General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll are both firmly on the hot seat. This selection isn’t just about the team’s future—it could decide their own.

As a New York Giants fan and blogger who is excited about this moment, I’m laying out my top three candidates and a couple of trade scenarios worth watching.

Top 3 Options for Big Blue

Abdul Carter – LB/EDGE, Penn State

Abdul Carter brings relentless energy and a natural ability to disrupt plays off the edge. He’s a high-motor defender who consistently finds his way into the backfield. Adding Carter to a group that already features Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux on the outside—and Dexter Lawrence II dominating on the interior—would give the Giants one of the most imposing defensive fronts in the league. It’s the kind of move that could reshape the defense and make life miserable for opposing quarterbacks. In today’s NFL, you can never have too many pass rushers.

Travis Hunter – CB/WR, Colorado

Travis Hunter is the most intriguing two-way player in the draft. The Giants have needs at both wide receiver and cornerback, and Hunter is uniquely qualified to help at both spots. On offense, he’d be an ideal complement to Malik Nabers—forming a dangerous duo that could challenge any secondary. Defensively, Hunter brings the shutdown ability the Giants have been missing. Paulson Adebo, signed this offseason, hasn’t yet proven he can be that true No. 1 corner. Hunter has the talent to be just that, and experts believe he could reach Pro Bowl level on either side of the ball. He’s the kind of playmaker that instantly raises a team’s ceiling.

Shedeur Sanders – QB, Colorado

The Giants have done extensive work on Shedeur Sanders, meeting with him multiple times this offseason. Both John Mara and Joe Schoen have been clear—the search for a franchise quarterback is the top priority. Sanders is widely considered the second-best quarterback in the 2025 draft behind Miami’s Cam Ward. He’s a poised pocket passer with a sharp football IQ who remains calm under pressure and embraces big moments. He welcomes the limelight—something not every QB can handle in New York. With veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on board, Sanders would have time to develop before taking over the huddle. It’s a smart long-term investment if the Giants believe he’s their guy.

Trade Scenarios to Watch

Trading Up

So far, it’s been quiet on the trade-up front. The Titans appear locked in on selecting Cam Ward, and there’s been little noise about the Giants jumping ahead of them. The market just doesn’t seem hot for a move up right now.

Trading Down

There have been whispers that the Giants have fielded calls about moving down. But unless a deal blows them away, I’m staying put. With so much riding on this pick, it’s time to plant the flag and choose the future.

🛍️ Rep the Team, No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue. Two names dominated the discussion: Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter. Let’s break down the most frequently asked questions and some standout comments.

Why Abdul Carter Makes Sense.

Many of you wanted to know: Who’s better, Carter or Hunter? The truth is, I like both. But Abdul Carter could be a game-changer for our defense. You can never have too many pass rushers—especially after years of watching “bend but don’t break” defenses.

“With Carter, even Kayvon will look good… You can’t block Sexy, Carter, Burns, and Kayvon. You put the QB on his back, force interceptions, get field position, and score points.”
– Jimmy on Facebook

Imagine that front—offensive lines won’t stand a chance.

The Case for Travis Hunter.

Now let’s talk Travis Hunter. His talent is off the charts, and the fact that he wants to play both wide receiver and cornerback at the NFL level is wild. From what I’m hearing, the Giants are open to it.

He’ll likely be a CB first, but imagine him in 3-WR sets. That would be must-watch football.

“Hunter all day. If we have a strong secondary, that makes our current pass rushers even better.”
– Joseph on Facbook

And he’s right—coverage and pressure go hand in hand.

Dart vs. Milroe: Which QB Fits?

Another hot topic: Jaxon Dart vs. Jalen Milroe. Some of you think the Giants would need to trade up for either. Others believe they’re second-round projects.

I personally like Dart just a bit more—big arm, mobile, tough. But if Milroe develops like Lamar Jackson? Watch out.

“The thing is… you can’t trade up for him, then sit him. If you’re gonna give up that capital, he’s gotta be playing Week 1. You’re essentially giving up a chance at 3 players to just get 1 if we trade up, so he better be starter material.”
– Vic on Bleed Big Blue Nation

Hard to argue with that logic. The cost to move up is steep—so the return better be worth it.

Drama During Draft Day.

While I love all the buzz and wild scenarios surrounding draft day, I’m not expecting the New York Giants to pull off some big surprise. It’s fun to speculate about potential trades, but I think the team will mostly stick to their strategy and address their needs in a calculated way. That said, there’s always the possibility of a trade that could completely shake things up. And that potential? Yeah, it’s definitely keeping me on my toes.

Keep the Comments Coming!

Thanks again for all the interaction on both Instagram and Facebook. The Giants GM held a pre draft press conference, and if you’ve heard one, you’ve heard them all. He’s polished, professional, and somehow manages to talk for 20 minutes without revealing much of anything.

Schoen says the Giants are “in a pretty good spot” and that they “have a process in place that we believe in.” That quote might sound familiar because it’s essentially a copy-and-paste from every other pre-draft media appearance he’s made since 2022.

Quarterback Talk… But No Urgency

Of course, the question came up—will the Giants draft a quarterback? Schoen’s answer: maybe. It’s “not mandatory,” thanks to the recent signings of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. He complimented the depth of the current class but made it clear they’ll only take one “if the board lines up.” In other words, the Giants won’t force it. Again, sounds familiar.

Leadership is important at the position, Schoen added. A quarterback needs to motivate and be the “face of the franchise.” That’s one of the few direct quotes that might raise eyebrows—but it’s still vague enough to apply to half the QBs in this draft.

Draft Strategy? Keep Guessing

Schoen confirmed the team has gotten calls about trading up and down. He said they’ll be “open to all options” and are willing to “run out the shot clock” next Thursday. As usual, it sounds like the Giants are ready for anything… or at least they want everyone to think that.

There’s also been no decision yet on the fifth-year options for Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal. Schoen says that will come after the draft. As for Neal, he’s apparently motivated and having a strong offseason.

Notes on Prospects, But No Commitments

The team is holding a medical meeting on Penn State’s Abdul Carter, but Schoen doesn’t expect any red flags. Meanwhile, Heisman winner Travis Hunter drew some attention for his rare ability to play both ways. Schoen praised his mindset and said the team wouldn’t hesitate to use him on offense and defense—if they pick him.

A Masterclass in Saying Nothing

If there’s one thing Schoen has mastered, it’s the art of the non-answer. His press conferences are full of cautious optimism and well-rehearsed generalities. It’s smart, strategic, and—let’s be honest—kind of boring.

He says all the right things, but don’t expect any real hints until Roger Goodell steps to the podium.

🛍️ Rep the Team, No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue. And if you’re gearing up for a fresh season, there’s no better way than with the just-released Russell Wilson New York Giants jersey. Whether it’s Abdul Carter, the hard-hitting linebacker out of Penn State, or Travis Hunter, the dynamic two-way star from Colorado, this pick needs to be about pure talent.

The front office can’t afford to get cute. Don’t reach. Don’t play it safe. Just grab the best available playmaker. The defense needs an identity, and both of these guys bring it in different ways. Carter is a tone-setter with speed and attitude. Hunter is electric and has “future star” written all over him.

Quarterback Can Wait.

Yes, the Giants need a long-term answer at quarterback. But that doesn’t mean they need to force it with their top pick. Take the playmaker now, and explore QB options in the later rounds. There are plenty of teams who might be willing to deal. If the right signal-caller is slipping, trade up. You don’t have to reach when you have leverage.

This Is About Building a Foundation.

This draft could set the tone for the next decade. You need cornerstone players. Carter or Hunter fits that mold. Make the smart move — take the guy who jumps off the tape, the guy offenses fear. Build around that energy.

Will Carter or Hunter Be the Giants Big Answer? was originally published by Bleedbigblue.com.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. During the first week, Schoen attended three key matchups: Colorado vs. North Dakota State, Georgia vs. Clemson, and Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M.

While some speculate that Schoen is eyeing a replacement for Daniel Jones, particularly with Colorado’s standout QB Shedeur Sanders on display, there’s more to his trip than just quarterbacks. Colorado boasts a versatile two-way threat in Travis Hunter, and Notre Dame has a top-tier cornerback in Ben Morrison. Georgia, as always, is loaded with NFL-caliber talent.

Beyond the Game Tape.

Scouting isn’t just about what happens on the field during games. The true value lies in what scouts like Schoen observe off-camera. It’s about building relationships on campus, evaluating players when the spotlight isn’t on, and gathering insights that can’t be captured on TV. This behind-the-scenes work is critical in making informed draft decisions.

The Daboll-Sanders Connection.

On a related note, it’s worth mentioning the growing relationship between Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll and Colorado Head Coach Deion Sanders, who happens to be Shedeur Sanders’ father. During the NFL Honors ceremony, Sanders presented Daboll with the AP Coach of the Year award, a gesture that showed mutual respect. As they left the stage, Daboll told Sanders about a potential recruit for Colorado, and the two immediately got on the phone with Sanders’ recruiting chief. This connection could be significant as both teams look to build for the future.

This scouting trip by Schoen highlights the Giants’ commitment to finding the best talent, not just for today but for the future.

About Us.

BleedBigBlue.com burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral.
