2007 Giants vs. 2008 Giants
How’s this for high round one drama? The team that shocked the world against the team that shot itself in the foot…or leg.
Talk about a weird 1st quarter. 2007 Eli marched right down the field with completions to Shockey, Burress and Toomer, before hitting Brandon Jacobs on a dump off that Jacobs caught and rumbled into the end zone from 8 yards out.
Then 2008 Eli found Kevin Boss three times on his opening drive before Ahmad Bradshaw bolted in from 17 yards out to knot the game up. 7-7 end of 1st.
Lawrence Tynes kicked 2nd quarter field goals for each team and at the half we were knotted up, 10-10.
The 3rd quarter saw offense at a minimum as both defenses stood tall and sent the game to 4th with both teams still tied at 10.
And that’s when things got crazy….2008 Derrick Ward broke off a 37 yard run that lead to a 16 yard TD pass from Eli to Burress.
2007 Eli answered right back leading the 07 Champs on an 4 play 80 yard drive that started with a 61 yard bomb off play action to Domenik Hixon, and ended with Brandon Jacobs blasting his way in the end zone from 2 yards out.
17-17, 6 minutes left. 2008 Giants ball.
08 Eli marches his team across mid-field, 4 minutes left. On a 2nd and 7, Eli hits Plax for a completion; he breaks free at the 30 and gets blasted attempting to cut back against the grain by Kawicka Mitchell, fumble, fumblaya, fumblerooskie…recovered by Corey Webster, 07 ball.
From there the SB MVP, Eli Manning, did what he does best…lead game winning drives. A 3rd down conversion here, a 3rd down conversion there, and with 7 plays, the 07 Giants and Lawrence Tynes were lining up to kick a game winning field goal with 6 seconds left.
The snap, the spot….its long enough, and…its good from 43 yards out.
