Giants cruising towards the playoffs after Cowboys victory.
How about dem Giants then? Ben McAdoo’s men stepped up to the plate in the 10-7 victory over the 11-2 Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night to move to 9-4 on the year. The NFC East title might be a tad out of reach but the Giants look set to secure one of the two NFC wildcard spots and feature in the postseason for the first time since winning the Super Bowl in 2011.
Eli Manning has been sublime in recent weeks, throwing eight touchdown passes and just three interceptions in the last four games. While he struggled during their victory against Dallas, Manning found Odell Beckham Jr for the go-ahead touchdown midway through the third quarter – and this duo could be set for more success in the playoffs.
In fact, Beckham has racked up 336 yards and three touchdowns over the last four matches and the Giants will need their star wideout to be at his best throughout the remainder of the campaign. As of December 12th, New York are priced at 22/1 to win the Super Bowl in Betway’s betting markets and the Manning/Beckham connection will be vital to their aspirations.
Defensively, the Giants have been solid all year. While the secondary flourished in the first half of the campaign, the front seven have raised their game in recent times. With 16 sacks in their last four games, New York are starting to apply pressure to the quarterback on a regular basis and McAdoo’s aggressive secondary have more opportunities to make plays.
This Giants unit is one of the top 10 defensive groups in the National Football League and their statistics are starting to back up that viewpoint. As the old adage goes, defence wins championships and New York will need their key play-makers, such as Landon Collins, to be on top form as the business end of the year approaches.
New York will almost certainly have to do things the hard way if they are going to challenge for a place in the Super Bowl but Manning has the experience and nous to guide the Giants through the playoffs. With Odell Beckham on offense and Landon Collins having a Pro Bowl year on defence, Ben McAdoo has two of the NFL’s elite stars at his disposal and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the NFC East side go all the way to the Super Bowl in Houston…
