New York Giants Roster Moves: New Signings and Cap Space Update

by Marco Ceo

Giants add to the Defense with New Signings.

The New York Giants made several roster updates, adding to their defense while addressing injury concerns. The team signed linebacker Trey Kiser and defensive tackle Kyler Baugh, adding depth to critical positions.

Trey Kiser, an undrafted free agent (UDFA) previously with the Jacksonville Jaguars, joins the Giants after a strong collegiate career at South Alabama. Kyler Baugh, another 2024 UDFA, comes from the New Orleans Saints. Baugh impressed last season at Minnesota with 3 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss (TFL).

Offensive Line and Cap Space Maneuvering.

While the Giants bolstered their defense, they also had to make some tough decisions. Offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste was placed on injured reserve (IR), and defensive lineman Ryder Anderson was waived. These moves indicate the teamā€™s commitment to maintaining a healthy and competitive roster.

In addition, the Giants made a significant financial move by converting $4.175 million of left tackle Andrew Thomasā€™ base salary into a signing bonus. This restructuring freed up $3.34 million in cap space for the 2024 season, giving the Giants around $18 million in total cap space.

Cap Space Flexibility for Future Moves

Field Yates reports that this financial maneuver provides the Giants with more flexibility. Art Stapleton adds that this isnā€™t necessarily for a free-agent signing but rather to keep their options open for a potential trade. The Giants are in a strong position financially, as they prepare for the upcoming season.

These roster updates and financial adjustments highlight the Giantsā€™ strategy of building a competitive and flexible team, ready for any opportunities that may arise.
