Rakeem “Nacho” Nunez-Roches Joins the Giants with a 3-Year Deal

The New York Giants have made their first move in the 2023 NFL free agency by signing veteran defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches. Known by his nickname “Nacho,” Nunez-Roches brings experience and txoughness to the Giants’ defense. NFL insider Tom Pelissero first reported the signing, and Art Stapleton added that the deal is a three-year contract worth $12 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed.

Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 307 pounds, Nunez-Roches is set to turn 30 during the 2023 season. In 2022, he played all 17 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, starting 10 of them. He recorded a career-high 2.0 sacks, 33 tackles (19 solo), five tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits. His consistent performance on the field shows his ability to be a reliable force on the defensive line.

Originally drafted in the sixth round by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, Nunez-Roches spent three seasons in Kansas City before joining the Buccaneers, where he played for five years. His experience in different defensive schemes and his ability to make plays at crucial moments make him a valuable addition to the Giants’ roster.

With this signing, the Giants are bolstering their defensive line, adding depth and veteran leadership. Nunez-Roches is expected to contribute immediately, helping the Giants strengthen their defense for the upcoming season. Giants fans can look forward to seeing “Nacho” in action, bringing his energy and experience to the field.
