Pepper Johnson Named 75th On Giants Top 100 Players List
The New York Giants have officially honored Pepper Johnson as one of the top 100 players in franchise history. Johnson, a linebacker known for his fierce hits, was ranked 75th on the prestigious list.
A Legendary Career with the Giants.
Pepper Johnson’s journey with the Giants began when he was selected in the second round of the 1986 NFL Draft. An All-American from Ohio State, Johnson quickly became a key player on a defense that already boasted legends like Lawrence Taylor and Harry Carson. During his rookie season, Johnson played a crucial role in the Giants’ first Super Bowl victory. He grabbed interceptions in back-to-back games, including a dominant 49–3 Divisional Round win over San Francisco.
Filling Big Shoes and Leaving a Mark.
After Harry Carson’s retirement in 1988, Johnson stepped up, becoming a force on the Giants’ defense. In 1990, Johnson earned his first Pro Bowl selection and was named to the All-NFL Team by the Pro Football Writers of America. His performance that year solidified his legacy, especially when he broke Taylor’s franchise record with 4.5 sacks in a single game against the Buccaneers.
