Deadline Closes and the Giants Make No Moves, leaving the team with the same holes that have defined their 2-7 start. The front office passed on adding draft picks.

The NFL trade deadline came and went, and the New York Giants made zero moves. Not one. For a team sitting at 2,7 after nine weeks, silence feels louder than any splash deal they could have made. Fans expected activity, even if it was not the blockbuster wide receiver move everyone dreams about. Instead, we saw a front office that chose to stand completely still.

No Additions and No Subtractions

Given how the season has played out, the Giants looked like a clear candidate to sell off a few struggling pieces. There were whispers around Russell Wilson. There were questions about whether Jaylin Hyatt, Evan Neal, or even Deonte Banks would be moved. None of it materialized. The Giants neither added talent nor cleaned up the roster, and that leaves plenty of frustration across Giants Nation.

The expectation was never that the team would chase a headline name. It was more about repositioning the roster, opening spots for younger players, and collecting future assets. Instead, the deadline passed quietly, and that lack of action raises real questions about the vision of this front office.

The One Piece That Truly Matters

The good news is the hardest piece of the puzzle is already solved. The Giants have their quarterback. Jaxson Dart is the real deal, and every week he continues to show why he was worth the investment. When you have your franchise quarterback, the future can still be bright. The next step is surrounding him with real talent, stability, and dependable playmakers.

Can This Regime Build Around Dart?

That is where the doubt creeps in. The Giants have been inconsistent when it comes to adding and developing offensive talent. The misses are starting to stack up, and patience is wearing thin. Dart deserves a roster that complements his skill set. Right now, he is carrying too much of the load. That should never be the case for a young quarterback.

The front office has decisions to make and a rising star they must protect at all costs. The opportunity is there, but trust in this regime is far from strong.

Giants Pick Up Thibodeaux’s Fifth-Year Option

Over NFL Draft weekend, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen announced the team will pick up the fifth-year option on edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. The former No. 5 overall pick from the 2022 draft has flashed big-play ability but hasn’t been consistently dominant. Injuries have also limited his availability at times.

Despite some trade rumors swirling earlier this offseason, the Giants front office shut those down quickly. Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll still see Thibodeaux as a core piece of the defense, especially with the addition of rookie edge rusher Abdul Carter. The duo is expected to bring speed and aggression off the edge—a welcome boost to the pass rush.

Evan Neal’s Option Declined, Position Change Rumored

While Thibodeaux’s option was picked up, the team declined the fifth-year option for fellow 2022 first-rounder Evan Neal. Taken just two picks after Thibodeaux, Neal has struggled to find his footing at right tackle. He’s dealt with multiple injuries and inconsistent play during his time on the line.

Now, the Giants are reportedly preparing to move Neal to guard in hopes of a better fit. The former Alabama standout will likely compete for a new role this summer, with the coaching staff giving him a chance to reboot his career on the inside.

Big Blue Banking on a Stronger Front

With Thibodeaux locked in and Abdul Carter ready to contribute, the Giants are betting on a disruptive edge duo to power their defense. Meanwhile, all eyes will be on how Neal adjusts to life at guard. The 2025 season could be a turning point for both players—and for a Giants roster looking to return to playoff form.

Uncertainty Remains Around Evan Neal’s Position and Contract.

Neal’s Role on the Line Still Undecided.

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen once again fielded questions this week about the future of right tackle Evan Neal. When asked whether Neal could shift to guard—a position he played as a freshman at Alabama—Schoen kept things vague.

“He’s going to do whatever he can to help the organization,” Schoen said. “He’s motivated, he’s had a good offseason, he’s working hard.”

Translation: The team still isn’t sure where Neal fits best.

Fifth-Year Option Appears Unlikely.

It’s becoming increasingly unlikely the Giants will pick up Neal’s fifth-year option. Locking him in for 2026 would mean a guaranteed $16.7 million, and that’s a hefty price for a player who has underperformed and struggled to stay healthy.

Schoen confirmed no decision has been made, but the signs aren’t promising. When a team brings in a free agent like Jermaine Eluemunor and pays him to take over your position, it’s never a great endorsement.

Neal’s Injuries Have Stalled His Growth.

Drafted No. 7 overall in 2022 after a standout college career at Alabama, Neal’s NFL run has been rocky. He’s missed 22 of 44 regular-season games due to injury, including 10 in 2023 alone. He had ankle surgery in early 2024 and started the year behind Eluemunor on the depth chart.

Neal did return to the starting lineup in November after Andrew Thomas went down, but he’ll need a strong, healthy season to reshape the narrative.

Time Running Out to Prove Himself.

Neal is entering a critical year. The Giants need answers, and fast. Whether he stays at tackle or moves inside, his performance in 2025 will likely determine whether he remains part of the long-term plan.

Right now, it feels like a long shot that the team commits $16.7 million to a player who hasn’t delivered consistent results.

Eight Days Out, Schoen Sounds Familiar

We’re eight days away from the NFL Draft, and Joe Schoen is saying all the right things—again. The Giants GM held a pre draft press conference, and if you’ve heard one, you’ve heard them all. He’s polished, professional, and somehow manages to talk for 20 minutes without revealing much of anything.

Schoen says the Giants are “in a pretty good spot” and that they “have a process in place that we believe in.” That quote might sound familiar because it’s essentially a copy-and-paste from every other pre-draft media appearance he’s made since 2022.

Quarterback Talk… But No Urgency

Of course, the question came up—will the Giants draft a quarterback? Schoen’s answer: maybe. It’s “not mandatory,” thanks to the recent signings of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. He complimented the depth of the current class but made it clear they’ll only take one “if the board lines up.” In other words, the Giants won’t force it. Again, sounds familiar.

Leadership is important at the position, Schoen added. A quarterback needs to motivate and be the “face of the franchise.” That’s one of the few direct quotes that might raise eyebrows—but it’s still vague enough to apply to half the QBs in this draft.

Draft Strategy? Keep Guessing

Schoen confirmed the team has gotten calls about trading up and down. He said they’ll be “open to all options” and are willing to “run out the shot clock” next Thursday. As usual, it sounds like the Giants are ready for anything… or at least they want everyone to think that.

There’s also been no decision yet on the fifth-year options for Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal. Schoen says that will come after the draft. As for Neal, he’s apparently motivated and having a strong offseason.

Notes on Prospects, But No Commitments

The team is holding a medical meeting on Penn State’s Abdul Carter, but Schoen doesn’t expect any red flags. Meanwhile, Heisman winner Travis Hunter drew some attention for his rare ability to play both ways. Schoen praised his mindset and said the team wouldn’t hesitate to use him on offense and defense—if they pick him.

A Masterclass in Saying Nothing

If there’s one thing Schoen has mastered, it’s the art of the non-answer. His press conferences are full of cautious optimism and well-rehearsed generalities. It’s smart, strategic, and—let’s be honest—kind of boring.

He says all the right things, but don’t expect any real hints until Roger Goodell steps to the podium.

Struggles Mount as Giants Enter the Bye Week

This game was tough to break down. Writing about these losses is getting more difficult as the season drags on. The 20-17 overtime loss to the Panthers highlights the ongoing struggles for the New York Giants. This article is late, let’s blame low enthusiasm..

Offensive Woes Continue

Daniel Jones may have played his final game as the Giants’ starting quarterback. Against the NFL’s worst defense, Jones struggled for most of the game. His performance raises questions about his future, and Brian Daboll might make a change soon.

Despite his poor showing, Jones showed some life in the final drive of regulation. He made solid throws and pushed the ball downfield without timeouts, forcing overtime.

Tyrone Tracy delivered another solid game but will likely be remembered for his costly overtime fumble. That mistake ultimately sealed the Giants’ fate.

Jalin Hyatt finally saw more action, catching four passes for 39 yards after being barely used all season. It’s a positive sign for the rookie’s development.

Evan Neal returned to the field for the first time since 2023. The right tackle looked decent, potentially earning a starting role after the bye week.

Defensive Struggles

The pass rush only managed one sack on Bryce Young, recorded by former Panther Brian Burns. Burns now has six sacks on the season but still hasn’t become the dominant force the Giants need.

Special Teams and Looking Ahead

Graham Gano bounced back after a rough start, nailing a clutch kick to send the game to overtime. His reliability could be a bright spot in an otherwise dim season.

At 2-8, the Giants sit at the bottom of the NFL standings. For now, they hold the first or second pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With the bye week ahead, fans are left wondering: Can this team win another game this season?

Tough Night for the New York Football Giants in their preseason finale.

The New York Giants fell 10-6 to the New York Jets in their preseason finale. The game highlighted some significant concerns as the team prepares for the regular season.

DeVito Struggles, but Still Has a Chance.

Tommy DeVito struggled against the Jets’ backups, completing only 14 of 27 passes for 103 yards and getting sacked eight times. Despite these struggles, he led the team in rushing with 48 yards. With Daniel Jones’ injury history and Drew Lock currently sidelined, DeVito could still make the roster. However, if the Giants decide to part ways with him, it wouldn’t be surprising.

Evan Neal’s Rough Return.

Evan Neal’s return from the PUP List didn’t go as planned. Although he started off solid, his performance quickly declined. Neal allowed several sacks, looking like his old self rather than someone ready to reclaim his spot. It seems Jermaine Eluemunor is set to be the Giants’ right tackle going forward.

Bubble Players Face Uncertainty

Isaiah Hodgins’ roster spot is in jeopardy, and after tonight’s performance, it wouldn’t be shocking if he gets cut. The Giants’ defense also struggled with missed tackles, which could lead to many bubble players being released. However, K.J. Cloyd made a strong case for himself with 16 tackles, including eight solo and two for a loss.

Preparing for the Regular Season.

With preseason over, the focus shifts to the regular season opener against the Vikings on September 8th. The Giants will be monitoring waiver cuts and exploring potential trades, with needs at cornerback, backup offensive line, and possibly a young quarterback. Cutdown day is Tuesday, August 27th, when rosters must be trimmed to 53 players by 4 PM EST.

The New York Giants received some good news today as offensive tackle Evan Neal passed his physical and was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. According to a press release from the Giants, Neal is now cleared to participate in practices and potentially play in upcoming games.

Evan Neal Returns to Action participated in individual drills

Neal wasted no time getting back into the swing of things. He participated in individual drills during today’s practice, signaling his eagerness to contribute. When speaking with reporters, Neal expressed a humble and team-first attitude, stating, “I’m not owed anything.” He made it clear that he’s ready to embrace any role the team sees fit for him, whether that’s as a backup or even at guard.

I can’t help but feel a mix of concern and optimism. It’s likely that Neal has lost his starting position after missing valuable time in training camp. However, this could be a blessing in disguise. The changes in the Giants’ coaching staff might provide Neal with the guidance he needs to develop into the player the team hoped he would be when they drafted him. The coaching staff’s approach could be crucial for Neal’s growth, helping him adjust and refine his game.

While it remains to be seen what role Neal will ultimately play, his willingness to adapt and the potential for improved coaching are positive signs. The Giants are in the midst of building a competitive roster, and Neal’s development could play a key role in their future success. For now, all eyes will be on how he progresses in the coming weeks.

New York Giants Training Camp OL Room

The 2024 NFL season is fast approaching, and Giants fans are buzzing with excitement. With training camp set to kicking off on July 24th for the veteran players, let’s dive into the Giants’ Offensive line room as the team gears up for camp.

Andrew Thomas

Andrew Thomas is among the top offensive linemen in the NFL. Despite a freak hamstring injury sidelining him for seven games last season, he remains a cornerstone of the Giants’ offense.

After returning to the field, Thomas quickly regained his dominant form. The 6-foot-5 tackle allowed only four sacks and 17 total pressures on 376 pass-blocking snaps. Impressively, he gave up just one sack and six pressures in the final five games of the season. His performance earned him Pro Football Focus’ 10th-highest pass block grade among all offensive tackles in 2023.

Bottom line: if Thomas stays healthy, he’ll perform as one of the best left tackles in football. This will significantly boost the Giants’ offensive line, making it much better than the 2023 group.

John Michael Schmitz

Center John Michael Schmitz Jr., heading into his second season, has the potential to transform the Giants’ O-Line. Despite his lackluster rookie performance, there’s reason for optimism due to his leadership, intangibles, and physical abilities.

Schmitz was widely regarded as the best center in the draft and immediately secured a starting spot. He will remain the starting center this season. Schmitz should improve in Year 2, especially with more stability on both sides of him, new coaching, and additional opportunities.

Evan Neal

It’s hard to sugarcoat Neal’s performance so far; he’s been a first-round disappointment through his first two NFL seasons. However, with new offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo in charge, there’s hope he can develop Neal, a task former O-line coach Bobby Johnson struggled with.

With veterans reporting for camp and the first practice session of the summer approaching, the Giants have released their initial injury report. Unfortunately, Neal has been placed on the PUP list to start. The former No. 7 overall pick is still recovering from winter ankle surgery and is clearly not ready for full participation in practice.

Jon Runyan

Runyan spent the 2023 season with the Green Bay Packers, finishing the final year of his rookie contract after being a sixth-round pick in 2020. Over his 1,009 snaps, he earned a run-blocking grade of 53.2 and a pass-blocking grade of 62.4.

Runyan was one of the Giants’ best signings this offseason, securing a three-year contract worth $30 million and is almost certain to start at guard. I anticipate he will make a significant impact on the Giants in 2024, especially with the addition of Coach Bricillo and the moves made on the offensive line.

Jermaine Eluemunor

Many fans see Eluemunor, who followed his former offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo from Las Vegas to New York, as a clear replacement for Evan Neal if Neal struggles this season. He has started games at both left and right guard and became the full-time starter at right tackle over the last two seasons with the Raiders.

The belief has always been that the Giants would not move Eluemunor to right tackle, but with Evan Neal on the PUP list, that has changed. The Giants hoped to stabilize an offensive line that was in flux for most of last season, but now there are renewed questions about how the line will shape up at the start of the 2024 season.

Joshua Ezeudu

A 2022 third-round pick, Ezeudu boasts impressive athleticism, mobility, and strength—qualities that are highly sought after in an offensive lineman. However, Ezeudu’s biggest challenge through his first two seasons has been his technical skills. He has struggled with consistency in his technique and, at times, with maintaining his confidence.

The Giants seem to be taking a step back with Ezeudu to allow him to develop his game. Hopefully, he can grow and benefit from the better talent that has been brought in.

Aaron Stinnie

Former Buccaneers guard Aaron Stinnie brings veteran starting experience to the table and is set to compete as one of the primary backup options along the offensive line. His experience and skills make him a valuable asset for depth and versatility, potentially stepping in when needed to support the line’s performance throughout the season.

Austin Schlottmann

The New York Giants have demonstrated a strong preference for versatile linemen who can fill multiple roles along the starting front. In his two NFL tenures, Schlottmann initially played 449 snaps at right guard for the Denver Broncos before being moved to the practice squad for most of the 2021 season. He then joined the Minnesota Vikings, where he served as a rotational center.

Schlottmann will need to compete fiercely for a depth spot on the Giants’ roster.

Matt Nelson

created by photogrid

Matt Nelson was one of five offensive linemen the New York Giants signed in free agency this offseason. After playing defensive end at Iowa, Nelson signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2019. Although he was initially cut at the end of training camp, he was re-signed by the Lions in mid-December.

From 2020 to 2023, Nelson appeared in 43 games with 14 starts for the Lions. He could potentially emerge as the Giants’ swing tackle.

Marcus McKethan

The Giants selected McKethan in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 173rd overall, with the intention of developing him as a guard. Unfortunately, his progress was interrupted by a season-ending torn ACL sustained during the 2022 Blue and White Scrimmage at MetLife Stadium.

Due to his limited practice reps—none with the starters during training camp—McKethan’s performance fell short of expectations. He started five games and had significant playing time in a sixth, but his impact was underwhelming. McKethan will need to make a strong impression to secure a backup position.

The Others

There may be some additions to the practice squad, including Jake Kubas, Jimmy Morrissey, Jalen Mayfield, Yodny Cajuste, Marcellus Johnson, and Joshua Miles. Most of these players seem to be on the outside looking in and will need to demonstrate their potential to remain with the Giants.
