Giants VP of Digital Strategy David Dominik tells Big Blue View about the preparations for the team’s 100th season
When the New York Giants rolled out their 100th-season throwback uniforms, the reaction was mixed.
The uniforms, though, did exactly what the organization set out to do almost three years ago. They honored the beginnings of the franchise.
“We definitely saw the mixed reactions. I think that you’ve got a little bit of a vocal group of people that were certainly negative but I don’t know if that was 100% representative of the entire fanbase,” David Dominik, Giants VP of Digital Strategy, told ‘Valentine’s Views’. “We’ve seen people that love it and people that were disappointed by it.
“I think internally, and we’ve been working on this uniform for over two years with the NFL and going through different development options and the different eras of Giants history, everybody inside the organization, including the players, that saw it really were excited about it.”
Dominik said the design team was aware that the aesthetics of a current uniform are different than one made to honor pre-1950s teams.
“I think that if we were going to design a new uniform from scratch that probably wouldn’t be the direction we would take,” he said. “It would be a more modern take that fit into today’s aesthetics.
“But this was our way of honoring some of these really, really early players that were really gritty and dirty and played this game for no money and no glory. It was just kind of the very beginnings of our franchise.”

Dominik referred to the years worth of work that went into preparing for the 100th season celebration as “a labor of love.”
The Giants will hold several events to celebrate the milestone.
One of those is Thursday night at Madison Square Garden when the Giants will hold ‘A Night With Legends.’
“It’s going to be a special night for everybody,” Dominik said.

This summer, the Giants will begin rolling out their list of the franchise’s top 100 players, a list compiled by a select panel of voters. There will be a series of events around the season-opening game against the Minnesota Vikings, including a Fan Fest at MetLife Stadium the Friday before the game.
“I would just tell everyone just to stay following our social channels and Giants.com to see what other fan engagement activities are going to be coming, not just for that first game but throughout the season,” Dominik said. “A lot of really cool giveaways and game day thematics and things that are going to be coming.”
