This past Sunday they defeat the Detroit Lions 17-6.

Well how did Eli Do?
Manning started 11 for 11, the best start of his career before finishing the game 20/28 for 201 yards. He also added 2 touchdowns one to Sterling Shepard, and to Odell Beckham Jr. Manning ended with a final QB rating of 115.3.

Sunday also marked Justin Pugh’s return.
It was strongly felt he could help the rushing game. Carries were split between Paul Perkins, Shane Vereen and Rashad Jennings for a total 114 yards. Jennings and Perkins both had 25 carries to Vereen’s 14.

And what about Odell Beckham?
Odell was targeted 8 times for 6 receptions netting 64 yards. To cap it off he added a clutch one handed (left) catch for the game winning touchdown.

Detroit Lions are now 9-5 after the loss to the New York Giants in rainy conditions at MetLife Stadium. The G-Men kept the Lions rushing game under check only allowing 56 yards on the ground, and 268 yard in the air.

The Giants held Matthew Stafford and company to a game with no touchdowns on the board, Something the Giants have done to opponents on 18 straight drives prior coming into the game. With a 10-4 record late in the season the Giants are looking for a play-off spot for the first time since 2011.

“New York Giants Take Down The Detroit Lions 17-6” was written by Guest blogger Troy Fraser Please leave feedback in the comment field below, I would love to know what you think.

The post New York Giants Take Down The Detroit Lions 17-6 first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">7684</post-id>

Giants Shane Vereen looking to return

Marco Ceo

New York Giants News

Headline

Shane Vereen

Giants Shane Vereen looking to return. The New England Patriots are playing some excellent ball right now. With that being said the Giants can keep up with any team. For this weeks preview we asked patriotsgab.com (twitter.com – PatriotsGab) to help break down this match up.

For The Pats

A Different Tom Brady.

Remember when Ryan Clark said Tom Brady sees Ghosts in the pocket? No team made Brady see more ghosts than the New York Giants did the past three games which is why they won. Tom Brady no longer sees ghosts in the pocket at the ripe age of 38. He can move around in the pocket much better now than he did when he was younger and he’s more accurate throwing on the run than he ever has been. You can hit him, you can pressure him, and even get five sacks in one half against him, but you won’t rock him anymore.

The Giants are one-dimensional.

The Giants, who beaten the Patriots three times in a row could run the ball, but not the 2015 Giants. They’ve struggled to run the ball this season and if they can’t get that going against the Patriots on Sunday, they could be in a world of trouble. That will allow the Patriots to focus solely on stopping the pass and pressuring Eli Manning. Expect to see a good mix of blitzes from the Patriots on Sunday because without an effective running game to back the defense off, they will pin their ears back. Of course, the Pats still have to get pressure on Eli because if they don’t, they will be vulnerable in the secondary. This Giants team can pass the ball, and they have many weapons for the defense to stop, which means they have to pressure and get home more times than not or this could be a shootout. The Giants have a top 15 passing offense and the Patriots have a top 15 passing defense, so this matchup should be fun, but still a one-dimensional offense favors the Patriots defense.

The Patriots offense is loaded.

The Patriots have no shortage of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Edelman, Gronk, Amendola, and LaFell are all lethal, and the Pats have a run game in LeGarrette Blount and a capable pass-catcher in RB Brandon Bolden. This group will be going against one of the worst ranked passing defenses, and a 19th rank rush defense. The numbers on paper don’t favor the Giants defense at all, even though the game isn’t on paper, the eye test doesn’t look much better for the Giants against the Patriots offense either. If they can’t get to Tom Brady all four quarters, they won’t stop the offense and the Patriots will win.

For The G-Men

The New JPP D-Line

For the bulk of this season we have had minimal pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers we saw what life would be like with JPP back in the lineup. While his stat line did not look good, he was important because he made Jamies Winston feel uncomfortable in the pocket. The Patriots are shuffling the offensive lineup to help protect Tom Brady as they have given up 18 sacks this year. If the Giants plans to upset one way is to get to Tom Brady. Keep an eye up for JPP and Robert Ayers to cause some confusion.

Time of position

Numbers can be deceiving, looking at the Giants running statistics they are in the bottom half of the NFL. I would argue a nice portion of the Giants passing plays are quick passes to Shane Vereen and Rashad Jennings in the backfeild where they extended the play. While the Giants do not possess the “Bell Cow” running back they do have 4 fresh legged backs who share the work load. Using the four backs will keep the ball in our hands and out of Tom Brady’s.

No backing down.

The majority of the time the Patroits win the game even before it starts. Other teams may play scared or timid, not the Giants. This is not the case with Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin leading the charge. This victory finds the Giants in first place in the NFC East with a 3-2 record.

Eli Manning is proud that the Giants are doing the things they need to do in order to win ballgames, especially late in the fourth quarter.

I am proud of the way that we fought. I am proud of the way that we didn’t get down, didn’t get frustrated and we wanted to change it. We were committed to fixing it, we knew what we had to do — we were playing well, we were doing good things, we were getting games in the fourth quarter, we had to play better in the fourth quarter. We had to play our best football at those times and these last three weeks we have been able to do that. We have been able to finish games and that is what you have to do in this league — you have to be able to finish games and play your best football at the end.

The highlight of the night came with 21 seconds remaining in the game when Eli Manning threw a perfectly placed ball to tight end Larry Donnell for the score.

Once I had it, I had to hold that thing. You know, the game was on the line and I had to make a play. Donnell recalls.

The Giants received major contributions from both Odell Beckham Jr. and Shane Vereen. Beckham racked up 7 receptions for 121 yards and a TD score and ended up tweaking his prior hamstring injury forcing him to sit out several series in the fourth quarter.

Beckham insisted on re-entering the game, for the final few plays, He was key in drawing a pass interference call setting up the Giants with a 1st down deep in the Niners territory.

It’s just one of those things. It seems like we’re always counted out. Things don’t always go our way. In the past we’ve made these mistakes. They say history is doomed to repeat itself and it was just great to see this team and the fans just light the stadium up. [The fans] lit the stadium up and they gave us the energy we needed to be able to go down there and score the winning touchdown. Said Beckham.

Shane Vereen was blending well into the game causing many miss matches in the running and passing attack. Vareen totaled 5 carries / 24 yards and 8 receptions for 86 yards with a touchdown. Knowing that this game was a big win.

Absolutely. Absolutely. A game like this, I think, is huge. Momentum wise, however, you know, it’s only Week 5. We’ve still have eleven games to go. We’ve got a long way to go. We’ve got to get a lot better on offense. Good thing we got this win. Let’s move forward to next week.

Next week is a big divisional game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Lets all hope the Giants can extend their winning streak to four games.

The post Giants Win With Last Second Heroics first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">4741</post-id>

Giants Vs. 49ers Preview

Marco Ceo

New York Giants Game Preview

New York Giants News

State Your Case

Andre Williams

Headline

Rashad Jennings

Shane Vereen

Spags

Giants vs. 49ers Preview San Francisco is coming into town this Sunday…

The post Giants Vs. 49ers Preview first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

Giants vs. 49ers Preview

San Francisco is coming into town this Sunday for another prime time event. This game will certainly show us what type of team the Giants are. Will this be a classic trap game or will the Giants continue to defeat opponents that they are expected to. Helping us break down this matchup is Peter Panacy, he is the co-editor of NinerNoise.com his opinion is that the Niners might squeak away with a win.

For the Niners.

If the 49ers Defense Replicates Its Week 4 Effort.
Holding quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers to 17 points is no easy feat. San Francisco’s defense did a solid job of creating pressure, and a lot of that came from second-year linebacker Aaron Lynch. The 49ers’ questionable secondary did well in limiting Rodgers’ receivers as well. The coverage was pretty good all around. The Giants run a similar West Coast offense, as pointed out by safety Eric Reid on KNBR 680, so the 49ers defense should have some continuity here in its efforts to limit quarterback Eli Manning, wide receiver Odell Beckham and a dangerous New York offense.

If the 49ers Win the Battle Up Front.

San Francisco’s offensive line has been atrocious this season, and especially along the right side. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick is on pace to surpass the 52 sacks taken in 2014. New York’s run defense is No. 1 in the league, so the 49ers might not have the best shot to establish a strong running attack. But the Giants pass rush isn’t exactly stellar, so the 49ers O-line may get a little breathing room when it comes to protecting its quarterback. On the flip side, the 49ers defensive front will need to impose its will against a Giants O-line currently doing a great job of protecting Manning.

If Colin Kaepernick Can Take Advantage of New York’s Pass Defense.

The Giants are dead last in the league in total yards allowed through the air with 1,265 yards allowed. Kaepernick’s 2015 efforts have been abysmal. And the 49ers quarterback could be losing his receiver corps. But a permeable secondary, combined with a questionable Giants pass rush, presents the opportunity for Kaepernick and the aerial attack to post some big numbers. The Giants do clamp down in the red zone though, so a big X-factor will be whether or not the 49ers can find paydirt within the 20-yard line.

For the Giants
Defensive stops & improving play.
Under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Giants have steadily improved over the first four games. Essential to this improvement has been their focus on stopping the run. Currently the Gmen hold the No. 1 rushing defense (69.8 yards allowed per game), including some clutch goal line stances.

The Giants will look to bottle up San Francisco’s running game and prevent Colin Kaepernick from making big runs outside the pocket.

Running Back Mix.

Distributing the carries between Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen, and Andre Williams has proven to be a good strategy. The Giants running backs have remained fresh with the split workload. Against the bills the Giants rushed for 92 yards in 28 attempts. Both Jennings and Vereen have proved pivotal in the passing attack as witnessed by Jennings 50 yard catch and run for a score last Sunday. The Giants will look to dial up both inside and outside running plays just to keep the wounded Niners defense honest.

O-Line Protecting Eli & Creating Lanes.

What was once seen as a weakness has proven many doubters wrong. The O-Line has played as a cohesive unit with multiple players pitching in. Eli Manning has dropped back 150 times this year and only saw pressure on 32 plays. Left Tackle & 1st Round pick Ereck Flowers looks ready to go for Sunday night.

Giants will search for help sealing the edge now that TE Dainel Fells was placed on the IR with an ankle infection. Fells primarily played on running downs, but the Giants expect the same effort from the remaining players to help the O-Line.

Summary
Even though the their record reflects 2-2 the Gmen have shown up to every game and play hard. Minus the two fourth quarter miscues The Giants have been in the driver seat of all their games. Let’s hope we get a loud MetLife stadium, & a big blue win.

The post Giants Vs. 49ers Preview first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">4707</post-id>

Giants Vs Bills Breakdown

Marco Ceo

New York Giants Game Preview

New York Giants News

State Your Case

Eli Manning

Headline

Justin Pugh

Odell Beckham Jr

Shane Vereen

Giants Vs Bills Breakdown Much is written about the New York Giants…

The post Giants Vs Bills Breakdown first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

Giants Vs Bills Breakdown

Much is written about the New York Giants this year. This team could easily be 3-0, but in reality this team could also be 0-3. I’ve asked our friends at billsdaily (@billsdaily) to help dissect this team match up in the season.

For the Giants

1. O-Line holds together

The Giants o-line shows signs of gluing together. The recent youth movement is gaining confidence and experience as multiple players have stepped up their game. Justin Pugh continues to play multiple positions well. His versatility was noticed stepping into left tackle last week in Ereck Flowers absence. Flowers should be ready to return this week only helping the Giants run game support.

2. Eli Manning playing smart and quick.

Head coach Tom Coughlin is well aware of the Rex Ryan’s defense they will face the Sunday.

“They’re good, they’re physical, they’ve got good size, they can rush the passer, they can defend the run, the linebacker corps has done an outstanding job, the middle ‘backer had two interceptions the other day, one for a touchdown. That’s a pretty good day’s work,” Coughlin said.

Expect Eli to get the ball out of his hands quickly with short receiving routes. Mixing it up between Odell Beckham and Shane Vereen should keep Bills defense off-balance and open up longer shots down the field.

3. Force Tyrod Taylor to make tough decisions.

Taylor has played well his first three games shown the ability to throw the deep ball and create plays outside of the pocket. Losing both Sammy Watkins and LaShawn McCoy (both listed as doubtful) Will make Taylor lean on less reliable options. The Giants defense has done well, causing some key turnovers. Mid game changes in coverage and schemes could confuse Taylor into being less careless with the ball.

For The Bills

The Bills are coming off a confidence building road win against division rival Miami and they feel they can play with any team in the league. Even though they only play the Giants once every four years they have not fared well against them. The game is in Orchard Park where the Bills have a significant homefield advantage. If they do these three things that will help them get their second straight victory.

1. If Tyrod Taylor continues to play like he has so far this season.

Tyrod Taylor has far exceeded expectations so far in his first three career starts. He is the only NFL QB to rank in the top five in completion percentage (74.4%), yards per attempt (9.15) and touchdown passes with 7. They are the third ranked scoring offense and lead the league in big plays with 17 20+ yard plays. If they have similar success against a Giants defense that ranks dead last in pass defense they can build a lead and allow the defense to do what it does best and tee off on Eli Manning.

2. If they make Manning uncomfortable

Eli Manning is tough to sack so they may not bring him down that often but they need to get pressure and make him uncomfortable in the pocket. If the offense continues to hum along than the defense will be able to be aggressive and tee of. They need to confuse Manning with the unbalanced blitzes coming from all angles. That can pressure him into making mistakes that can give the Bills the advantage in this game.

3. If they get out to an early lead.

That will allow the crowd to stay very loud which will make communication tough for Manning. That along with pressure will diffuse the impact the Giants talented receiving corps will have on the game especially with the possibility of Victor Cruz coming back to the lineup.

Closing

This is going to be considered a tough game for the G-Men. Vegas placed us a six point underdogs. We usually thrive in the underdog roll. Don’t be surprised if the Giants pull the win for 2-2. The front seven (especially the d-line) do not get to the quarterback.

No matter the situation they lack push. Too often Cousins had 5-7 seconds to complete passes. (They performed better against the run.) The Redskins are not one of the better offenses in the NFL and they were able to make 3rd down conversions and complete long pass plays.

2. The running game continues to be in slow motion with Jennings.

He fails to get holes quickly. Regularly if you watch close he dances and stutter steps. He had one nice run but that does not make up for another poor performance overall. Vereen is a better running back period. Vereen is their best option. Andre Williams also put forth a solid effort and can tough to take down. Nice touchdown run for him in the 1st quarter.

3. Defensive backs played well.

They blocked passes, interceptions, and made numerous tackles in the open field. Which brings me back to point number one. The de- backs are making too many tackles which means the front 7 are getting pushed around and not making tackles. This is not a good trend.

4. Randle got the memo

Whether it was Parker being released, maybe a conversation with Eli during the short week or studying the playbook. Ruben Randle had a nice game. Highlighted by his touchdown late in the game to put the cherry on tonight’s victory. Gave Eli another option.

5. Eli Manning

He takes a lot of the heat when the team plays poorly. He gets a lot of the credit when they win-deservedly so. This guy was so solid it was scary. He makes the plays. The issues we saw the last two weeks -were not present.

The Good
Odell Beckham Jr. Enough said.

The Bad
The kickoff returned for a touchdown.

The Ugly
Dropped passes by Larry Donnel. Unless it is in his stomach he does not catch the ball.

Please leave a comment below!

The post Giants Beat Washington 32-21 first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">4598</post-id>
