Here is what went wrong in Week 11.

The post Giants Competitive but Fall Late in Kafka’s Debut first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

A Frustrating Loss That Feels All Too Familiar

The New York Giants dropped another tough one, falling 27 to 20 to the Packers in Week 11. What stings is how familiar this script feels. Once again, the Giants were competitive. Once again, they held a fourth quarter lead. And once again, the defense could not close it out. For a team that has spent the entire year inventing new ways to lose, this one fits right in with the rest of the 2025 season.

Kafka Steps Up, But One Move Still Needs To Happen

Shane Bowen’s Defense Is Fully To Blame

Mike Kafka made some bold calls in his first week as the interim head coach. The offense had life. The team played with energy. But there is one move he still needs to make. It is time to fire Shane Bowen as the defensive coordinator.

The Giants blew yet another fourth quarter lead. Brian Daboll is not here to take the heat anymore. This one is all on Bowen. His defense has failed in every key moment this year. At this point, the only real fix is change at the top. Let Andre Patterson or Marquand Manuel take over the unit for the rest of the season. Kafka needs to make that decision this week.

The Wide Receiver Situation Is A Mess

Jalin Hyatt Continues To Disappoint

I have no idea how the Giants ever talked themselves into Jalin Hyatt. He is just not a good football player right now. The team traded up for him in the third round and has gotten almost nothing in return. And the crazy part is this could have been avoided. Joe Schoen should have swallowed his pride and moved him back in August. Instead, the Giants are stuck with a receiver who cannot produce and cannot be trusted.

Isaiah Hodgins Makes An Immediate Impact

On the flip side, Isaiah Hodgins walked back into the building and outproduced the entire wide receiver room in less than a week. Hodgins should have been signed the day after Malik Nabers went down. He is dependable, he understands the system, and he gives the quarterback a reliable option. It makes you wonder why this move took so long.

Cornerback Help Is Needed Right Now

The Giants absolutely need to bring in free agent cornerbacks for workouts this week. Injuries are piling up, depth is thin, and it is easy to see how opponents continue to pick on the secondary late in games. There is no way they can finish the season with this current group and expect different results.

Jameis Winston Is Exactly Who He Has Always Been

Jameis Winston played like the player we all know. Competitive, aggressive, willing to take chances, and fully capable of throwing touchdowns and interceptions in the same game. Some of his throws easily could have been picked off. He was lucky to finish with only one interception.

But Winston also gave the Giants a real chance to win. When the game is tight, he will always swing. Sometimes it works. Today it did not.

Big Moments From Key Players

Brian Burns Keeps Building His Case

Brian Burns picked up two more sacks and continues to build a serious case for Defensive Player of the Year. His production this season has been one of the few bright spots for this team.

Tyrone Tracy Continues To Impress

Tyrone Tracy put in a strong performance with 88 rushing yards and 139 total yards. He ran hard, fought for extra yards, and kept the offense moving. The Giants should also consider calling up Dante Turbo Miller to add even more juice to the run game.

A Season Full Of Missed Chances

The Giants were competitive but still found a new way to lose. That has been the theme of the entire 2025 season. Every time there is a chance to take control, something breaks down in the final minutes.

It really makes you wonder what this team’s record would look like if the defense had held just a few of these leads. They could easily be sitting in a much different spot right now.

Looking Ahead To Week 12

Mike Kafka will go for his first win as a head coach next week on the road against a strong Lions team. It will not be easy, but he gets another shot.

Draft pick watch continues. Head coach watch continues. And the 2025 season rolls on.

Rep The Team No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue. Summers, who was recently cut by the Detroit Lions, brings a wealth of experience to the Giants’ practice squad, having played in 67 regular-season games with teams like the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Isaiah Hodgins

Miles Boykin

Ty Summers

Lawrence Cager

Jakob Johnson

Joshua Miles

Marcellus Johnson

Tomon Fox

K.J. The game highlighted some significant concerns as the team prepares for the regular season.

DeVito Struggles, but Still Has a Chance.

Tommy DeVito struggled against the Jets’ backups, completing only 14 of 27 passes for 103 yards and getting sacked eight times. Despite these struggles, he led the team in rushing with 48 yards. With Daniel Jones’ injury history and Drew Lock currently sidelined, DeVito could still make the roster. However, if the Giants decide to part ways with him, it wouldn’t be surprising.

Evan Neal’s Rough Return.

Evan Neal’s return from the PUP List didn’t go as planned. Although he started off solid, his performance quickly declined. Neal allowed several sacks, looking like his old self rather than someone ready to reclaim his spot. It seems Jermaine Eluemunor is set to be the Giants’ right tackle going forward.

Bubble Players Face Uncertainty

Isaiah Hodgins’ roster spot is in jeopardy, and after tonight’s performance, it wouldn’t be shocking if he gets cut. The Giants’ defense also struggled with missed tackles, which could lead to many bubble players being released. However, K.J. Cloyd made a strong case for himself with 16 tackles, including eight solo and two for a loss.

Preparing for the Regular Season.

With preseason over, the focus shifts to the regular season opener against the Vikings on September 8th. The Giants will be monitoring waiver cuts and exploring potential trades, with needs at cornerback, backup offensive line, and possibly a young quarterback. Cutdown day is Tuesday, August 27th, when rosters must be trimmed to 53 players by 4 PM EST.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. With established talents like Darius Slayton and the promising Malik Nabers leading the charge, the competition will be fierce. Young players like John Jiles and Ayir Asante face significant challenges but have opportunities to make their mark. As the team navigates this crowded receiver room, the performances during camp will be pivotal in shaping the final roster and the season ahead.

 Subscribe

The post New York Giants Training Camp WR Room 2024 first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">41271</post-id>

Can Giants’ WR Isaiah Hodgins recapture the magic of 2022?

Guest Blogger

New York Giants News

Headline

Isaiah Hodgins

Like the Giants as a team, Hodgins couldn’t duplicate surprising 2022 run…

The post Can Giants’ WR Isaiah Hodgins recapture the magic of 2022? first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

Like the Giants as a team, Hodgins couldn’t duplicate surprising 2022 run last season

Isaiah Hodgins had a star turn when he joined the New York Giants in 2022. In 2023, Hodgins was a bit player who couldn’t re-create the previous season’s magic.

In which direction will Hodgins’ Giants tenure go? Let’s discuss Hodgins as we continue our player-by-player profiles of the Giants’ 90-man roster.

The skinny

Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 200
Opening day age: 25
Position: Wide receiver
Experience: 4
Contract: One-year, $1,035,000 | 2024 cap hit: $1,035,000 | Guaranteed in 2024: $325,000

Career to date

Hodgins was a sixth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2020. He couldn’t crack the loaded Bills’ wide receiver rotation, though, and caught only four passes in three games before Buffalo waived him in the middle of the 2022 season.

The Giants, in desperate need of wide receiver help, jumped at the opportunity. GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll knew Hodgins well from their time in Buffalo. They claimed him and Hodgins paid immediate dividends.

In eight games (five starts), Hodgins caught 33 passes for 351 yards (10.6 yards per catch) and four touchdowns. In the Giants’ playoff victory over the Minnesota Vikings, Hodgins starred with eight receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Hodgins was unable to build on that success in 2023. He lost playing time to third-round pick Jalin Hyatt, and ended up with just 21 receptions for 230 yards (11.0 yards per catch) and three touchdowns.

2024 outlook

At first glance, Hodgins looks like WR5 on the Giants’ depth chart behind first-round pick Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson and Hyatt.

If Hodgins is that, though, could he actually end up fighting to maintain his spot on the 53-man roster?

Hodgins can’t help on special teams, having played only three special teams snaps in his career. Could that put him at a disadvantage in a fight for a roster spot with players like Gunner Olszewski and Isaiah McKenzie, who are experienced kick returners? Could Hodgins lose his job to veteran Allen Robinson? Could a young receiver like Ayir Asante or Bryce Ford-Wheaton, who could have special teams roles, pass him by?

Hodgins’ 2022 heroics are still fresh in the minds of Giants’ fans. They won’t, though, guarantee him anything in 2024.

The post Can Giants’ WR Isaiah Hodgins recapture the magic of 2022? first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">37677</post-id>
