When healthy, Amukamara proved that he can be a top cornerback in the league, but availability continues to be the primary concern. Missing 25 out of 80 games might be costly in the open marketplace. Amukamara spoke openly Sirius XM Radio

“I feel like I’ve put out on film that when I’m on the field, I can definitely play and play as good as anybody,” Amukamara said. “But . . . I do have that injury bug or whatever attached to me. But I think my film, like I said is great enough to put me in a position to be one of the top corners to be picked up.”

Rumors began to circulate that Amukamara was looking for $10 million per year, placing him in the top tier for cornerback salaries. These rumors have died down of late.

The Giants General Manager Jerry Reese has over $55 million to use this off season, and may choose to move in another direction because of the strong options at cornerback.

Panthers Josh Norman, Rams Janoris Jenkins & Bengals Leon Hall all could hit free agancy unless they are marked with their respected teams franchise tag.

“I do hope to be back,” Amukamara said during an interview on Sirius XM Radio. “I feel like the organization is a great fit for me, and I do feel like they have expressed an interest. … From what coach (Ben) McAdoo is saying, it looks like they’re going to build a great team. So I’m excited about that.”

Only time will tell how this would play out. The truth be told Big Blue led the NFL in players on injured reserve 20 and “man games lost” xover 100. Besides turnovers probably the last statistic a team wants to lead the league. The “big black & blue” were down big players for long stretches of time.

The “past is prologue”- and there are five Giants players to keep your eyes on big time for Big Blue to be big time in 2015. Victor Cruz, Jon Beason, Robert Ayers, Geoff Schwartz and Prince Amukamara, these guys are starters, game changers and veterans that the Giants expected to be big in 2014 and need going forward.

At the top of the list Victor Cruz, we all know what he can do for the Giants-change a season with 99 yard catch and run (run Forest run) against the Jets. Salsa his way to the end zone and keep the chains moving. Seriously he is an 80 receptions and 1,000 yard receiver yearly. When he tore his knee up in Philly the Giants were 3-2…they would not win another game for over a month. Until “OBJ” would emerge- coincidence…I think not. Considering Cruz’s injury don’t expect him to be himself until game 8 in 2015. It takes these guys one calendar year to truly recover…see All-Star John Tavares of the Islanders. But the visual of Cruz and OBJ on opposite sides has to be giving Big D, the Skins and the Birds nightmares.

Jon Beason could be the “beast of the east” for the defense and Steve Spagnoulo. When this guy is healthy he is an absolute stopper in the middle. He can simply man up and guarantee 100 plus tackles a season. However, he just seems to be a constant member of the “tub club”. He needs a big 2015 season because he not getting younger and Giants will not wait much longer. Look for the Giants to draft a middle linebacker in the mid to late rounds of the draft in April.

Robert Ayers – credit to Jerry Reese for signing the hometown boy (Jersey City) last offseason. In 5 seasons Ayers is just coming into his prime and has shown tremendous consistency. He is the exactly the kind of defensive lineman a team like the Giant’s needs. He was just getting going when he went down against Jacksonville (the worst loss of the season). Ayers had pushed his way to 5 sacks in 12 games on a poor defense. Look for a big, big year in 2015.

Geoff Schwartz– such a disappointing season- brought in as free-agent in 2014 by Jerry Reese to be a big and I mean big lineman (6 foot 6, 340 pounds) and give Eli time…none of that happened. The Giants are his fourth team in 6 seasons previously with Carolina, Minnesota and Kansas City. All summer and first 10 games of the season fought injury problems. Finally got back in the line-up for two games and yet again was put on IR after the Jags game with an “ankle/tendon injury”. Needs a full season on the field – or will be his last in big city.

Prince Amukamara-the secondary was supposed to be the big strength for the Giants defense but it crashed and burned. Prince was having a solid season when he went down in week eight with 37 solo tackles, 3 interceptions and 11 blocked passes. This guy is the closest thing the Giants have to a “shut down” corner. I really like this guy a lot and so does Antrel Rolle. He is not afraid to tackle and never seems to be out of position. Look for Prince and the Revolution in the secondary next year!

Prediction time– Super Bowl Seattle 31- Patriots 28. The triple B’s “deflated” their own season. Besides Marshawn Lynch will be MVP with over 100 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

Big Blue defense will rank in the top 1/3 in 2015…somewhere between 12th and 8th…wih Steve Spagnoulo as defensive coordinator.

All stats courtesy of Giants.com, NJ.com and Fox.com

The post Five Giants Players To Keep Your Eyes On first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">3766</post-id>

Giants Fans Did You Give Up Already?

tmerritt51

New York Giants Game Recap

New York Giants News

Eli Manning

Headline

Prince Amukamara

Giants Fans Did You Give Up Already? I know we as New York fans like to overreact and yes I know they looked like garbage but (let me make this bold / underlined) IT’S THE FIRST GAME.

I remember plenty of times where the Giants started out not looking so good or they just played horrible for a stretch but some of those times ended up in Super Bowls runs. Just for clarification, in no way am I saying this is a Super Bowl team but I am not willing to completely write them off yet. I hope the people reading this are true fans and not willing to “burn jerseys” or give up your fanhood for the team because of one game.

I am trying to stay positive people and yes I was swearing at the TV watching the game just like all of you because I understand the feeling that happened from a fans perspective. It was like waking up Christmas morning after being all pumped for the special toy that you have been waiting months to get and when you open the box, you find a big pile of shit.

But after I had time to calm down and think about it. I saw some positives. (I know what you are thinking what is this asshole thinking)

Here is my positive takes from this game: (other than it ended)

1. The Defense played better than people think. The Giants had a run defense for those who watched last year that is a step in the right direction. Some of the secondary played well but I will talk about that more, later in this blog.

2. I feel they will take advantage more of what Eli strives in. Again for the people that have watched Eli throughout his career, he plays well in no huddle, rushed offense where he just plays and doesn’t think, hence all the 4th quarter comebacks he has had in his career. (I hope the guy burning his jersey forgot how many games Eli has won for the Giants not just the Super Bowls)

3. Experience with one another. We know this team has gotten thrown together and they have to learn to play with one another so they will get better and hopefully reach their potential as a team.

4. It was only one game but I also got to see the first games the rest of the division played. The Eagles had to make a comeback against the Jaguars to pull it out and they were lucky to do so. (Chad Henne was starting for the Jags lol). The Redskins were dominated by the team that had the first pick in the draft this year. (RG III might not finish the season as the starter) The Cowboys looked to be an absolute mess. MY POINT THE GIANTS ARE NOT OUT OF IT.

Now I will talk about the negatives because they cannot be denied:
1. The OL needs A LOT of work and I am hoping with experience they will get better but I am thinking that this will be another focus come this next draft. All I ask don’t make Eli run for his life every game. I will give them the benefit of the doubt because they played one of the best DL in the league.

2. Any WR make a play please. Victor Cruz worry about catching the ball instead of how many targets you had thrown your way. WRs get open, catch the ball and I know this is crazy look for the ball early since Eli is running for his life.

3. The Pass Rush was horrible not only were you not getting in but also when you had a shot you made Mathew Stafford look like he was Barry Sanders. Get it together.

3 Giant Stars of the game

1. Prince Amukamara: He had a good game and going by that game if I had to choose who should of followed Calvin Johnson around it would have been him.
2. Jamal McClain: I chose him because it seemed he was on the field the most making plays and helping shut down the run but the all the linebackers played pretty well.
3. Larry Donnell: Other than one play where we know he messed up even though Eli took the blame. He caught what was thrown towards him but I was hoping he would not have to gotten targeted as much as he was.

3 small efforts of the game

1. DRC: Giants did not pay you to play like that. Giants paid you to be a shut down corner. I will give him the benefit of the doubt because it was Calvin Johnson and maybe, just maybe he should have been doubled. (Call me crazy)
2. William Beatty: Please stop proving to the Giants why they shouldn’t of paid you anything, not to mention you were overpaid anyways. But he hasn’t had many practices so lets hope he gets up to speed soon.
3. Victor Cruz: You are our number one WR now, so please act like one you don’t have to make every catch but how about the ones that hit you in the hands. (Am I asking too much) But please get mad because you weren’t targeted enough. Make plays.

So we all had to go through a tough Monday night football game but it was their home opener and they are a team with tons of talent on it, they just have to put it together. (I was talking about the Lions) Maybe at the end of the year we will look back at the game and we lost to a really good team. What I am happy about is the Giants got the wake-up call that they needed early. Now we will see what kind of team we have, they will either fold (if that happens lets blow up this team and do a complete rebuild) or they will rise to the occasion and we will be witness to another Tom Coughlin turnaround, further proving the great coach that he is.

Lets give them a chance and keep rooting for our New York Giants.

I don’t have a choice and I Bleed Big Blue. Do you?

(This is for the people in the Bleed Big Blue fantasy league I am 1-0 , Come Get Some)

The post Giants Fans Did You Give Up Already? first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">2984</post-id>

5 New York Giants Ready To Break Out 2014

Jon

New York Giants News

Off Season

Damontre Moore

Jerrel Jernigan

Prince Amukamara

Rashad Jennings

Reuben Randle

[tps_header] 5 New York Giants Ready To Break Out 2014 [/tps_header] [tps_title]Prince Amukamara[/tps_title]…

The post 5 New York Giants Ready To Break Out 2014 first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

[tps_header] 5 New York Giants Ready To Break Out 2014 [/tps_header]

[tps_title]Prince Amukamara[/tps_title]

As voluntary workouts begin, it is back to work for many NFL players. The Giants are one of nineteen teams to hold voluntary workouts, and with these workouts we commence a new year of hope and promise for Big Blue. With many new faces, the team surely looks very different on paper than the team that lost its first six games of last year. The Giants went out this offseason and acquired numerous free agents, most notably CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and RB Rashad Jennings. Along with these fresh faces to join New York, there is still a core nucleus of players who have been with big blue for years and with some entering the prime of their careers. Over the past few seasons, the fans have witnessed the emergence of many young Giants, such as Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre Paul in 2011, and Stevie Brown in 2012. This year, there are several young players who have flashed signs of prominence and are slated to break out into stardom Here are 5 New York Giants ready to break out 2014.

Prince Amukamara– Heading into his fourth season out of Nebraska, the first round pick in 2011 has become one of the better cover-corners in the game. He has increased his number of tackles per season by over 30 each season (including leading all corners with 76 tackles in 2013), as well as more than doubled the number of passes defended each season. He forced two fumbles last season, and has avoided injuries for the most part since breaking his foot in 2011, playing in all 16 games last season. Although he only has one interception per season, his pass-defending skills and coverage ability make up for his lack of picks. His constant seasonal improvement and overall health make him a prime candidate to breakout and become a premier corner in 2014.

The post 5 New York Giants Ready To Break Out 2014 first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">1942</post-id>
