Tom Brady’s been here before. The Golden Boy makes his 7th Super Bowl, and is seeking his 5th ring. Matt Ryan’s new to this stage, his 2017 MVP-esque effort unquestionably his career apex.

Evil genius Bill Belicheck has made a career on shutting down his opponent’s primary offensive weapons. What makes the Falcons dangerous is the multitude of skill players they’ve placed around Julio Jones. Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman are the most dynamic backfield duo in the league; Taylor Gabriel can blow the top off any defense, and Mohamed Sanu and Austin Hooper are consistently productive while moving the chains. Belicheck has stymied explosive offenses in the past (just ask Jim Kelly about Super Bowl XXV), but can he duplicate that performance 26 years later?

Dan Quinn has catapulted the Falcons defense into one of the fastest units in the NFL. Can Vic Beasley and Dwight Freeney pressure Brady off the edges, and prevent him from exploiting the middle of the field with drag and crossing routes that will showcase the quickness of Edelman, Amendola, and Hogan? During Super Bowl XXV, Belicheck collaborated with Parcells on a game plan that would feature Ottis Anderson as the workhouse back, racking up 40 minutes in time-of-possession, silencing the Bills’ Run-and-Shoot offense simply by not allowing them on the field. LeGarrette Blount is a bruising power back, who’s style is mirrors that of Super Bowl XXV’s MVP. Will Belicheck ride Blount to victory, neutering the Falcons offense in the process?

Odds have the Patriots with the slight edge, but, as Giants fans we have seen that story before.

Matt Ryan’s magical season seems destined to end in confetti, and a Lombardi Trophy, unlike Cam Newton’s last season. Brady’s a formidable foe motivated by a desire to force his mortal enemy Roger Goodell to hand him the Super Bowl MVP. Eli Manning’s not on the opposing sideline, so Tom Terrific’s got to be confident. Time will tell.

The post The Golden Boy makes his 7th Super Bowl first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">7842</post-id>

Odell Beckham Jr. Is Superman

Justin Van Wyen

New York Giants News

Headline

Jeremy Shockey

Odell Beckham Jr

Tom Brady

Odell Beckham Jr. Is Superman. A New York Giants fan trapped in the land of Patriots. I spent a decent portion of my weekend shouting “Go Eli!” or “18-1!” as pedestrians passed me by in their Brady shirtzees. It was a big weekend for Bostonians. Their prodigal son was returning home, his first game at Foxborough since he had been suspended for improperly deflating footballs.

The streets were full of Brady supporters, exuberantly celebrating the return of Trump’s BFF. Tom Terrific is their fearless leader. He provides their path to victory. They love him.

I sat down for some gelato with my wife and scoured my phone for an update on my team.

4:13 pm: Score 23-20 Ravens 4th & 1 from the Giants 34-yard line. I look up to my wife, to share with her the looming prospect of another forsaken opportunity.

4:14 pm: Still waiting for the app to update with the results on the play, a text comes through from my Mom. It simply reads, “Odell!!!!!”

I immediately start clapping and hollering. I already know what the app would take another minute to tell me.

Odell Beckham Jr. is Superman.

Later that evening, I’d see the highlight. I’d hear the sound of MetLife Stadium erupting as soon as OBJ hauled in that slant, much less took it 66-yards to the house. The home crowd knew: Odell Beckham had put his cape on.

As a displaced Giants fan in the heart of Eagles country, when people want to talk Gmen they come to me. Due to my geography, the locals are a lot bolder when we’re losing, or when they want to rib me about something. The first questions I got accustomed to answering were on “Bad Boy” Jeremy Shockey. Inquiring minds always wanted to know how I could root for someone so brash? Didn’t I hate when he would celebrate a single catch, or when he would shout at the top of his lungs at a teammate?

I was never shy about my appreciation for Shockey. I’m a New Yorker in my heart of hearts. I love emotion, I thrive off it. I understood Shockey. I had met him at an event in my early 20s. He couldn’t have been nicer to me and my family, signing a jersey, and taking 5 minutes to chat with us. I’ll be a fan of Shockey’s for life.

The next popular question had to do with Eli Manning. Didn’t I ever wish he was Peyton? What’s it like to root for the creator of the Eli Face? The younger Manning’s clutch gene was always recognizable, and once his championship pedigree displayed itself, those discussions became elementary. Two titles with Eli is something Eagles’ fans covet beyond measure.

When Plaxico Burress shot a hole in his thigh while we were 11-1 in 2008, and well on our way to back-to back Super Bowl rings, everyone laughed at our misfortune. While Plax’s stupidity is undeniable, and the anger and disappointment I felt toward him for ruining our shot at history is real, Plax definitely was paying for his self-inflicted wound. I certainly won’t pile on, beyond to say I hope he thinks it was worth it.

Today, when I tell people I’m a Giants fan, Odell Beckham questions aren’t far behind. People want to know if I think he’s overemotional? Too in-love with fame? Is he dating a Kardashian? What if leaves The Giants for Los Angeles when he’s a free agent? Then the 2016 season started.

OBJ’s season started out respectable enough. The Giants won two games, albeit while Beckham was quiet by his own standards. The Josh Norman rematch was quite the firework show. Filled with tears, sideline outbursts, and battles with kicking nets that sparked so many Mortal Kombat memes, I felt like the Flux Capacitor and Doc Brown had transported me back to 1995. When the dust settled, OBJ had 7 catches for 121 yards. #13 proved that he can only be stopped by #13.

Back-to-back embarrassing losses to Minnesota and Green Bay, which saw OBJ collect personal foul penalties, wax poetic about how he wished he was having more fun, and collect his first garbage time touchdown were next. All the media could talk about was how OBJ might be a distraction, more trouble than he’s worth. Rookie head coach Ben McAdoo even gave the media few soundbites about the distraction that is Beckham, before saying that he and the franchise have their star’s back in an interview with the wonder that is Francesca.

After his game-winning, season-saving, soul-stealing performance Sunday (detailed above), OBJ removed his helmet on the field (despite being out-of-bounds) and sprinted back to the kicking net for a mock proposal, cementing a 15-yard penalty that did not prevent the Giants from winning.

More questions. When will OBJ mature? His antics WILL cost this team one day, are the Giants and their fans at peace with that? Is he aware that he’s driving that kicking net joke into the ground? (Ok, my wife asked that one, and thinks he totally is)

My answer to those questions is simple. Did you watch the game Sunday? It is glaringly obvious that if Odell Beckham hadn’t put his cape on, we probably wouldn’t have a season to worry about. The truth of the matter is that without Odell Beckham Jr, we’d probably be 0-6. I remember what 2013 felt like. 0-6 is not fun. (Coincidentally, it did get us OBJ, but that’s a different discussion)

OBJ is our offense. The running game has been non-existent since Week 2. Eli’s looked jittery at times, and has appeared to be disconnected with his receivers not named OBJ. The reason we beat the Ravens Sunday is because Odell Beckham is a playmaker. He’s a superhuman talent, the likes of which we’ve seen once before. Just like Lawrence Taylor could change the result of a game by winning on one down, Odell Beckham can do the same. As long as he maintains that level of talent, and holds our chances to win in his hands on weekly basis, we’ve got to buckle-up and enjoy the ride.

If the national media wants to discuss Odell’s potential as a distraction, let’s talk about it. Are we supposed to believe that the emotion that Odell Beckham plays with, the emotion rooted in his desire to win, and succeed at the highest level, is a distraction? Can we give our 2-time Super Bowl MVP the benefit of the doubt in being able to handle the personalities of his teammates?

This season has been a frustration for Odell. Sunday was a great release. And I’m supposed to be concerned Odell wants to hug a kicking net? The kicker who uses that net is an admitted spousal abuser. That’s the distraction! OBJ plays with the joy, fervor, and kinetic energy that I want in players that I root for. He got caught up in a moment. That’s ok with me. It’s likeable.

After the game Odell deflected credit to Eli Manning saying, “First of all, Eli changed the play. He had a play on and saw some different coverages that you can’t mess with. He changed the play and put me in a perfect position to run a slant. I catch it and see one safety angling to the right. I know that for someone to be able to open their hips and run at the same time to run me down, they’re going to be very fast. I went left and it all worked out.”

Odell Beckham is worth rooting for. He plays the game in a way that is easy to relate to. He isn’t afraid to be transparent, and to be who he is. He’s a New York Football Giant. He is our guy. His talent is unique and complete. He can single handedly erase errors from the likes of Larry Donnell who inexplicably step out of bounds 1-yard short of the sticks rather than turn the ball upfield. In the process he saved our season.

Tom Brady returned home to the loyalty and support of an appreciative fan base. Loyalty and support he richly deserves. The Giants fan base should offer the same levels of love and appreciation for Odell Beckham. He is one in a long line of Giants we can be proud is part of our historic franchise.

The post Odell Beckham Jr. Is Superman first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">7339</post-id>

Sterling Shepard, Leon Hall, & Other Loose Ends

James Doino

New York Giants Daily Recap

Training Camp

Headline

leon hall

Sterling Shepard

Tom Brady

Sterling Shepard, Leon Hall, & Other Loose Ends. We will be covering our New York Giants, division and league rivals, fantasy opinions and other random shit.

Enjoy…

Hall Pass:

Today the New York Giants signed cornerback, Leon Hall, 31, a 10th year veteran of the Cincinnati Bengals. Halls’ career numbers are, 26 interceptions, including three for touchdowns, 111 passes defended, and 365 tackles in his career – all with Cincy.

Deep Thought:

Great move by Reese to provide veteran experience in the slot to team with Jenkins and DRC. If Hall can stay healthy, the Giants secondary just got a whole lot more serious, and that pass rush a whole lot scarier.

Polished Sterling Silver:

Something’s are just meant to be pondered forever. The meaning of life, death, a woman’s bipolar tendencies. All mysteries that men will ponder until the end of days. Well add another question to the list. How the hell did Sterling Shepard drop to the 2nd round? I will never comprehend how this happened.

Deep Thought:

They are raving about this kid so far in camp. Polished routes, stellar hands and a real student of the game. Jerry Reese, who has been ridiculed in the past for a lot of draft choices, will be lauded for picking this kid sooner rather than later.

We Talking ‘Bout Practice?:

Where in the world is Allen Iverson when you need him? How I wish I can just post that moment from Iverson’s now infamous press conference when I see a fellow Giants fans posting shit about Josh Norman getting torched by his teammates, WR’s Desean Jackson and Pierre Garson. Or how about all the G-Men fans laughing at Dez Bryant of the Cowboys, dropping multiple passes at practice.

Deep Thought:

Shhhhhhh. Now is that shit funny? Hell yeah it is. Hysterical, even. But let’s focus a little and use our Big Blue brains. It’s practice. No matter how you feel about Norman or Dez, denying their talent is admitting your lack of knowledge about the game of football itself. Is Norman a pure man to man corner? No. He is dependent on a scheme to bring out his talents. Talents that are not going to be on display in one on ones in August. Same with Dez. We have seen him too many times make plays under the lights, when the games count. These two are competitors, and no matter how bad they look in August, we will get their best in September.

Stupid Simms:

New York Giants legend Phil Simms has a son Chris, who has lost his damn mind.

Deep Thought:

Did Chris Simms really say Tom Brady, who just turned 39, is not a top five QB? What the fuck games is this cat watching? And I can’t get a gig with Bleacher Report? Listen, my man crush on Tommy is well-documented. I am a tad bias, but I am always a tad bias when it comes to defending great players, for any team. I mean if Brady isn’t a top five QB who the hell is? I’m not delusional, at 39 the window for Brady is closing, but besides Aaron Rodgers, who the hell else would you want leading your squad. To deny Brady’s greatness, no matter his age or your personal opinion of the man, is asinine. I fully expect a pissed off Tommy to serve his suspension, come back like a bat out of hell, win the division and flirt with another chance at a Super Bowl. Sorry Chris next time pass the dutchie to the left hand side.

Sweet, Sweet Fantasy Baby:

With the return of the NFL, comes the return of OUR leagues as well. It is time for fantasy football. Get your draft boards ready. Start writing new material to destroy your friends on the league page. Get the ball rolling on draft day trade rapes, keepers and all out torture for the sorry douche that finishes last. Most wonderful time of the year! Deep Thought: There will be another article for sleepers, predictions etc…for now I will give ya inside look at my draft board. Top 10 players on my board, for PPR or Non-PPR. No QB’s make the list.

1. Antonio Brown, WR, Steelers.

2. Adrian Peterson, RB, Vikings.

3. Todd Gurley, RB, Rams.

4. Julio Jones, WR, Falcons.

5. Le’veon Bell, RB, Steelers.

6. Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Giants.

7. Ezekiel Elliot, RB, Cowboys.

8. David Johnson, RB, Cardinals.

9. Doug Martin, RB, Buccaneers.

10. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Texans.

Til another day peeps….Keep on keeping on.

The post Sterling Shepard, Leon Hall, & Other Loose Ends first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">6717</post-id>

Championship Sunday Breakdown

ReinAllDay

NFL News

Peyton Manning

Tom Brady

AFC Championship Game This game was the better of the two games…

The post Championship Sunday Breakdown first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

AFC Championship Game

This game was the better of the two games played this weekend. It was close throughout the entire game. The battle of the aging veteran in Peyton Manning versus still very elite Tom Brady. Defense was a major factor in this game, the Patriots offensive line seemed to have no answer for Von Miller and Demarcus Ware coming off the edge. They repeatedly got to Brady disrupting multiple passes and keeping him on the ground for the majority of the game. But the Broncos gave Brady the ball with under two minutes to try to and do what he does best, win. On a forth and four he hits a double covered Rob Gronkowski in the back of the end-zone. The pending two point conversion would send the game into over-time, but Brady’s pass gets tipped and intercepted by the Broncos and that’s all she wrote. Broncos advance and Peyton will play in his fourth super bowl and presumably last game of his career, who currently has a 1-2 record.

NFC Championship Game

This game had less drama then the AFC championship game. The Panthers were dominant and shut down this Cardinals offense who had been ranked second in points and first in yards during the regular season, but as we all know the regular season doesn’t mean anything in the playoffs. They may have been a high powered offense but the Panthers made them look like a mediocre team. It was a blow out from the start with Carson Palmer having six total turnovers, four intercepts and two fumbles. There wasn’t really much of a game to see here. Cam Newton did what Cam had done all season, control the game with a balanced offense and is now on the verge of getting his first ring. Total domination by the Panthers who deserve to move on to the Super Bowl.

Now the Super Bowl match-up is set, the Denver Broncos versus the Carolina Panthers, will Peyton go out on top or will Newton continue to dominate? Who you got?!
“Championship Sunday Breakdown” was written by Guest blogger @reinallday Please Share this post & leave some feedback in the comment field below, I would love to know what you think.

The post Championship Sunday Breakdown first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">5299</post-id>

Giants Vs Patriots Week 10 Preview

Marco Ceo

New York Giants Game Preview

New York Giants News

State Your Case

Eli Manning

Headline

Rashad Jennings

Shane Vereen

Tom Brady

Giants Vs Patriots Week 10 Preview I’m not going to sugar coat it, this is…

The post Giants Vs Patriots Week 10 Preview first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

Giants Vs Patriots Week 10 Preview

I’m not going to sugar coat it, this is not going to be in an easy win for the Giants. The New England Patriots are playing some excellent ball right now. With that being said the Giants can keep up with any team. For this weeks preview we asked patriotsgab.com (twitter.com – PatriotsGab) to help break down this match up.

For The Pats

A Different Tom Brady.

Remember when Ryan Clark said Tom Brady sees Ghosts in the pocket? No team made Brady see more ghosts than the New York Giants did the past three games which is why they won. Tom Brady no longer sees ghosts in the pocket at the ripe age of 38. He can move around in the pocket much better now than he did when he was younger and he’s more accurate throwing on the run than he ever has been. You can hit him, you can pressure him, and even get five sacks in one half against him, but you won’t rock him anymore.

The Giants are one-dimensional.

The Giants, who beaten the Patriots three times in a row could run the ball, but not the 2015 Giants. They’ve struggled to run the ball this season and if they can’t get that going against the Patriots on Sunday, they could be in a world of trouble. That will allow the Patriots to focus solely on stopping the pass and pressuring Eli Manning. Expect to see a good mix of blitzes from the Patriots on Sunday because without an effective running game to back the defense off, they will pin their ears back. Of course, the Pats still have to get pressure on Eli because if they don’t, they will be vulnerable in the secondary. This Giants team can pass the ball, and they have many weapons for the defense to stop, which means they have to pressure and get home more times than not or this could be a shootout. The Giants have a top 15 passing offense and the Patriots have a top 15 passing defense, so this matchup should be fun, but still a one-dimensional offense favors the Patriots defense.

The Patriots offense is loaded.

The Patriots have no shortage of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Edelman, Gronk, Amendola, and LaFell are all lethal, and the Pats have a run game in LeGarrette Blount and a capable pass-catcher in RB Brandon Bolden. This group will be going against one of the worst ranked passing defenses, and a 19th rank rush defense. The numbers on paper don’t favor the Giants defense at all, even though the game isn’t on paper, the eye test doesn’t look much better for the Giants against the Patriots offense either. If they can’t get to Tom Brady all four quarters, they won’t stop the offense and the Patriots will win.

For The G-Men

The New JPP D-Line

For the bulk of this season we have had minimal pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers we saw what life would be like with JPP back in the lineup. While his stat line did not look good, he was important because he made Jamies Winston feel uncomfortable in the pocket. The Patriots are shuffling the offensive lineup to help protect Tom Brady as they have given up 18 sacks this year. If the Giants plans to upset one way is to get to Tom Brady. Keep an eye up for JPP and Robert Ayers to cause some confusion.

Time of position

Numbers can be deceiving, looking at the Giants running statistics they are in the bottom half of the NFL. I would argue a nice portion of the Giants passing plays are quick passes to Shane Vereen and Rashad Jennings in the backfeild where they extended the play. While the Giants do not possess the “Bell Cow” running back they do have 4 fresh legged backs who share the work load. Using the four backs will keep the ball in our hands and out of Tom Brady’s.

No backing down.

The majority of the time the Patroits win the game even before it starts. Other teams may play scared or timid, not the Giants. This is not the case with Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin leading the charge. Now I can’t say or guarantee that we will win, but I know that we will bring a fight.

The post Giants Vs Patriots Week 10 Preview first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

 <post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">4892</post-id>
