Giants Win Again and Shake Up the Draft Picture after a Week 17 win over the Raiders, as young players flash growth and draft questions remain.

The post Giants Win Again and Shake Up the Draft Picture first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.

The New York Giants picked up a surprising 34 to 10 win over the Raiders in Week 17, and it came with mixed emotions. On one hand, a win always feels good, especially one this convincing. On the other hand, it once again complicates the draft picture when it felt like the top pick was finally locked in.

For the second straight season, the Giants found a way to win a late December game after fans had already started dreaming about owning the first overall selection. Last year it was the Colts. This year, it was the Raiders. Different opponent, same result, and the same frustration for fans watching the draft board shift in real time.

Players Never Tank, Even If Fans Want Them To

This game was another reminder that players simply do not tank. Fans can debate draft position all they want, but once those players step on the field, pride takes over. Careers, contracts, and reputations are always on the line.

If there was a team that looked like it might be thinking about the future, it was the Raiders. Whether you want to call it tanking or just a lack of talent, the end result was the same. At 2 and 14, they now sit as the worst team in football. The Giants took full advantage, and honestly, that is exactly what they should have done.

Confidence Matters for a Rookie Quarterback

Jaxson Dart looked like himself again, and that was one of the biggest takeaways from the afternoon. He was once again playing loose, confident, and aggressive. Over the last month its been difficult for him, glad to see today’s game.

Yes, it came against a bad Raiders defense. That matters. Still, Dart needed this kind of game. He needed to make throws, move the offense, and feel good walking off the field. Confidence is everything for a rookie quarterback, and this performance helped reset things heading into the final week.

This was not about crowning him as the long term answer. It was about stopping the slide and getting him back on track.

Tough Decisions Are Coming at Wide Receiver

Wan’Dale Robinson continues to show why he is going to get paid in free agency. He does the little things well, gets open consistently, and competes every snap. If it were up to me, I would keep Wan’Dale and let Darius Slayton walk.

That might not be a popular opinion, but Robinson brings more versatility and reliability to this offense. He has earned his spot, and this season has made that clear.

Brian Burns Is Playing at an Elite Level

Brian Burns has been outstanding all season. His impact shows up every week, even when teams try to game plan around him. If Myles Garrett were not having the year he is having, Burns would have a very real case for Defensive Player of the Year.

The Giants finally have a true game changer on the edge, and it shows every time he lines up.

Abdul Carter Is Taking the Next Step

Abdul Carter continues to prove that he takes football seriously. His growth has been steady, and the production is starting to match the effort. You can see it on tape. He is more decisive, more physical, and more involved in every phase.

This is exactly the type of progression you want to see from a young defender.

Ben Sauls Deserves a Real Look

Ben Sauls has been solid in his two games with the Giants, and he deserves a chance to compete for the kicker job in 2026. He has done his job, and that is not something this team has been able to say consistently at that position.

Mike Kafka Gets One in the Win Column

Mike Kafka finally gets his first coaching win. It might not change the big picture, but it matters. Going winless as an interim head coach sticks with you. At least now, that will not be part of his story.

Giants Finally Shine on Thursday Night In A Win That Meant More Than the Scoreboard.

It’s been a long time since Giants fans could smile after a Thursday night game — ten long years, to be exact. But this one felt different. The Giants didn’t just win; they made a statement. Beating the defending NFC champs wasn’t about luck. It was about finally seeing the promise of this young roster come to life.

The 34–17 victory over the Eagles showed direction, confidence, and fight. For the first time in a while, the Giants looked like a team that believed in itself. You could feel it from the opening kickoff — there was energy, urgency, and attitude.

Jaxson Dart Is the Future

I’m convinced Jaxson Dart is the future franchise quarterback of the New York Giants. On Thursday night, he put together his best performance yet. He completed 17 of 25 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown and added 58 yards and another score on the ground.

Dart displayed everything you want to see — arm talent, mobility, and playmaking ability. That first-quarter touchdown run set the tone for the entire night. He broke containment, saw daylight, and took off. It wasn’t just athleticism; it was instinct and confidence rolled into one.

Still Taking Too Many Hits

My only concern? He’s taking too many hits. Dart’s toughness is impressive, but I don’t want to see that become a habit. Protecting him has to be priority number one. You can’t build a franchise if your quarterback is constantly picking himself off the turf. Still, it’s clear — the kid’s got “it.” He’s playing with poise and control that’s rare for a rookie.

Cam Skattebo Sets the Tone

Cam Skattebo continues to prove that he belongs in this league. The rookie running back carried the offense with 98 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His 5.2 yards per carry speak volumes about his consistency and drive.

A Spark the Giants Needed

Cam runs like every play might be his last, hard, fearless, and with purpose. He hits the hole, lowers his shoulder, and never backs down from contact. That kind of effort energizes the offense and sets a tone that the rest of the team follows. Since Saquon Barkley’s departure, this offense has been searching for a heartbeat. Cam might just be that pulse.

Playmakers Stepping Up

With multiple injuries at wide receiver, the Giants needed others to rise up, and they did. Wan’Dale Robinson led the charge with six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, while Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who was on the practice squad last week added four receptions for 55 yards.

Both players made timely catches that kept drives alive. It wasn’t flashy, but it was effective. When you can count on your depth guys to perform, that’s when you know the locker room is buying in.

The Defense Found Its Groove But Has More to Give

The defense finally looked like the Giants defense we’ve all been waiting for. Brian Burns set the tone up front with two sacks and constant pressure. The unit played disciplined, kept everything in front of them, and made life uncomfortable for the Eagles’ offense all night.

Time to Turn the Dial Up

As well as they played, I still think they can reach another level. I want to see this defense take over games, not just manage them. They have the talent to dominate every week it’s time to crank the dial.

One thing that stood out? I didn’t hear Deonte Banks’ name all game. I don’t think he saw many snaps, and at this point, it feels like Cor’Dale Flott’s spot to lose. The rotation has changed, and it’s going to be something to watch heading into Denver.

Building on the Momentum

This win wasn’t just a victory it was a breath of fresh air. The Giants snapped a decade-long Thursday night drought and reminded fans that there’s still plenty to believe in.

You can feel a shift. The energy in the building, the belief in the locker room, and the confidence in the young talent all point toward a team finding its rhythm.

The Giants now head to Denver on October 19 with a chance to keep that momentum rolling. If Dart keeps developing, Cam keeps grinding, and the defense keeps tightening the screws, this could be the turning point fans have been waiting for.

Rep the Team, No Matter What!

Even through the ups and downs, we bleed blue. And if you’re gearing up for a fresh season, there’s no better way than with the just-released Jaxson Dart New York Giants jersey — flying off the shelves!

Giants Find New Juice with Rookie QB Jaxson Dart as he leads New York to its first win of 2025, showing toughness, poise, and playmaking ability.

A Rookie Quarterback Steps Up.

Jaxson Dart was not supposed to be on the field this early. The plan was patience, a year of watching and learning. Most believed throwing him into action too soon would hurt his growth and sink the Giants’ offense.

But Coach Brian Daboll had other ideas. He trusted his rookie quarterback enough to start him against the undefeated Chargers. With the Giants desperate for a spark, Dart was given the chance to lead. And he delivered.

The Game-Changing Performance

The Giants offense had looked flat in two of their three losses. Against Los Angeles, Dart gave it a pulse. He brought energy, toughness, and playmaking ability that made the team believe.

Yes, the defense deserves credit. The pass rush came alive with 20 pressures. Abdul Carter racked up five quarterback hits, and Brian Burns’ late sack closed the door. Still, it was Dart who changed the tone. He gave the Giants something they had not felt in weeks: life.

Toughness on Full Display

Dart took heavy punishment from a physical Chargers defense. He even tweaked his hamstring, but he never wavered. Each time he was hit, he got back up and kept fighting.

On the Giants’ opening drive, he ripped through the middle for a 15-yard touchdown run. The MetLife crowd erupted, louder than it had been in years. That moment set the tone for the night.

Key Plays in the Clutch

Dart showed he could handle pressure situations. In the fourth quarter, he connected with tight end Theo Johnson on a short pass to seal the win with a first down. Earlier, he found Johnson again on a shovel pass for a touchdown.

The Giants’ offense looked different. It was quicker, fresher, and more dynamic. Dart used short throws, designed runs, and kept the Chargers defense guessing. Receivers like Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Johnson all stepped up to make plays.

The Bigger Picture

The night wasn’t without heartbreak. Malik Nabers went down with a serious injury, one that will cast a shadow on the rest of the season. Losing a player of his caliber hurts.

But what the Giants gained in this game cannot be overlooked. They may have found the quarterback of the future. Dart looks like the type of player a franchise can build around.

Final Thoughts

Everything you wanted to see in a first start was there. Dart’s toughness, his confidence, his ability to make plays when it mattered. Most importantly, his first start brought his first win — and the Giants’ first win of 2025.

Giants fans came to MetLife with questions and concerns. They left with hope. They left believing that Jackson Dart might just be the answer.

Rep the Team, No Matter What!

New York Giants End 2024 Season on a Low Note

A Tough Finish to a Rough Year

The New York Giants wrapped up their 2024 season with a 20-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles, already secured as the NFC’s No. 2 seed, rested several starters. Despite this, the Giants could not capitalize and ended their season with a 3-14 record. The Eagles, meanwhile, finished an impressive 14-3.

Offensive Line Struggles Continue

The Giants’ offensive line woes persisted in the finale. With John Michael Schmitz (ankle) and Evan Neal (rib/hip) unavailable, the team fielded its 10th different line combination of the season. This tied last year’s total. Greg Van Roten stepped in as center for the second consecutive game. Undrafted rookie Jake Kubas played right guard, while Tyre Phillips made his first start since a season-ending quad injury in December 2023.

Malik Nabers Sets a Franchise Record

Malik Nabers entered Week 18 needing four catches to break Steve Smith’s single-season record of 107 receptions, set in 2009. The rookie achieved the milestone in the third quarter and finished with five catches for 64 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown. Nabers, the sixth overall pick, also set the Giants’ rookie record for receptions, previously held by Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley with 91 each.

Nabers’ stellar season now awaits comparison to Las Vegas’ Brock Bowers, who may challenge the NFL rookie reception record later today.

Wan’Dale Robinson Shines

Wan’Dale Robinson contributed a team-leading 10 catches in the game, bringing his season total to 93. This mark ranks as the fifth-highest in Giants history. His consistent performances were a bright spot in an otherwise frustrating season.

Defensive Efforts Highlighted by Thibodeaux and Johnson

Kayvon Thibodeaux notched the game’s first sack in the third quarter, finishing the season with 5.5 sacks in 12 games. This performance made him the 19th player in franchise history to reach at least 20 career sacks. Linebacker Dyontae Johnson also stood out, leading the team with 11 tackles in just his second game back from an ankle injury.

Eagles Rest Starters, Including Barkley

Philadelphia’s coach, Nick Sirianni, rested key players, including Saquon Barkley. Barkley was just 101 yards short of Eric Dickerson’s NFL single-season rushing record. Sirianni emphasized prioritizing the team’s playoff readiness over individual achievements.

Quarterback Tanner McKee, making his first career start, impressed with two touchdown passes and a 100.6 passer rating.

The Giants’ season ended in disappointment, leaving fans frustrated and hopeful for better days ahead.

New York Giants wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson ready for a breakout season in 2024.

The New York Giants seem set on utilizing Wan’Dale Robinson’s diverse skills. This is clear from how often the third-year wide receiver shifts positions during OTAs. Getting Robinson more involved will be key for the Giants. He’s a reliable target who can help quarterback Daniel Jones. NFL insiders seem to think Wan’Dale Robinson will take the next step.

Bleacher Report recently named Robinson as one of the “7 NFL Wide Receivers in Best Position for a Breakout Season in 2024.” Hopefully if Wan’dale Robinson and Daniel Jones are healthy they can thrive together.

It’s not uncommon to see a receiver really hit their stride in the third year of their NFL career. Nico Collins was the latest to experience the Year 3 spike, becoming a star for the Texans offense in 2023.

Some of the candidates to have a Year 3 bump have too much production to be considered “breakout” players. Garrett Wilson, Drake London, Chris Olave and George Pickens are already the top receivers on their teams. All except London have at least one 1,000-yard season to their name already.

Wan’Dale Robinson hasn’t had as much success since going in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. But he has a chance to make a leap with the New York Giants this season.

The Giants receiving corps is fairly nebulous at this point. It could be assumed that Malik Nabers will eventually take over as the top target within the offense. They wouldn’t have used a top-10 pick on him if that wasn’t the plan.

However, Robinson appears to have captured the coaching staff’s attention as well. Dan Duggan of The Athletic reported the Giants have moved Robinson in the backfield, in the slot and out wide during OTA work.

Brian Daboll is going to have to get creative to make up for the loss of Saquon Barkley in the passing game. Losing Darren Waller to retirement should open up some targets over the middle as well.

Robinson, a quick 5’8″, 185-pound playmaker, is the kind of chess piece that could help provide cover for both roles. If so, he might break out as the kind of playmaker who can be a high-end No. 2 to Nabers for years to come.

Bleacher Report – 7 NFL Wide Receivers in Best Position for a Breakout Season in 2024.

Robinson’s versatility is a huge asset. With Daboll’s creativity, he can shine in multiple roles. Watching Robinson evolve will be exciting. Here’s to hoping he becomes the playmaker the Giants need this season.

Robinson said he was just beginning to feel fully healthy at the end of the 2023 season

Will the real Wan’Dale Robinson please stand up for the New York Giants in 2024?

Let’s discuss Robinson as we continue player-by-player profiles of the Giants’ 90-man roster.

The skinny

Height: 5-foot-8
Weight: 185
Opening day age: 23
Position: Wide receiver
Experience: 2
Contract: Year 3 of four-year, $8,185,166 rookie deal | 2024 cap hit: $2,232,318 | Guaranteed at signing: $5,791,409

Career to date

The Giants surprised many by selecting Robinson in Round 2 (43rd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. They left wide receivers like George Pickens and Romeo Doubs on the board to do so, saying they had a plan for the diminutive slot receiver.

We have only seen flashes of what Robinson can do over his first two seasons. A torn ACL suffered in a breakout nine-catch, 100-yard Week 10 game vs. the Detroit Lions in 2022 sidelined him until early in 2023.

That injury, combined with the offensive line and quarterback issues that plagued the Giants last season, has made it such that we have only seen glimpses of Robinson’s potential.

Robinson had 60 catches for 525 yards last season, averaging only 8.8 yards per catch. In two seasons, he has averaged only 9.1 yards on 87 receptions. He averages 4.0 receptions per game over his first 21 NFL games.

2024 outlook

Over the final two games of the 2023 season, Robinson caught 11 passes (5.5 per game) for 140 yards (12.7 yards per catch).

That is the kind of play the Giants are hoping from from the 23-year-old, and the kind of play Robinson hopes to deliver now that he feels fully healthy.

After delivering a five-catch, 85-yard (17.0 yards per catch) performance in the season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles that included a 33-yard catch-and-run, Robinson said there was “no doubt” it was the best he had felt since before his injury.

“This is definitely probably the best that I’ve felt,” he said.

The Giants hope that the addition of wide receiver Malik Nabers, the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will create additional space and opportunities for Robinson, Jalin Hyatt and Darius Slayton.

With good health and a better overal offensive situation — fingers crossed for both — perhaps Robinson will show in Year 3 why the Giants drafted him earlier than many thought he would be selected.

The post WR Wan’Dale Robinson aiming for big season in Year 3 first appeared on Bleedbigblue.com.
