Speaking on NFL Network’s The Insiders, Skattebo confidently stated:
“I’m gonna get back to running people over.”
And honestly? I’m here for it.
Skattebo built a reputation as one of the most physical runners in football. Before injuries slowed his momentum, he showed the toughness, power, and downhill running style that made him a fan favorite. Now, the Giants appear to be building an offense specifically designed to maximize those strengths.
Here are three reasons why I believe Skattebo can back up his bold statement in 2026.
1. The Giants Offensive Line Should Be Better
Everything starts in the trenches.
The Giants made a significant investment in their offensive line by selecting offensive guard Sisi Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Mauigoa is expected to step into the starting lineup immediately and bring a physical presence to the interior offensive line.
Adding a day-one starter with elite talent should help create more running lanes and improve consistency in the ground game.
For a runner like Skattebo, that’s a big deal. The more space he has before first contact, the more opportunities he’ll have to punish defenders at the second level.
2. Patrick Ricard Gives the Giants a True Lead Blocker
One of the more underrated offseason additions was veteran fullback Patrick Ricard.
Ricard built his reputation with the Baltimore Ravens as one of the best blocking fullbacks in football. His familiarity with head coach John Harbaugh and the physical style Harbaugh wants to establish makes him a natural fit for this offense.
A fullback may not put up flashy statistics, but his impact can be enormous. Ricard’s ability to clear running lanes and eliminate defenders at the point of attack should help create favorable situations for Skattebo.
If the Giants are serious about becoming a smash-mouth football team, Ricard will play a major role in making that happen.
3. The Coaching Staff Wants to Run the Football
The coaching upgrades go well beyond hiring Harbaugh.
The Giants also added former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman as Senior Offensive Assistant and Run Game Coordinator.
Roman has built a reputation throughout his career for developing physical rushing attacks and maximizing the strengths of power-running backs. His offenses have consistently ranked among the league’s best rushing units, whether in Baltimore, San Francisco, or Buffalo.
Combine Roman’s run-game expertise with Harbaugh’s commitment to physical football, and it’s easy to see the direction this team wants to take.
The Giants are clearly signaling that they want to establish the run, control the line of scrimmage, and wear opponents down.
That philosophy fits Skattebo perfectly.
Final Thoughts
When Cam Skattebo says he’s ready to get back to running people over, there’s real reason to believe him.
The Giants upgraded the offensive line with Sisi Mauigoa. They added one of football’s premier blocking fullbacks in Patrick Ricard. They brought in Greg Roman to help shape the rushing attack. And they hired John Harbaugh to build a more physical football team.
None of that guarantees success.
But it does create the ideal environment for Skattebo to thrive.
