William Roberts Named 80th on Giants Top 100 Players List.
William Roberts, affectionately known as “Big Dog,” has earned a prestigious spot on the New York Giants’ Top 100 Players list. Coming in at number 80, Roberts’ legacy as an offensive lineman is undeniable.
A Stalwart on the Offensive Line.
Roberts played 151 games for the New York Giants from 1984 to 1994. Only five other offensive linemen have played more games in franchise history. Drafted out of Ohio State in 1984, Roberts was the 27th overall pick. He joined Carl Banks, another Big Ten first-rounder, who would later be inducted into the Ring of Honor.
Pro Bowl and Super Bowl Champion.
Roberts made his mark at left guard, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 1990. He played in 11 postseason games for the Giants, including two Super Bowl victories. In Super Bowl XXV, Roberts was instrumental in Ottis Anderson’s MVP performance, paving the way for a 102-yard rushing game. His contributions on the field were vital to the Giants’ success during his tenure.
A Career Beyond the Giants
After his time with the Giants, Roberts played in a third Super Bowl with the New England Patriots under Bill Parcells. He would later reunite with Parcells in 1997, playing for the Jets in his final NFL season. Roberts’ impact on the game remains significant, solidifying his place among the Giants’ all-time greats.
