Mark Haynes: Ranked 78th on Giants’ Top 100 Players List
The New York Giants recently honored Mark Haynes, recognizing his legacy by naming him 78th on their list of the Top 100 Players in franchise history. Haynes, a cornerback, was the eighth overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft and brought immense talent to the team.
A Key Piece in the Giants’ Rebuilding Efforts.
Mark Haynes’ speed and tackling skills set him apart. Drafted between two other legendary Giants—quarterback Phil Simms in 1979 and linebacker Lawrence Taylor in 1981—Haynes played a crucial role in transforming the Giants into contenders.
In 1981, he was named second-team All-Pro and helped the Giants reach the postseason for the first time since 1963. His fumble recovery for a touchdown in the Wild Card round against the Eagles highlighted his importance to the team.
Pro Bowl Success and Career Highlights.
Over the next three seasons, Haynes earned Pro Bowl honors three times and was named first-team All-Pro twice. Although he eventually played in three Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos, Haynes’ Giants career was marked by consistent excellence. He recorded 13 interceptions in 75 games, solidifying his place as one of the franchise’s greats. In 1989, he was named to Colorado’s All-Century team, further cementing his football legacy.
Mark Haynes’ contributions to the Giants are now forever enshrined in team history, a fitting tribute to one of the game’s most talented cornerbacks.
