Update on The New York Giants smokescreen attempt with Oregon QB Justin Herbert. Did The Giants Smoke Screen Work?

Per For The Win’s Henry McKenna.
Justin Herbert is going to be the second quarterback off the board.

What’s been reported:
Not only are the Miami Dolphins indicating that they like Herbert, according to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, but the New York Giants are doing a deep investigation of the prospect, too, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

What’s probably happening: The Giants looking into Herbert makes me think they think the Dolphins and/or Chargers want Herbert.

Woof. Do I need to say that again?

If that’s true, New York is pretending to want Herbert so that the Chargers or Dolphins will move up the draft board to take a quarterback. That pushes players at other positions down the draft board. So does New York want Herbert? Probably not, after taking Jones in the first round last year (Jones was fine as a rookie). Does Miami want Herbert? The Giants seem to think the Dolphins do. But this goes back to the first smokescreen: Are teams afraid of Tua’s physical condition? Because the Alabama quarterback should be the second QB off the board.
