The New York Giants Sign QB Drew Lock to One-Year Deal.
The Giants signed former Seahawks QB Drew Lock to a one-year, $5 million deal. This move fills the void left by Tyrod Taylor, who signed with the Jets. Therefore, Lock joins Daniel Jones and Tommy DeVito in our quarterback room. Additionally, we might still address the QB position in next month’s draft with the No. 6 pick.
Lock spent the last two seasons as Geno Smith’s backup in Seattle. He played well when Smith was injured. For instance, he won a Monday Night Football game against the Eagles. However, he struggled against the 49ers. His experience should benefit the Giants. Lock, a 2019 second-round pick, started his career with Denver. While with the Broncos, he threw 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. Although he faced challenges, his potential is evident.
Lock, on the other hand, completed 63.2% of his passes in 2023. He threw three touchdowns and three interceptions in four relief appearances. Notably, he threw a game-winning touchdown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba against the Eagles. This play ended Seattle’s four-game losing streak.
Lock’s career hasn’t been easy. He battled for the starting job in Seattle but never overtook Smith. Moreover, contracting COVID-19 during 2022 training camp was a setback. Consequently, he missed a crucial preseason game.
