Brian Daboll deserves credit for helping turn the Giants around early in his tenure. He was viewed as one of the NFL’s brightest offensive minds, and his first season gave fans hope that the franchise had finally found the right head coach.

Daboll may still be an excellent offensive coordinator, but being a successful head coach requires more than designing plays. It requires managing the locker room, handling the media, controlling the message, and making difficult decisions before problems spiral out of control.
Harbaugh Understands the New York Media Market
The New York media keeps receipts. A poorly worded answer, conflicting message, or avoidable controversy can quickly become a week-long story that follows the team into its next game.
That was another area where Daboll sometimes struggled. There were moments when his answers created more questions, especially when the public message didn’t match what happened behind the scenes.
Harbaugh’s experience has already been noticeable in the way he handles those situations. He speaks directly, protects his players, and avoids allowing minor issues to become major distractions.
One example came during this year’s NFL Draft when Malik Nabers appeared on a live podcast and seemed skeptical of some of the Giants’ draft picks. His comments quickly generated discussion among fans and the media, with some wondering whether there was frustration behind his remarks.
Rather than allowing the story to grow, Harbaugh addressed it head-on. He explained that he had spoken with Nabers privately and wanted the young receiver to be authentic and honest. At the same time, he made it clear that as long as a player’s heart was in the right place, those conversations wouldn’t become distractions for the team.
It was a calm, measured response that quickly took the oxygen out of what could have become a much bigger story. That’s the kind of leadership and communication successful head coaches consistently bring, especially in a market like New York.

The most interesting part of the John Harbaugh era is that none of this has been tested during the regular season yet. The Giants still need to prove that the leadership changes, roster moves, and offseason optimism can lead to victories.
Culture, however, begins long before the opening kickoff. It starts with how players practice, how coaches communicate, how mistakes are handled, and whether everyone inside the organization understands what is expected of them.
Harbaugh has already brought structure and credibility to a franchise that desperately needed both. His track record gives him authority, but his communication style and decisiveness are what have created such a strong early impression.
There is now a sense that the Giants have a plan instead of simply reacting to the latest problem.
John Harbaugh Has Given Giants Fans a Reason to Believe
No one should declare the John Harbaugh era a success before he coaches his first game. The final judgment will always come down to wins, losses, playoff appearances, and whether the Giants can become a consistent contender again.
Still, it is fair to acknowledge that the franchise already feels different. The messaging is clearer, the expectations appear higher, and the head coach seems comfortable leading every part of the football operation.
