Daniel Jones Benched: Giants Turn to Tommy DeVito

Giants Bench Daniel Jones After Disappointing Season.

The New York Giants made a decisive move on Monday, benching quarterback Daniel Jones and demoting him to QB3. This effectively marks the end of his career in East Rutherford. The decision came after a Week 10 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Germany, a performance that left fans and analysts alike questioning Jonesā€™ future.

Giants Promote Tommy DeVito to QB1

Instead of elevating Drew Lock to the starting role, the Giants opted to promote Tommy DeVito to QB1. Head coach Brian Daboll explained the reasoning behind the move during a press conference:

ā€œAfter evaluating a bunch of things and looking at a lot of tape and being around Tommy last year where he created a little bit of a spark for us, thatā€™s the reason why weā€™re going with Tommy,ā€ Daboll stated. ā€œDrew will be the backup. Continue to work with him. Heā€™s been nothing but a pro and as was Daniel.ā€

While Daboll avoided specifics about Jonesā€™ demotion, financial considerations are likely a factor. The team faces an injury clause and a $23 million guaranteed salary for Jones in 2025. Acknowledging this openly could lead to complications with the NFLPA.

Daniel Jones Addresses the Fans

On Wednesday, Daniel Jones shared his thoughts in a prepared statement, expressing gratitude for his time with the Giants:

ā€œThe opportunity to play for the New York Giants was truly a dream come true,ā€ Jones said. ā€œIā€™m extremely grateful to the Mara and Tisch families for the chance to play here. The Giants are truly a first-class organization, and I have nothing but genuine respect and appreciation for the people who have built it and who helped carry on that tradition.ā€

Jones acknowledged his struggles this season and took accountability for the teamā€™s lack of success:

ā€œOf course, this season has been disappointing for all and, of course, I wish I could have done more. Iā€™m 100% accountable for my part. I did not play well enough, consistently enough to help the team get the results.ā€

Whatā€™s Next for the Giants?

The Giants now turn to DeVito to create a spark as they prepare for their next game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fans will watch closely to see if this bold move can salvage the remainder of the season and set a new direction for the future.
