not improving and the same mistakes are repeating.

A Few Standouts, but Not Enough to Matter

If there is one player who continues to bring energy every week, it is Brian Burns. He added another sack and forced a fumble, showing once again that he is one of the most explosive defenders on the roster. His production keeps stacking, even though the defense around him continues to flounder.

Dexter Lawrence had a quieter day, which does not help the conversation after his recent comments about respect. The Giants needed a dominant performance up front and did not get it.

Deonte Banks had a rough outing as well. He struggled in space and took a poor angle on the touchdown run where he bounced off the ball carrier. With so many injuries at corner, Banks is being pushed into more snaps than he may be ready for, and the inconsistencies are showing.

Jaxson Dart Continues to Compete

On the positive side, Jaxson Dart continues to fight through adversity. The rookie quarterback tossed three touchdowns and did everything he could to keep the offense alive. He is playing without several key weapons and still manages to create plays and push the ball downfield. You can see his confidence growing even in tough situations.

Theo Johnson needs to clean up the drops. The talent is obvious, but the Giants cannot afford missed opportunities when the receiving group is already depleted.

The Offensive Line Missed Eluemunor

With Jermaine Eluemunor unavailable, Marcus Mbow stepped in and had a difficult day. He is still learning and adjusting to the speed of NFL pass rushers. His struggles showed how valuable Eluemunor has been on the right side. Until everyone is healthy again, the line will continue to be a week-to-week challenge.

Injuries Continue to Shape the Season

The Giants are getting hit everywhere. Wide receiver, linebacker, corner, offensive line. It feels like every position group has been hit with multiple losses. At this rate the team might be pulling people out of Wawa to fill roles. You can only shuffle the deck so many times before it catches up with you.

Graham Gano also missed his first field goal of the year. That miss took the air out of a promising early drive and hurt the Giants’ momentum.

What Comes Next For Big Blue?

With a 2-7 record, reality is setting in. Fans are already eyeing draft positioning and trying to figure out where this season is heading. The trade deadline arrives Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST, and now the question becomes whether Joe Schoen shakes things up or stays quiet.

Either way, the next few days will tell us a lot about the direction the front office wants to take for the rest of the year.

Rep The Team No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue. Their total rushing yards added up to just 76, far below expectations, especially with former Giant Saquon Barkley dominating their defense.

Offensive Line Issues

The Giants’ offensive line held up decently for the first six weeks of the season. However, Andrew Thomas’ injury exposed major weaknesses. Joshua Ezeudu’s performance at left tackle was a significant problem, making it clear he isn’t the answer.

Daniel Jones and QB Concerns

Daniel Jones didn’t have much support, but he also struggled to respond to Philadelphia’s defense. His streak without a touchdown pass at MetLife Stadium continues—now four games into 2024 without a single passing touchdown at home. The streak stretches back to Week 17 of last season.

Drew Lock, who took snaps later, didn’t offer much of a spark. It’s unclear if Brian Daboll will start Lock next week against the Steelers. However, Lock’s uninspiring play gives little reason to believe he’s the solution.

Limited Impact from Malik Nabers

Malik Nabers was active but quiet. After a promising start to the season, he failed to register a catch in the second half, limiting his impact in a critical game.

Defensive Standouts and Setbacks

Dexter Lawrence continues to make his case for Defensive Player of the Year. Despite the team’s struggles, Lawrence has been dominant in 2024. The defense managed five sacks on Jalen Hurts, but the Eagles still racked up 269 rushing yards.

Saquon Barkley had a revenge game for the ages, torching the Giants with 176 rushing yards, a touchdown, and 187 all-purpose yards. The Giants couldn’t contain him throughout the game.

Special Teams and Outlook

Special teams didn’t have much to contribute. With only one field goal made by backup specialists, they couldn’t shift momentum.

At 2-5, the Giants are inching closer to another top draft pick. A win would’ve given them a glimmer of hope, but the lack of offensive production makes it hard to believe this team will turn things around in 2024.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. Here’s a breakdown of the game.

Offensive Struggles Continue.

Daniel Jones now sits at 1-14 in primetime games and 0-2 for 2024. Unfortunately, he continues to fall short under the spotlight.

The interception Jones threw in the red zone was a critical mistake. In that situation, it’s better to take the sack or throw the ball away—anything but turn it over. His decision-making let the team down.

Jones also missed key throws. One painful example was a 4th-and-3 pass targeting Darius Slayton when Wan’Dale Robinson was wide open.

At MetLife Stadium, Jones hasn’t thrown a touchdown since Week 17 of 2022 against the Colts. So far in 2024, he’s thrown 4 interceptions and 0 touchdowns at home.

On a brighter note, Tyrone Tracy had a breakout game. With 50 rushing yards, 57 receiving yards, and his first NFL touchdown, he proved he deserves more snaps. Tracy is making a case to be RB2 and could push for the top spot if Devin Singletary’s fumble issues continue.

Jalin Hyatt finally recorded his first catch of the season, but it was only for six yards on four targets. It’s hard not to wonder if the hype around Hyatt is beginning to fade.

Defensive Highlights.

Azeez Ojulari had a stellar performance with two sacks and constant pressure on Joe Burrow. His presence was felt throughout the game, especially with Kayvon Thibodeaux out.

Brian Burns seems to be finding his rhythm. He notched another sack and brought solid pressure off the edge.

Dexter Lawrence continues to dominate, earning his seventh sack of the season. He commands double teams on nearly every play and is building a strong case for Defensive Player of the Year in 2024.

Special Teams Missteps.

Greg Joseph struggled, missing two field goals after making eight straight. His inconsistency put the team in a tough spot.

Despite the loss, the Giants controlled much of the game, shutting down the Bengals’ offense for long stretches. Missed opportunities cost them a win in a game that was within reach.

Next Up: A Critical Matchup Against the Eagles

The Giants now face a crucial game against the Philadelphia Eagles. This matchup marks Saquon Barkley’s return to MetLife Stadium after leaving in free agency. The Giants need a win to prevent their season from slipping away early.

The last time the Giants hosted the Eagles, they walked away with a victory. Let’s break down the major highlights.

New York Giants Offensive Breakdown.

Daniel Jones’ Resilience.

Daniel Jones delivered a solid performance, especially with his deep throws to Darius Slayton, including two big plays on one scoring drive. Despite an early fumble—caused by stepping on Andrew Thomas’ foot—Jones stayed composed. He bounced back by leading the offense down the field without missing a beat.

Tyrone Tracy Making His Case.

Tyrone Tracy had a breakout game, rushing for 129 yards on 18 carries. His physical style, especially lowering his shoulder on tough runs, stood out. Tracy’s burst through the line was evident, and he clearly outperformed Eric Gray. If Devin Singletary continues fumbling, Tracy could soon challenge for the starting role.

Darius Slayton Shines.

Despite two drops, Slayton had a solid game. His reliability was on display, and he hauled in deep passes that contributed to the win. If the Giants keep winning, it will be tough to trade Slayton, even though his contract is expiring.

Disappointing for Jalin Hyatt.

Jalin Hyatt, however, had a surprising zero-target game. For a second-year player, it’s concerning to see no impact so far this season. I thought this game we would see some flashes given the status of Malik Nabers.

Theo Johnson Stepping Up.

Theo Johnson showed promise as a receiver. His performance was encouraging, and if he can stay consistent, he could become a reliable option in the Giants’ passing game.

Offensive Line Improvements.

The Giants’ offensive line continues to show improvement. Despite Jones being sacked three times, the line has only allowed 12 sacks this season, a huge leap from last year. They also paved the way for 175 rushing yards, a major win for the offense.

New York Giants Defensive Breakdown.

Pass Rush Bringing the Heat.

The Giants’ pass rush dominated, recording seven sacks. Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux both got to Geno Smith, with Burns’ fourth-down sack being especially crucial.

Dexter Lawrence Dominates.

Dexter Lawrence was a game-changer, recording three sacks. His presence in the middle is a massive advantage for the Giants. No surprises here it’s what we expect.

Deonte Banks Solid in Coverage.

Deonte Banks bounced back from a few rough games. He held D.K. Metcalf in check, limiting his impact and helping the defense shut down Seattle’s passing attack.

New York Giants Special Teams Breakdown.

Greg Joseph Dependable as Kicker.

Greg Joseph has become a reliable asset. Since his first game miss, he’s been perfect, hitting 8-for-8 field goals. The Giants don’t need to rush Graham Gano back from injury as long as Joseph stays consistent.

Isaiah Simmons’ Big Play.

Isaiah Simmons delivered a game-saving play, blocking a potential game-tying field goal. Bryce Ford-Wheaton’s return sealed the win, swinging the momentum back to the Giants at the perfect time.

Next Week’s Challenge: Bengals on Sunday Night.

Next week, the Giants face the Bengals in prime time. Joe Burrow and his dynamic receivers, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, will be tough to contain. However, if the Giants play as they did against Seattle, they can pull off another win.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. Now sitting at 1-2, the Giants showed flashes of brilliance, though there are still areas of concern. Let’s break down the key takeaways from this game.

Daniel Jones: A Tale of Two Halves.

Daniel Jones started strong, completing almost all of his first-half passes. He looked sharp and in control, only missing two completions. However, the second half was a different story. Jones threw a few shaky passes that could have easily turned into turnovers. While his overall performance was just okay, he ended the game with a win and will look to build on that against Dallas in their upcoming game.

Giants’ Pass Rush Was on Fire.

One of the most impressive parts of this game was the Giants’ pass rush. They racked up a total of eight sacks against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. Brian Burns had a breakout performance with his first sack of the season and a forced fumble. Kayvon Thibodeaux also made his mark, getting credited for a half sack and blowing up a key quarterback sneak by Jameis Winston. This duo will be key moving forward.

Dexter Lawrence and Malik Nabers Shine.

Dexter Lawrence continues to be a dominant force. He’s proving to be one of the best at his position, consistently disrupting the opposing offense. On the other hand, Malik Nabers is making his case for Offensive Rookie of the Year. His performance today highlighted why head coach Brian Daboll was so eager to draft him.

Concerns About Jalin Hyatt and Deonte Banks.

While the win overshadowed some concerns, they can’t be ignored. Deonte Banks struggled in coverage, and for the third straight game, Jalin Hyatt was held without a catch. He was only targeted once, which has become an alarming trend for the young receiver. It’s something the Giants will need to address as they prepare for the Cowboys.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. He failed to score and had two costly interceptions, including a pick-six. If Jones continues to struggle early this season, Coach Brian Daboll will have to bench him. The boos at MetLife were loud and relentless, beginning early in the game and following Jones as he left the stadium.

Giants Fans Want Change.

Jones’ poor performance, combined with Saquon Barkley’s strong debut for the Eagles, has fans frustrated. Yet, experts remain skeptical. In Pro Football Network’s Top 100 Players for 2024, analyst Dallas Robinson only lists two Giants players: Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns.

Both players are on the defensive side of the ball, with one being a familiar face and the other a new addition to the squad.

19) Dexter Lawrence, DT, New York Giants

Dexter Lawrence ranks at No. 19. He stands out among NFL interior defenders. Lawrence, at 6’4″ and 340 pounds, is a top pass rusher. Finished seventh among interior defenders with 65 pressures in 2023. Most importantly, he achieved this while being double-teamed 71% of the time.

There’s no other NFL player quite like Dexter Lawrence. The Giants acquired him in a trade with Carolina and gave him a five-year, $141 million extension. Burns is a two-time Pro Bowler. He was consistent with the Panthers, recording at least eight sacks and 18 QB hits for four straight years.

The New York Giants added Brian Burns this offseason, giving up a package centered around a second-round draft pick to acquire the pass rusher from the Carolina Panthers.

An athletic marvel, Burns was incredibly consistent for the Panthers, posting at least eight sacks and 18 QB hits in four straight years. Big Blue will blitz less often under new DC Shane Bowen, so they need Burns to help incumbent EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux get after opposing quarterbacks.
Dallas Robinson for Pro Football Network

As mentioned the Giants need Burns to complement Kayvon Thibodeaux under new DC Shane Bowen.
