Mike Kafka on Daniel Jones: Underthrown Deep Balls Are Just Part of Practice

by Marco Ceo

Timing and Familiarity Key for Jones and Giants’ Receivers.

Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka views the underthrown deep balls from Daniel Jones this summer as “part of practicing.” He doesn’t believe it’s a physical issue. Instead, he thinks it’s more about getting to know the wide receivers, working on timing, and building familiarity.

Jones has shown some inconsistency during training camp, which is not entirely surprising given that he’s only eight months out from ACL recovery and surgery. This recovery period can impact a quarterback’s rhythm and confidence, as they’re still adjusting to the physical and mental aspects of returning to the field. As he continues to build rapport with his receivers, improvements are expected in his performance.

There is increased scrutiny on Jones this year, as many view it as a make-or-break season for the quarterback. With the team’s investment in new offensive weapons and a rebuilt offensive line, expectations are high. Jones will need to prove he can consistently perform at a high level and lead the Giants to success. This heightened pressure adds to the importance of his progress during training camp and throughout the season.
