Another Questionable Move by the Front Office

The New York Giants re-signed Jude McAtamney to their practice squad less than 24 hours after cutting him, and to be honest, it’s frustrating. McAtamney missed two extra points in last Sunday’s one-point loss to the Broncos. Those mistakes directly cost the team a win, yet he’s already back in the building.

Most of us watching this team every week can’t make sense of it. McAtamney hasn’t shown he’s anywhere near NFL caliber. Bringing him back feels like a step backward for a roster that desperately needs stability at kicker.

The International Pathway Exemption

Technically, this move works because McAtamney is part of the NFL’s International Pathway Program, meaning he doesn’t count toward the standard 16-player practice squad limit. It’s a free roster slot, but that doesn’t make it a smart move. Just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should.

It’s one thing to stash a developmental player, but it’s another to keep a kicker who helped lose a winnable game. The optics are rough, and frustration around this decision is completely justified.

No Named Starter Yet

As of now, there’s still no official starting kicker. Graham Gano is practicing again but hasn’t been fully cleared. Signs point to him returning soon, but his injury history has become a real problem.

When your kicker can’t finish games, everything unravels. This isn’t new, either—mid-game injuries at the position have burned the Giants before, forcing awkward game plans and lost points. The patience with Gano’s health is wearing thin, and understandably so.

A Push for Koo

Younghoe Koo hasn’t been called up to the active roster, but judging by the buzz across social media, many believe he deserves a shot. He’s experienced, steady, and proven under pressure—exactly what this team lacks right now.

The Giants didn’t bring in any new kickers for workouts this week, which suggests they’ll stick with the current group. But that “wait and see” approach isn’t exactly comforting after multiple late-game collapses tied to special teams mistakes.

This Is About Trust

New York’s kicking situation has reached a breaking point. Confidence in the unit is gone. Trust has to be earned, and no one in this rotation has earned it yet.

McAtamney’s return feels like a move made out of convenience rather than conviction. He simply shouldn’t be in consideration for meaningful snaps. It’s time for the organization to stop circling the same drain and find a real, long-term answer.

What Comes Next

If Gano is cleared, he’ll likely reclaim the job, but durability remains a serious concern. The front office can’t afford to get blindsided by another injury setback.

That’s why Koo should be next in line. He’s been through the grind, delivered in clutch moments, and would bring a level of stability this group hasn’t had in a long time.

A Collapse That Should Cost Shane Bowen His Job What just happened…

The post Giants Collapse Late in Painful 33-32 Loss to Broncos first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

A Collapse That Should Cost Shane Bowen His Job

What just happened in Denver? The New York Giants went from up 19-0 to giving up 33 points in the fourth quarter. That kind of collapse is unacceptable. Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen should be on the hot seat after this one. It’s now the second time this season the Giants had a lead late in the fourth quarter and still managed to lose. This one might sting the most because it felt like they finally had the game in hand.

Defensively, it was chaos. Missed tackles, blown assignments, and zero discipline in crunch time. That all falls back on Bowen’s defense. It doesn’t matter how much talent you have on the field if you can’t execute when it counts.

Jaxson Dart Deserved Better

We should have been talking about Jaxson Dart’s breakout moment — a four-touchdown performance that should have included a game-winner with under a minute left. Instead, we’re left shaking our heads after the defense gave the game away. Dart continues to show flashes of being the future franchise quarterback. His arm talent, decision-making, and grit under pressure have all been impressive.

If the defense could simply close out a game, we’d be celebrating Dart’s leadership and poise instead of reliving another painful loss.

Cam Skattebo Keeps Impressing

Rookie running back Cam Skattebo continues to shine. He finished with nearly 100 total yards of offense — 60 on the ground and 34 through the air — plus a touchdown catch. Skattebo runs angry and brings the kind of energy that lifts the entire offense. Each week, he’s proving that his physicality and versatility make him a key piece for the future.

Tight Ends Step Up Big

Without a true No. 1 wide receiver, the Giants leaned heavily on their tight ends, and it paid off. Theo Johnson and Daniel Bellinger combined for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Bellinger looked like the player we saw back in 2022 before his injury — a steady target who can move the chains and make clutch catches.

That production from the tight ends kept the offense balanced and gave Dart the outlets he needed against a tough Denver defense.

Defensive Bright Spots

Not everything on defense was awful. Brian Burns continues his monster season with two more sacks, bringing his total to nine. He’s been everything the Giants hoped for when they traded for him. Dane Belton also filled in nicely for Jevon Holland and played with solid awareness in coverage.

But that’s where the good news ends. Deonte Banks has struggled all year, and at this point, it might be time to explore a trade. The tackling overall was atrocious, and that kind of sloppy play is what fuels these fourth-quarter collapses.

Kicking Woes Continue

Jude McAtamney’s inconsistency has become a real issue. You can’t have a kicker that leaves points on the board or shakes your confidence in crunch time. Whether it’s bringing in a proven veteran like Younghoe Koo or exploring other options, the Giants need to address this immediately.

Still Fighting, But Not Finishing

The Giants should have left Denver at 3-4. Realistically, if not for their defense collapsing late in two games, they could be sitting at 4-3. Instead, they’re now searching for answers and a way to rebound.

This loss feels worse than the Week 2 defeat to the Cowboys. It’s one thing to lose to a better team — it’s another to hand a game away after dominating for three quarters.

To their credit, the Giants are still fighting and playing meaningful football. That’s progress, even if it’s not the kind we want to see. Fans want wins, but there’s something to be said for a young team that refuses to quit.

Looking Ahead to Philadelphia

The Giants went from dominating the defending champions just 10 days ago to blowing a game they had in control. That kind of inconsistency is maddening. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that they get another shot at redemption next week against the Eagles.

They need to take this loss personally and come out swinging. Channel that frustration, fix the defensive mistakes, and make a statement. Otherwise, another late-game collapse could quickly send this season spiraling.

Final Thoughts

This one hurts — badly. The Giants had it. They played well enough to win but let it slip through their fingers. Now it’s about how they respond.

They have the talent. They have the quarterback. They just need to learn how to finish.

Matter What!

What Greg Joseph’s Signing Means for the New York Giants’ Roster.

The New York Giants are shaking things up by adding veteran kicker Greg Joseph to their active roster. Joseph is joining from the Detroit Lions’ practice squad, as confirmed by his agent, Brett Tessler. This move could have a significant impact on the team’s special teams.

Graham Gano, the Giants’ primary kicker, was recently placed on the injured reserve list due to a leg injury. This injury has left a void in the Giants’ special teams unit, prompting the team to explore other options.

Joseph Brings Experience and Records to the Giants.

Joseph is no stranger to high-pressure situations. With seven years of experience in the NFL, he has spent the last three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. In that time, he made history with five game-winning field goals in a single season, a record in the NFL.

Joseph also set the Vikings’ record for the longest field goal, a 61-yard monster, and led the league in touchback percentage in 2021. His leg strength and experience make him a valuable addition to the Giants’ roster.

A Possible Kicking Competition Looms.

Despite Joseph’s impressive resume, special teams coordinator Michael Ghobrial hinted at a potential competition. Rookie kicker Jude McAtamney, currently on the practice squad, may get a shot at the job. Ghobrial noted, “It’s going to be good competition.”

However, going with an unproven rookie like McAtamney could backfire if he struggles. If McAtamney gets the nod and fails, it would likely spark criticism toward the Giants’ personnel decisions, especially with Joseph’s proven track record available.

Ultimately, Sunday’s game could provide some clarity on who takes the reins as the team’s kicker.

The New York Giants have finalized most of their practice squad, bringing back familiar faces from training camp.

There’s one new addition to the mix—linebacker Ty Summers. Summers, who was recently cut by the Detroit Lions, brings a wealth of experience to the Giants’ practice squad, having played in 67 regular-season games with teams like the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

K.J. Cloyd

Dante Miller

Casey Rogers

Raheem Layne

Alex Johnson

Jimmy Morrissey

Jude McAtamney

With two practice squad spots still open, the Giants have room to make additional moves. Safety Gervarrius Owens, recently waived, is a strong candidate to fill one of those vacancies.

New York Giants Training Camp Special Teams 2024

The 2024 NFL season is approaching, and Giants fans are building excitement. Training camp will kicked off on July 24th for the veteran players. Let’s take a look at the Giants’ special teams group as the team heads into training camp & preseason.

Graham Gano

Veteran kicker Graham Gano missed the second half of the 2023 season due to a left knee injury that required surgery. The 37-year-old’s injury was to his plant leg, not his kicking leg.

Since joining the Giants in 2020, Gano had been making over 90 percent of his field goal attempts, but last year he went just 11-of-17.

Gano seems ready for training camp, though the Giants have brought in additional kickers as a precaution.

Jude McAtamney

Rookie kicker Jude McAtamney, who has an international roster exemption due to his Irish roots, is aiming to help ease the kicking load for the recovering Graham Gano.

In 2022, McAtamney made 23 of 24 extra points and 12 of 18 field goals for the Scarlet Knights. He was primarily used as a kickoff specialist by Rutgers in 2023, aside from one missed attempt.

Given his international status, the Giants received an exemption for McAtamney, making it likely he’ll spend this season on the practice squad, honing his skills.

Jamie Gillan

Jamie Gillan had his best season yet in 2023, and the left-footed “Scottish Hammer” is looking to build on that success.

Gillan averaged 46.0 yards per punt last season, including a career-long 74-yard punt. He also posted a career-best 42.2 net yards per punt. Only 4.2% of his 95 punts resulted in touchbacks, a career-low, and 36.8% of his punts were downed inside the opponents’ 20-yard line, his best mark since his rookie season.

Casey Kreiter

Kreiter wrapped up his fourth season with the Giants in 2023, following four seasons with the Denver Broncos. The most notable aspect of Kreiter’s performance—and the greatest compliment to his work—is that he has remained virtually unnoticed during his time with the Giants.

There’s every reason to expect he’ll keep performing his duties with the same quiet efficiency.
