The disgust over how the season has played out made it difficult to revisit this game. However, as fans deserve a recap, here we are. We’ll also publish Sunday’s game against the Falcons later today, keeping the accountability going, even in tough times.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Malik Nabers Shines Despite the Loss</strong></h3> <p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://fanatics.93n6tx.net/75Z30g" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="18" title="Malik Nabers">Malik Nabers</a> managed a bright moment with his first touchdown since Week 3. Now sitting at 901 yards for the year, he’s just 99 yards shy of being the Giants’ first 1,000-yard receiver since Odell Beckham Jr. in 2018. If not for missing time with a concussion, Nabers would already have hit that milestone.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Quarterback Situation Remains Grim</strong></h3> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tim Boyle threw the Giants’ first touchdown pass since Week 9, ending a month-long drought. Neither Drew Lock nor <a href="https://fanatics.93n6tx.net/td15" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="6" title="Tommy Devito" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tommy DeVito</a> managed a touchdown during that span. DeVito, once a source of magic in 2023, now looks like the undrafted free agent he is. Injuries to both DeVito and Lock leave Boyle as the likely starter. The Giants should focus on finding a backup off the street to finish the season.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>A Defense Outmatched by Lamar Jackson</strong></h3> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Ravens’ offense toyed with the Giants’ defense. Lamar Jackson barely needed the run game, as Baltimore’s passing attack tore through a battered secondary. Dane Belton, filling in for Tyler Nubin, stood out with 15 tackles and a sack, but the defense overall looked overwhelmed.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Familiar Calls for Change</strong></h3> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">For the ninth straight week, fans flew a banner over MetLife calling for change. John Mara insists Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll are safe, but history suggests he could change his mind. At 0-8 at home and on a nine-game losing streak, the Giants could finish winless at MetLife in 2024.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">With three games left, the focus shifts to draft position. If the Raiders win another game, the Giants could lock in the No. 1 pick. As for <a href="https://fanatics.93n6tx.net/dj8" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="13" title="Daniel Jones" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daniel Jones</a>? He’s likely relieved to be watching this disaster unfold from the Minnesota sidelines.</p> <h5 class="wp-block-heading">About Us.</h5> <p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://bleedbigblue.com/">BleedBigBlue.com</a>&nbsp;burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. While there were some positives, key mistakes ultimately cost them the game. Here’s a breakdown of what went wrong and what needs improvement heading into next week.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Defensive Struggles.</h3> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Giants’ defense had some bright spots but was far from perfect. For starters, allowing over 200 yards rushing is unacceptable. Brian Robinson Jr. led the charge with 133 yards, followed by Jayden Daniels with 44, and Austin Ekeler adding 38. The defense will need to fix this if they hope to win in the future.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The defensive line managed to sack Jayden Daniels five times. However, stars <a href="https://fanatics.93n6tx.net/QyoYQA" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="19" title="Brian Burns">Brian Burns</a> and <a href="https://fanatics.93n6tx.net/kt5" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="8" title="Kayvon Thibodeaux" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kayvon Thibodeaux</a> failed to make any impact on that front. Their lack of sacks is concerning. Shane Bowen must address these issues before the next game.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">On a positive note, Dru Phillips had a strong performance with 12 tackles and a sack. But, the poor tackling overall by the defense has to be cleaned up quickly.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Offensive Positives and Setbacks.</h3> <p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://fanatics.93n6tx.net/dj8" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="13" title="Daniel Jones" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daniel Jones</a> had a decent game, throwing two touchdown passes. He didn’t reach 200 yards passing, but he wasn’t the reason for the loss. He’ll need to build on this performance next week.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Devin Singletary was a highlight on the offense, coming close to 100 yards rushing and scoring his first touchdown with the Giants. However, his fumble in the third quarter hurt the team’s momentum.</p> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rookie <a href="https://fanatics.93n6tx.net/75Z30g" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="18" title="Malik Nabers">Malik Nabers</a> had his first 100-yard game, with 123 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Unfortunately, his drop on a crucial fourth down killed the Giants’ hopes of extending their final drive.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Special Teams Management Issues.</h3> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Special teams were another problem area for the Giants. Knowing that kicker <a href="https://x.com/dan_salomone/status/1834962195802730528?s=46&#038;t=1ED8odV290ZSKaCO60mxlg">Graham Gano was dealing with a groin injury,</a> the team failed to activate Jude McAtamney. Not having a reliable kicker available hurt the Giants, as they missed out on five to six points from field goals and extra points. It was a costly oversight by the coaching staff.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Looking Ahead.</h3> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">This was a winnable game, but the Giants let it slip away. With six tough matchups ahead against playoff contenders, the road doesn’t get any easier. The Giants will need to tighten up across the board to avoid a similar fate in the coming weeks.</p> <h5 class="wp-block-heading">About Us.</h5> <p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://bleedbigblue.com/">BleedBigBlue.com</a>&nbsp;burst onto the scene after a fiery social media rant about PSL’s and ticket prices went viral. After being claimed off waivers from the Jets in 2022, Pinnock was determined to break free from his special teams role. Last season, he excelled in training camp and continued to impress throughout the season. He recorded 85 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions, including a remarkable 102-yard return against the Dolphins. Pinnock also contributed 10 pressures, 19 run stops, and two forced fumbles. His great range, acceleration, physicality, and improved awareness have positioned him for an expanded role in the 2024 season.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Tyler Nubin</h3> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="684" src="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-1024x684.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-42275" srcset="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-768x513.jpg 768w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-1920x1282.jpg 1920w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-1170x781.jpg 1170w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-585x390.jpg 585w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-263x175.jpg 263w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1-400x267.jpg 400w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0115-1.jpg 2000w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Giants are confident that <a href="https://bleedbigblue.com/giants-draft-safety-tyler-nubin/" title="Giants Draft Safety Tyler Nubin">Tyler Nubin</a> can handle early challenges, thanks to his extensive experience from 48 games over five years at Minnesota. They believe earning a starting role in his rookie year is a realistic goal. What sets Nubin apart from most newcomers is his high character and leadership qualities. After drafting him in the second round, general manager Joe Schoen praised Nubin as a &#8220;culture changer&#8221; at Minnesota and expects him to bring that same mentality to the Giants.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Dane Belton</h3> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1-1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-42274" srcset="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1-585x390.jpg 585w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1-263x175.jpg 263w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1-400x267.jpg 400w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0112-1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dane Belton is in the mix for the Giants&#8217; starting strong safety position, competing with rookie Tyler Nubin. After limited playing time in his first two seasons, Belton now has a chance to step up with Xavier McKinney gone. According to <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/07/28/sports/jason-pinnock-dane-belton-leading-giants-safety-competition/" title="">Ryan Dunleavy</a> of the New York Post, Belton has been impressive in OTAs with his ball-hawking skills while playing with the first-team defense. With Nubin currently sidelined by a hamstring injury, Belton has a strong opportunity to secure the starting role.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Jalen Mills</h3> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1-1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-42273" srcset="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1-585x390.jpg 585w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1-263x175.jpg 263w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1-400x267.jpg 400w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0111-1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <a href="https://bleedbigblue.com/" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c="1" title="Home">New York Giants</a> have added veteran safety Jalen Mills to bolster their defensive depth. While primarily a cornerback, he showcased his ability to play across the secondary last season. With the Giants&#8217; youthful depth, Mills&#8217; experience and adaptability will be key assets for the defense.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Gervarrius Owens</h3> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1-1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-42276" srcset="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1-585x390.jpg 585w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1-263x175.jpg 263w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1-400x267.jpg 400w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0116-1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">New York Giants safety Gervarrius Owens was nearly the last pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, selected 254th overall in the seventh round. Hailing from Moore, Oklahoma, he was drafted to add depth to the Giants&#8217; safety position after losses in free agency. Despite some technical challenges, Owens appeared in just three games as a rookie, mainly contributing on special teams. Now, he&#8217;s looking for a chance to contribute more meaningfully to the roster.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">Elijah Riley</h3> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1-1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-42278" srcset="https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1-1170x780.jpg 1170w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1-585x390.jpg 585w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1-263x175.jpg 263w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1-400x267.jpg 400w, https://bleedbigblue.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/img_0119-1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure> <p class="wp-block-paragraph">At 26, Riley has established a solid NFL career since his time at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
