The Offense Loses Its Rhythm Without Him

You can feel the entire energy of the offense shift the moment Jaxson Dart steps on the field. Everything moves with purpose and confidence. Once he left with a concussion, that rhythm evaporated. Russell Wilson came in and the offense simply stalled. Drives drifted instead of building. Momentum leaked away like air from a tire.

Dart is the engine. He makes this entire offense function. I don’t even care about the wins and losses anymore. I just hope Dart is okay, because he is the future. I laid out a blueprint for how I thought this game would play out, and I hate to pat myself on the back, but it happened almost exactly as expected once he was forced out.

The hope now is that Dart clears protocol quickly. Missing even one game shifts the entire direction of the offense. If he cannot go, Russell Wilson should not be the automatic next man up. Jameis Winston gives the team a better chance to actually move the football.

Slayton and Johnson Step Up

Flashes of Production, But Not Enough

Darius Slayton came out strong with a productive first half, but he disappeared after the break. One catch in the second half is simply not enough, especially with Dart sidelined and the team desperate for someone to make a play.

Theo Johnson delivered a promising performance with 7 catches for 75 yards. When he settles in he becomes a real threat. His size and athleticism create mismatches, and this was another step forward. Consistency remains the hurdle.

The Turning Point That Changed Everything

The fumble forced by C.J. Gardner Johnson on Dart felt like the one moment where the entire game bent out of shape. If the Giants score on that possession, it becomes a three score lead. Chicago would have been forced into desperation mode far earlier. Instead, the ball popped loose, the Bears found life, and the Giants never regained control.

Defense Brings Heat, But Cannot Finish

Caleb Williams Escapes Again and Again

The defense spent the entire afternoon in Caleb Williams’ face. They had him corralled five or six times. They got hands on him. They had angles. Yet he slipped out of everything. His elusiveness was a major reason he was the top pick in last year’s draft and the Giants saw it up close.

The unit continues to struggle closing the deal. Pressure without sacks eventually becomes exhaustion. Missed tackles pile up. Running lanes open. The pattern has become familiar.

Deonte Banks Continues to Struggle

Deonte Banks is having a tough season and this game did nothing to change the narrative. He wiped away what would have been Abdul Carter’s first full sack and added more penalties to a growing pile. With Paulson Adebo out, the cornerback room is stretched thin and Banks is not helping the situation.

Special Teams and Coaching Concerns

Younghoe Koo at least looked like a professional kicker on the field. If Graham Gano needs more time to get fully healthy, Koo should continue to get his opportunities.

Then there is the coaching, which continues to weigh down this team. The blown leads, the repeated breakdowns, the same issues every week, it all points toward a staff struggling to get this team to finish games. Shane Bowen’s defense cannot hold leads. Missed tackles, poor angles, blown coverages, all of it keeps showing up on repeat.

Brian Daboll’s early success feels far away now. Once upon a time, this team finished games. Now they lose them in the same ways every week. It is a troubling pattern and it is fair to question where this is all going.

Draft Watch Is Back

The season has slipped into familiar territory. The draft watch is fully alive again, and it is only Week 10. The Giants have their quarterback, but they need help everywhere else. Until they learn how to finish, these losses will keep stacking up.

Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen should be on the hot seat after this one. It’s now the second time this season the Giants had a lead late in the fourth quarter and still managed to lose. This one might sting the most because it felt like they finally had the game in hand.

Defensively, it was chaos. Missed tackles, blown assignments, and zero discipline in crunch time. That all falls back on Bowen’s defense. It doesn’t matter how much talent you have on the field if you can’t execute when it counts.

Jaxson Dart Deserved Better

We should have been talking about Jaxson Dart’s breakout moment — a four-touchdown performance that should have included a game-winner with under a minute left. Instead, we’re left shaking our heads after the defense gave the game away. Dart continues to show flashes of being the future franchise quarterback. His arm talent, decision-making, and grit under pressure have all been impressive.

If the defense could simply close out a game, we’d be celebrating Dart’s leadership and poise instead of reliving another painful loss.

Cam Skattebo Keeps Impressing

Rookie running back Cam Skattebo continues to shine. He finished with nearly 100 total yards of offense — 60 on the ground and 34 through the air — plus a touchdown catch. Skattebo runs angry and brings the kind of energy that lifts the entire offense. Each week, he’s proving that his physicality and versatility make him a key piece for the future.

Tight Ends Step Up Big

Without a true No. 1 wide receiver, the Giants leaned heavily on their tight ends, and it paid off. Theo Johnson and Daniel Bellinger combined for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Bellinger looked like the player we saw back in 2022 before his injury — a steady target who can move the chains and make clutch catches.

That production from the tight ends kept the offense balanced and gave Dart the outlets he needed against a tough Denver defense.

Defensive Bright Spots

Not everything on defense was awful. Brian Burns continues his monster season with two more sacks, bringing his total to nine. He’s been everything the Giants hoped for when they traded for him. Dane Belton also filled in nicely for Jevon Holland and played with solid awareness in coverage.

He seems like a great teammate and a likable guy, but the inconsistency is exhausting. Giants fans have seen this movie too many times.

Tight end Theo Johnson was one of the few bright spots. He caught both of Dart’s touchdown passes and played with real confidence throughout the game. I’ll admit, I’ve doubted him in the past — he’s had some tough drops in big spots — but this time he came through.

Johnson’s size and red-zone awareness give the Giants a legit weapon. He and Dart are developing chemistry that could pay off if they keep building on it. For once, he looked like someone who wanted the moment, not someone hoping it wouldn’t find him.

Skattebo Keeps Fighting

Cam Skattebo continues to be a heartbeat on offense. He finished with 59 rushing yards and 45 receiving, fighting for every yard. The rookie never stops moving forward, even when the blocking isn’t there. His toughness stands out every week, and honestly, he’s one of the few players who looks angry about losing.

He’s the kind of player this team should be building around — physical, relentless, and dependable.

The Defense Held Up, Until It Couldn’t

The defense started fine, but that’s not enough anymore. With Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux, this front should be dominating games. Instead, they go quiet for long stretches. The pressure isn’t consistent, and the Saints’ offense looked far too comfortable.

And Deonte Banks continues to be a problem. His penalties are keeping offensive drives alive week after week, often in the worst possible moments. The physicality is there, but the discipline isn’t. These are the kinds of plays that flip games, and it’s fair to question why he’s still in on critical downs when he’s struggling to stay composed.

Roster Management and Coaching Questions

IAt some point, this comes back to leadership. Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen built this roster, and while there’s young talent here, the wins just aren’t following.

Game-day roster management has been questionable more than once. Whether it’s the wrong players inactive, poor in-game adjustments, or uneven snap counts, something is off. I like both Daboll and Schoen, but it’s hard to keep defending the results. They haven’t shown they can turn this around, and it’s starting to feel like we’re nearing the end for both.

Looking Ahead to Philadelphia

The Giants don’t have time to sulk. The Philadelphia Eagles are up next on Thursday night, and right now, they’re the complete opposite of what New York has been — efficient, consistent, and confident.

If the Giants want to show they still have some fight left, it has to start with discipline. Protect the football, avoid the back-breaking mistakes, and play with urgency. If not, this could get ugly fast.

The talent is there. The execution isn’t. And that’s what separates the contenders from the teams that just keep finding new ways to lose.

Theo Johnson

Theo Johnson, the rookie tight end from Penn State, will start his first season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. The Giants announced this on Tuesday when rookies reported to training camp.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Johnson is expected to contribute to the offense. However, the team has not disclosed any details about his physical status or the reason for placing him on the PUP list.

Lawrence Cager

Stoll was another free agent signing from the Eagles. He has appeared in 50 regular-season games, starting 26 of them as a blocking tight end. Over three seasons, Stoll has recorded 20 receptions across 1,343 offensive snaps.

His chances of making the Giants’ 53-man roster might depend on whether the team favors him over Manhertz. It’s difficult to envision the Giants retaining both players.

Tyree Jackson

Jackson, formerly the starting quarterback for the University of Buffalo, was once projected as a first-round pick in NFL.com’s mock drafts.

The transition from quarterback to tight end has been made before, but Jackson’s 2023 season was quiet. After being cut by the Eagles during final roster reductions in late August, the Giants quickly added him to their practice squad. Jackson appeared in Weeks 10 and 11 against the Cowboys and Commanders but did not record any stats.

Final thoughts

Overall, the New York Giants’ tight end group is in a state of flux, and they have brought in a few veterans to strengthen the position. There may be some camp battles for the final 53-man roster spots.

Johnson’s injury is unknown, but he can return to the roster anytime after passing a physical.
