Nabers Hints at Potential Jersey Number Change

It seems like Malik Nabers might be swapping numbers soon, as Dan Duggan reported:

“Everybody telling me nine looks good on me. Personally, I don’t like it. But we still haven’t made the decision yet.”

Selected as the No. 6 overall pick and already impressing during the team’s OTAs and minicamps, Nabers is temporarily sporting No. 9. However, this is just for minicamp / training camp, and it’s due to the 90-man roster and 14 retired numbers, making duplicate numbers unavoidable.

Number 9 currently belongs to kicker Graham Gano, who jokingly claimed “It belongs to me!” on social media in May when he found out Nabers wanted the jersey number. Could Gano work out a “deal” to let Nabers have it? Absolutely. He did something similar a few years ago, giving Kayvon Thibodeaux his No. 5 in exchange for a $50,000 donation to charity.

He wore No. 8 at LSU, but that number is already taken by quarterback Daniel Jones, unless Nabers can strike a deal with him. Nabers will probably have to choose a number in the 80s, as it’s customary for NFL receivers.

Based on my Facebook and Instagram comments, most people are leaning towards 8 or 88 for Nabers going forward.
