It was another long afternoon of missed tackles, blown assignments, and zero rhythm on that side of the ball. Let’s break it all down.

The Run Defense Is Becoming a Weekly Problem

San Francisco controlled the game at the line of scrimmage. The Giants gave up 159 rushing yards and never looked close to slowing Christian McCaffrey, who piled up 106 on his own. Every time he touched the ball he found space, either slipping through tackles or catching the Giants out of position. When the other team owns the run game like that, everything else becomes an uphill battle.

The Shane Bowen Situation Is Officially a Crisis

There is no avoiding the truth. The defense has now surrendered more than 30 points in three straight games. What was hyped as a potential top ten unit in August looks unprepared and poorly coordinated in November. The issues are not isolated. They show up in coverage, in the pass rush, in tackling, and in situational football. At this point it is difficult to justify keeping Shane Bowen in charge of this group. The results are not improving and the same mistakes are repeating.

A Few Standouts, but Not Enough to Matter

If there is one player who continues to bring energy every week, it is Brian Burns. He added another sack and forced a fumble, showing once again that he is one of the most explosive defenders on the roster. His production keeps stacking, even though the defense around him continues to flounder.

Dexter Lawrence had a quieter day, which does not help the conversation after his recent comments about respect. The Giants needed a dominant performance up front and did not get it.

Deonte Banks had a rough outing as well. He struggled in space and took a poor angle on the touchdown run where he bounced off the ball carrier. With so many injuries at corner, Banks is being pushed into more snaps than he may be ready for, and the inconsistencies are showing.

Jaxson Dart Continues to Compete

On the positive side, Jaxson Dart continues to fight through adversity. The rookie quarterback tossed three touchdowns and did everything he could to keep the offense alive. He is playing without several key weapons and still manages to create plays and push the ball downfield. You can see his confidence growing even in tough situations.

Theo Johnson needs to clean up the drops. The talent is obvious, but the Giants cannot afford missed opportunities when the receiving group is already depleted.

The Offensive Line Missed Eluemunor

With Jermaine Eluemunor unavailable, Marcus Mbow stepped in and had a difficult day. He is still learning and adjusting to the speed of NFL pass rushers. His struggles showed how valuable Eluemunor has been on the right side. Until everyone is healthy again, the line will continue to be a week-to-week challenge.

Injuries Continue to Shape the Season

The Giants are getting hit everywhere. Wide receiver, linebacker, corner, offensive line. It feels like every position group has been hit with multiple losses. At this rate the team might be pulling people out of Wawa to fill roles. You can only shuffle the deck so many times before it catches up with you.

Graham Gano also missed his first field goal of the year. That miss took the air out of a promising early drive and hurt the Giants’ momentum.

What Comes Next For Big Blue?

With a 2-7 record, reality is setting in. Fans are already eyeing draft positioning and trying to figure out where this season is heading. The trade deadline arrives Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST, and now the question becomes whether Joe Schoen shakes things up or stays quiet.

Either way, the next few days will tell us a lot about the direction the front office wants to take for the rest of the year.

Rep The Team No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue. As always, the key is perspective, this isn’t full-speed football, but it’s still a chance to get a feel for who’s prepared and who stands out. While no one’s winning a job in May, it’s better to look sharp than not.

Day 1: Sunshine, Energy, and Early Buzz.

The Giants opened camp under clear skies and comfortable temperatures, the perfect setting to kick things off on Friday. Players worked through individual drills, with some light team work mixed in to help ease the transition to the NFL.

Dart Embraces the Moment.

First-round pick Jaxson Dart participated in drills and showed good command and energy. “It’s been surreal,” Dart said after practice. “Being out here, wearing this jersey, it’s an amazing privilege.” He looked comfortable for a rookie quarterback and already carries himself like a leader.

Abdul Carter Shows Off Versatility.

Third overall pick Abdul Carter drew plenty of attention on Day 1. Lining up in different spots, Carter showed exactly why the Giants were drawn to his rare blend of speed and strength. Before the draft, outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen told Carter, “You can win on the edge, beat guards, beat centers — you’ve got to learn all five spots.” Carter’s response? “You can add more if you want.”

When asked Friday if he was serious, Carter smiled: “I don’t know about all 11, but line me up at fullback or tight end. I can block and catch, too.” Carter’s athleticism and attitude jumped out, and while it’s just minicamp, you can see the potential.

Skattebo and Tracy: A Potential Pairing.

Running backs Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. might be an interesting combo. When asked about a possible “thunder and lightning” role, Skattebo didn’t shy away. “He might be a little faster than me,” he said of Tracy. “But whatever our roles are, I’m just going to work.”

Day 2: Rain Moves Practice Indoors.

Saturday’s session was moved inside due to rainy weather, but the team still managed a productive second practice. Coach Brian Daboll met with reporters before players hit the field, and several rookies spoke afterward.

Daboll Praises Dart’s Preparation.

Coach Daboll was impressed with Dart’s approach. “He was prepared,” Daboll said. “He’s doing walkthroughs at the hotel, meeting with players, staying on top of the little things. That’s what matters at quarterback.”

Mbow Ready for Anything.

Offensive lineman Marcus Mbow said he’s been working at every position up front. “I’ll probably be moving everywhere,” he said. “It’s day two. We’ll see where it goes from here.” His flexibility and mindset fit the team’s philosophy well.

Fidone Embracing the Journey.

Tight end Thomas Fidone II said his college injuries helped shape his mindset. “I wouldn’t take them back,” he said. “They made me who I am mentally and physically. I trained harder and came back better.”

Korie Black Focused on Growth.

Cornerback Korie Black brings solid experience from Oklahoma State, and he’s eager to learn. “They got experience, so they can really guide me,” he said of the veteran DBs. “I’m just ready to learn and work.”

Final Thoughts.

Rookie minicamp is a starting point, not a stage for sweeping conclusions. Still, when a player looks locked in, listens well, and carries himself like a pro, it’s worth noting. That was the case for several Giants this weekend. Now comes the next step: earning their place when the vets return.

🛍️ Rep the Team, No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue. With the 154th pick, they selected Purdue’s Marcus Mbow, a 6-foot-4, 303-pound lineman who brings valuable experience and versatility.

Mbow spent four seasons at Purdue, appearing in 36 games with 32 starts between right guard and right tackle. His strong play earned him Second Team Freshman All-America honors in 2022 and three straight All-Big Ten Honorable Mentions from 2022 to 2024.

Although many expected him to be drafted earlier, Mbow found himself waiting longer than anticipated. He had gathered with family and friends for a draft party Friday night, but the third and fourth rounds came and went without his name being called. That setback only adds to the chip on his shoulder as he heads to the NFL.

Familiar Face for the Giants.

The Giants are already familiar with Mbow. They hosted him on a Top 30 visit and watched him closely during the Senior Bowl. Even more interesting, he once blocked for one of their own — running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who was a Giants draft pick last year. The two were teammates at Purdue in 2022 and 2023, creating a natural connection heading into training camp.

Opportunity to Compete Right Away.

The Giants have talked about moving Evan Neal to guard this season, opening the door for Mbow to battle for a role on the right side. His top competition will be veteran Greg Van Roten, who re-signed in free agency. With his background and drive, Mbow will have every chance to make an early impact.

🛍️ Rep the Team, No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue.
