Daniel Jones Struggles: As Frustrations Grow

Daniel Jones struggles deepen with another poor performance at MetLife. Since signing a four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants, Daniel Jones’ performance has been disappointing. Shockingly, Jones has thrown more touchdowns to the opposition than to his own team. He has three pick-sixes compared to only two touchdown passes.

A Troubling Trend.

In his last eight NFL games, Jones’ stats are troubling. He has thrown just two touchdowns while tossing nine interceptions. Additionally, he has fumbled five times and has been responsible for three pick-sixes. These numbers reflect a significant downturn in his performance.

Pressure and Poor Decisions.

On Sunday, Jones faced pressure on 18 dropbacks, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF). Alarmingly, he was responsible for 38.9% of those pressures, the third-highest rate in the NFL. He also took three sacks, the highest of any quarterback.

PFF data shows the offensive line was responsible for 55.6% of those pressures, the second-lowest rate in the NFL. This suggests that Jones is not making the right decisions, even with a clean pocket. His tendency to fixate on one read and throw into double coverage is concerning.

His Worst Game Yet.

This was arguably Jones’ worst game as a professional. It came at a critical moment when he needed to perform and quiet the critics. Unfortunately, his poor showing has only fueled doubts about his ability to lead the Giants.

Brian Daboll took over the playcalling duties to start this season.

Daboll Takes Control.

Head coach Brian Daboll took over the playcalling duties to start this season, aiming to guide Daniel Jones with preferred plays and a tailored style. Known for his playcalling strengths during his time as the Bills’ offensive coordinator, Daboll’s expertise was expected to elevate Jones’ performance. This change is an attempt to help Jones regain his confidence and deliver on his potential.

What’s Next for Jones?

With a retooled offensive line and a new number one wide receiver, the hope was that Jones would improve. However, his recent performances suggest otherwise. If these trends continue, the Giants may need to reassess their commitment to Jones as their franchise quarterback.
