Eddie Price: Giants Legend Ranks 98 in Top 100 Players

As a devoted New York Giants fan, it’s thrilling to see Eddie Price ranked 98th on the Giants’ Top 100 Players list. Though he played before my time, his legacy is undeniable. Let’s dive into what made Price a true New York Giants legend.

Early Life and College Success

Eddie Price was born in New Orleans and became a high school football star, earning the nickname “Superman.” After serving in the Navy during World War II, he attended Tulane University. There, he set the SEC rushing record and earned All-America honors. He was a standout in the first Senior Bowl, catching the attention of NFL scouts.

NFL Career and Achievements

The New York Giants selected Eddie Price in the second round of the 1950 NFL Draft. Price wasted no time making an impact. He was the runner-up for Rookie of the Year, setting a franchise record for rushing yards in his debut season. This record stood until Saquon Barkley broke it in 2018. In his second season, Price led the NFL in rushing, with 971 yards on 271 carries, and scored seven touchdowns. This achievement made him the last Giants player to win the NFL rushing title, a record that still stands 73 years later.

Legacy and Honors

Eddie Price was more than just a rusher. He was named All-Pro in 1951 and 1952 and earned three Pro Bowl selections during his career. Price led the Giants in rushing for four of his six seasons. His 5.58 yards per carry in a single season remains the sixth-highest in Giants history. Price also has three of the longest runs from scrimmage in Giants history, with runs of 80, 75, and 74 yards. His college achievements also earned him a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, and the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame.

Eddie Price’s impact on the Giants and football, in general, is undeniable. His ranking as the 98th best player in Giants history is a testament to his enduring legacy. For us Giants fans, remembering and honoring players like Eddie Price is what makes our team’s history so rich and exciting.
