Should Giants Fans Be Concerned About Malik Nabers’ Quiet Preseason Debut?

by Marco Ceo

I just watched a clip of rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers from Thursday’s preseason debut. One moment that stood out to me was his first route—he confidently threw his hands up, signaling for the ball. That’s the kind of assertiveness you want to see in a young receiver. But despite this, it was frustrating not to see him get any targets.

Nabers ran 12 routes in total, and on eight of those, he was wide open with zero targets. As a Giants fan, that’s hard to watch. We all know how crucial it is to establish chemistry early, especially for a rookie looking to make a mark.

In an interview with the New York Post, Nabers reflected on his performance:

“I did a very good job of getting open, but everything has to go my way to get the ball. It was kind of slippery out there. I think I could’ve done a better job of creating separation, getting better looks for the QB to throw the ball in better spots.”

This leaves us with a pressing question: Should Giants fans be concerned? Or should we chalk this up to preseason jitters?

It’s worth noting that our starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, sat out by the coach’s decision, with Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito getting the snaps instead. While it’s common to rest key players in the preseason, it does raise questions about the flow and rhythm of the offense.

Personally, I’m hoping this was just preseason jitters and not a sign of something more concerning. After all, the preseason is about ironing out the kinks and getting everyone on the same page. But as we head into the regular season, it’s going to be crucial for Nabers to start connecting with whoever’s under center. We need to see that potential translate into production on the field.

I’ll be keeping a close eye on Nabers in the upcoming games. Let’s hope this was just a minor hiccup on the road to a breakout season.
