New York Giants Training Camp WR Room 2024

The 2024 NFL season is approaching, and Giants fans are building excitement. Training camp will kick off on July 24th for the veteran players. Let’s take a look at the Giants’ wide receiver room as the team heads into training camp.

Malik Nabers

The Giants picked Malik Nabers sixth overall in this year’s NFL draft from LSU, a well-known wide receiver factory. They hope he can follow in the footsteps of Tiger stars like Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and former Giant Odell Beckham Jr., and become a difference maker.

Wan’Dale Robinson

After a rookie year shortened by injury, Wan’Dale Robinson showed Giants fans his versatile skills. Robinson was second on the team in targets last season with 78, catching 60 passes for 525 yards and one touchdown. With Nabers as a legitimate outside presence, Robinson has an opportunity to thrive.

Jalin Hyatt

In his final season at Tennessee, Hyatt finished second in the NCAA with 15 touchdown catches. However, as an NFL rookie, he did not reach the end zone. Entering his second year, he seems hungry to break that scoreless slump. Consistent QB play should benefit Hyatt and hopefully earn him extra targets.

Darius Slayton

The Giants had to rework Darius Slayton’s contract this offseason and offer him some additional incentives. His rapport with quarterback Daniel Jones and his veteran presence are needed with a young wide receiver group.

After compiling 50 catches for 774 yards and four touchdowns last season in an offense that struggled badly, the additional help of drafting Nabers was necessary.

Isaiah Hodgins

The 6-foot-3 Hodgins signed a one-year, $1 million contract to return to the Giants in 2024.
Although free agency did not go his way, the Giants chose not to tender Hodgins, a restricted free agent, at the start of the new league year. The tender would have cost them $3 million, but now they have him back at a much cheaper deal.

Following a solid debut in 2022, Hodgins’ performance dipped last season with just 21 receptions and 3 touchdowns. Now, he’s looking to regain his footing.

Allen Robinson

The Giants signed Allen Robinson this offseason, adding him to an already crowded wide receiver group. Robinson is coming off a disappointing season with the Steelers, which led to his release. The 30-year-old Robinson will need to bounce back, but he is firmly on the roster bubble.

Isaiah McKenzie

Isaiah McKenzie, a free agent acquisition, spent last season with Indianapolis after previous stints in Denver and Buffalo. He is well-acquainted with Coach Daboll’s offense, brings versatility playing wide receiver and kick returner.

Gunner Olszewski

The Giants also re-signed Olszewski this offseason. Previously a special teams presence with the Patriots and Steelers, Olszewski returned a punt for a touchdown as a Giant last season, although he didn’t catch a pass in 10 games. Despite this, he has been a regular NFL returner for five seasons and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2020.

Miles Boykin

Boykin is entering his sixth NFL season, having spent the last two years with the Steelers. While he doesn’t contribute significantly to the passing game, he excels on special teams and in coverage.

Bryce Ford-Wheaton

Bryce Ford-Wheaton tore his ACL late last August, cutting his season short before it could begin. It was particularly disappointing as he had been impressing in camp and was expected to contribute on special teams. Now on the road to recovery from his serious knee injury, Ford-Wheaton will be striving for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Dennis Houston

Houston signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent before the 2022 season. He played in two games, catching two passes for 16 yards. After being waived by the Cowboys at the end of the 2023 training camp, the Giants added him to their practice squad. He spent the entire season there and was subsequently given a reserve/futures contract for the 2024 90-man roster.

John Jiles, a 6-foot-2, 219-pound undrafted free agent from West Florida, will get his NFL chance. With a crowded wide receiver room full of young talent, he’ll need to stand out on special teams to secure a spot on the team.

Ayir Asante, a 6-foot, 178-pound native of Franklin Township, faces a tough challenge. With a crowded receiver room on the Giants roster, it will be difficult for any rookie, except Malik Nabers, to secure a role. However, if he shows promise during camp, he might earn a spot on the practice squad.

In summary, the 2024 New York Giants training camp promises to be a crucial period for the wide receiver group. With established talents like Darius Slayton and the promising Malik Nabers leading the charge, the competition will be fierce. Young players like John Jiles and Ayir Asante face significant challenges but have opportunities to make their mark. As the team navigates this crowded receiver room, the performances during camp will be pivotal in shaping the final roster and the season ahead.
